Arsenal Will Be The Surprise Of 2012/13

There are many people out there spitting feathers over Arsene Wenger not bringing in some 'super, super quality' players yesterday.

Or any players. I even saw some Gooners so desperate for Arsenal to get someone in they wanted Micheal Owen. Even Emile Heskey's name was bandied about.

While I can understand the frustration brewing there's not a lot we can do about the fact we didn't make any signings.

Don't get me wrong I would have loved Arsenal to have brought some new blood in yesterday. In my opinion, and most other peoples, we look a little short in certain positions.

I look at our current squad and I see a very, very, very, very, very strong starting eleven. Probably stronger than any side we've had in recent years. Possibly even stronger than Jodie Marsh on steroids.

Now whilst I think we have a powerful first-team I worry about what happens if we get injuries or suspensions because I hate to say it but we lack options in certain areas.

Honestly, and this is my Pinocchio honest face because my nose is big enough, I think we will still finish in the top 4.

However I genuinely feel had we pushed the boat out, and made a couple of signings, we would have won the league. We still might, but we will need a lot of luck on the injury front to do so.

I am still optimistic about the season ahead, I always am, but I have to concede that Arsene has taken a big gamble going into this campaign. Possibly the biggest gamble since Paul Merson in 1994.

Maybe if Wenger had just come out a week ago and said we wasn't bringing anyone else in then the furious reaction from some would have been less harsh?

Having said that I'm sure he was looking to bring players in but couldn't find someone suitable. I wouldn't want him to sign someone just for the sake of it.

It's easy to say we should sign, 'A, B or C' but this is real life and not Football Manager. There are many factors when bringing a player in.

The player could be an absolute 'C' Bomb and ruin the dressing room harmony. He might get homesick. Some even want a night light and that would piss his room-mate off on away-day trips.

Of course there are many if's and but's. At the end of the day we have brought in 3 very good players, who once they gel with the rest of the team, will benefit us.

I dare say had we signed only two of them a few months back, like we did, but then added the third yesterday, I doubt people would be as angry.

This time last year many had a pop at Wenger for 'panic-buying' on transfer deadline day. This time round however he is criticised for not bringing players in. Fickle? I don't know.

What I do know is Wenger has taken a chance. We all thought, especially me, that things had changed when we signed Podolski and Giroud early doors. Adding Cazorla to the mix and it looked great.

Then we sold our most influential players of last year and things seem grim again.

Despite this I think we will surprise a lot of people this season.

Nobody expects us to do well. And while I think we will fall short of winning the league we will be in the mix and I genuinely think we will win a trophy. I really do.

But there will be that slight niggle inside that says had we really gone for it we would be top of the pile come May.

Don't think we could have won the league even with a couple of extra signings, but a cup victory was, and still is, on - if Bouldy gets the defence sorted out.

And we have Chelsea's luck.

Yeah a very big gamble our prick of a manager has taken, say again tomorrow 0-0 with 20mins to go who the hell do we bring on to change the game? we have nothing, good starting 11 may be until they start popping to the medical centre, if we lose and chelsea win we are out of title race after 3 games, what a fucking joke this club is, but no dought i'll get the useall go surport city, spuds or mancs shit. wake up wenger and the board are fucking us over!!!! Masive changes are needed.

Where the fuck have you been, Wrighty? Such a breath of fresh air to have you back.

No point in having a triple-bypass over football. Back the team, hope for the best, question the management after the fact.

Can you not see that the club now exists only to make a profit. We've yet again made a transfer profit this window. How can this approach possibly lead to competing for trophies. The deal betweeen Wenger and Kroenke is obvious: In return for making a profit every year, Kroenke gives Wenger £7m and free rein to run the club as he likes. It's staring everyone in the face, the policy is there for all to see. Look at the actions, not the words.

And you think we have a strong starting 11? Who in that team is a proven goalscorer in the Prem Lge?. Where is the DM? Where is the improvement to a defence that conceded nearly 50 goals last season?

If we don't start scoring soon and by that I mean score enough to win and we don't fall too far behind with a heavy September schedule then 4th place is likely. Any other scenario and forget it.

The new Arsenal ownership and management is about money not trophies. In the past 7 years, 17 players who have left Arsenal have collectively won 44 trophies. During that period those who have stayed have won Nothing. This is Wenger's legacy - we better get used to it.

The big surprise will be Walcott will be sold as Arsenal struggle to get out of mid table and by season end will drop out of the cl group. More players will agitate to move.

Yo Jamma,

Been a bit lazy mate!

Wrighty7 said...

Well we've had 2 clean sheets. That's an improvement.

Totally agree with you, mate. Don't know why so many fans have the gloom and doom outlook. To the three signings you've mentioned already, I'd add another two: Wilshere and Diaby. That makes five outstanding signings in total! So number wise, we are good, just short in some positions. Barring no one gets injured (especially in positions where we are lacking cover), this could be the season we end our trophy drought.

Wake up an smell the coffee. Stop making excuses and believing all the crap AW feeds us. It's time for change

two 0-0 draws against stoke/sunderland and you reckon we got a stronger first 11 for years, oh my god wake up will you

I am relatively optimistic but as in the last few seasons our success or otherwise will be dependent on our ability to keep key players of the treatment table. Arsenal have pretty much the worse Injury record in the PL And that is a major concern. While much of this is due to the type of players Arsenal have at their disposal - their physical preparation / training needs to be looked at.

Dazza I have to disagree mate,

This team is a million miles away from winning the league, you only have to compare it with man city to see that. What I don't like is the fact wenger comes out and talks about how ambitious we are and how we are title contenders, you dont flog your best players every year for a profit if your ambitious. I would rather hear the truth which is we are a club that want to finish top 4 and anything more is a bonus, because that is the truth of it. It will be interesting to see what happens the day we dont even achieve 4th.

I think our first 11 would match any other in this league.

Our problem is when we get injuries then we will suffer.

True, that should have rectified but I think we will be in the top four.

Of course we want to be winning titles and I feel had we pushed the boat out then we would have done this year.

Shame but I think we will surprise people either way.

Time for change, Wenger manages the club like a senile old man who is stuck in rut moaning about other clubs spending.
He no longer has the will to compete and win trophies but drone on how much money we make and how well this loser of a club is run.

Wrighty where ya been.Love your optimism mate but even you must agree the club has done us like a load of kippers

I am always amazed at such strong opinions from 'anonymous'. Do not have courage of their convictions. My feeling is that Dembele particularly or even Dempsey would have added something... and would have blocked spurs also... but proof of policy will be at end of the season.

Arsenal will not win anythng but will surprise a few people....

Says a hell of a lot for what the scumbag American and his French stooge have done to the club.

For the record, Arsenal are one of the clubs who should not be surprising anyone, even if they win the Permiership.

Nothigng else is good enough

I like your spirit Wrighty but the point is with the new players and Van Persie and Song we would have had a genuine chance of winning the title. I'm not saying that they shouldn't have gone, but not to replace them with at the very least one player just means we're gonna be scrapping for 4th as usual, just another sideways step. The club should have shown some ambition, instead they just went for the money as usual. Nice for them, not so sweet for the rest of us that dream of seeing us win major honours again. Still, we plod on and hope for the best... always like your blogs tho, proper gooner.

The club have succeeded in adjusting fans expectations. Top 4 is all anyone is hoping for and rightly so. This team has no shot at the title... Maybe an outside chance at one of the Mickey mouse cups. Take a look at kroenkes US teams and you will see they also lack team investment. I suppose we should be grateful we are somewhat competitive...... Wenger at least deserves some credit for that

Am I missing something here? Are we basing our hopes on Jack Wilshere, who is still out with injury. How do we know he will be the same player? How do we know whether he will need a couple of months to regain his sharpness. By reckoning one of or all of Arteta, Diaby and Wilshere will at some point be injured during the season.
We were told by some Arsenal fans that Song is not good enough but he is now playing for Barcelona and true to form Arsene has sold him without replacing him.
Athletic Madrid sold AGUERO for around £38 million pounds and used all the money to buy Falcao and Falcao has helped Athletic Madrid to win the UEFA cup and the UEFA super cup in his first two seasons. That is how to run a football club for the fans.

Seriously can people stop with the 'getting injured players back is like a new signing' - that's one of the biggest lies in football. It's not a new signing - it's an injured player returning. FFS!

IMO as per usual we'll be odds on for a spot in the top 4 but....SO WHAT!!!!

Every year we hear how it's vtal to qualify for the CL in order to retain our best players...loool

We hear it is vital to qualify for CL in order to have the financial strength to improve the squad and make serious run at the PL.

None of the above has taken place recently. Even if we end up in the CL proper next season it's hardly something that will change the status quo.

Great post. I'm sick of people who say sack Wenger! People forget that when he took over we were struggling to make top six let alone top four. If we got rid of him then we would be in trouble. That's the difference between a football fan and a football supporter. And you my friend like myself are a football supporter. We have signed three fantastic players who I believe will do very well this season.

The sooner people realise we are supporting a business first and a sporting club second, the easier it will be to anticipate and accept the actions of the club. As frustrating as it is, Id rather be where we are than a pot of money club, that's even more soulless. The game as we knew it has gone until financial fair play is enforced. Shame. I dislike the blatant spin the club dishes out but imagine how the blind hope and spirit would diminish if they were honest. Chin up gooners, we'll win tomorrow

arsenal have turned into a joke they could have had a strong season keeping the players we sold its like banging your head against a wall why the fuk does this happen every year how much money do they need to take from the club arrrggghh

Lowey said...

If we get 2 injuries in def and mid, we run the gauntlet of having squillachi and arshavin in the strarting lineup. Absolute bad management not replacing song who was very influential last year.

If you look at the table after 2 games and believe all the hype !! then why do people still support Arsenal !! Coz we have the best Manager in the world of football, we play great football !! we are always the outsidersbut that is what we have gotten use to other the years... We were challenging liverpool in the eighties youth mainly youth players and beat the best side in Europe in their own back yard. Then the nineties came we challenged utd every year and won theleague in their back yard. I think we have the same chance as every year !! a good chance !! if you think we are out of it after 2 games draws at tht then you dont know much about football !! Win at Anfield will show the league nothing this early into the season but it will give us 3 points !! We have a good squad of 25 this year !! Key players Koscielny Arteta Walcott Giourd and i believe podolski will be amazing !! Gibbs looks like the best left back in the country !! and jenkinson isnt doing himself any harm !! carzola looks the biz and Diaby getting better with every game !! needs to release it earlier though but good signs !! Wilshere is the KING of all KING PINS !! cant wait to have on the feild of play !!

Anonymous said...

Backs against the wall.Every man and his dog against us ,just how we like it !!
Like The Great Rocky Marciano knocked down every fight but still won !!
New season anything can happen !!

Arsenal without Wilshere are like Utd without Scholes !!

This blogger is a fucking coward and always has been. He hasn't got the balls to be an anti-Wenger blog so he just spurts inane shit all the time.

Arsenal win the league - hahaha, What fucking planet are you on? We were 20 pts off last season and we just sold a player who scored 40% of our goals and our only DM. Podolski and Giroud are average - I'd be surprised if they got 10 goals each.

Anonymous said...

Support the club and stop being so negative

Anonymous said...

You should all spout you negative shit at the end of the season. Up the Gunners EIE!!

Anonymous said...

Well said marky, manshitty and Russian mafia will never be respected by opposition fans the way we are as we do it the right way which is the Arsenal way

Anonymous said...

Coward says the anonymous cardboard cunt. Don't come on here and attack the bloke for having an opinion. You don't have to read the blog if you think its shit and if you do then why feel the need to get angry at wrighty cause your not happy with how the clubs being run, perhaps you could vent your anger by writing am e-mail and sending it to the club so they can all have a good laugh at you. You can't be over 15 with all that pent up anger and if you are theres a wonderful bridge you can jump off about 2 miles up the road from the emirates

are you still supporting this another one of your ridiculous statement?
