Manchester United will get a reality check, just like Arsenal did

It appears that most people believe that Manchester United are set to sweep up every trophy in sight and dominate world football, crushing anyone who gets in their way.

I have to admit, it's easy to get caught up in the frenzy and start believing but the truth is reality is far different from fantasy and Manchester United could find that out.

Remember the season 2003/04? Of course you do. That was the season Arsenal went through the entire Premiership campaign without a single defeat.

Back then people were saying the same things about Arsenal as they saying about Manchester United now.

Arsenal were going to win everything in sight and nobody could stop them. Fate didn't follow suit. Within a few days we suffered a double blow when losing to Manchester United in the FA Cup and Chelsea in the Champions League.

Football is unpredictable and that's why I won't get caught up in all the talk that Manchester United will win the lot. I'm sure the Manchester United players and Ferguson won't either.

If you listen to the media then the season may as well end now and lets just hand the trophies to Manchester United. I don't listen to the media and happen to believe that Arsenal will ruin the party and win the Champions League and the FA Cup.

People will call me an optimist and not a realist but why? I'm realistic enough to know that Arsenal, on their day, like Manchester United and Chelsea have found out, can match and beat the best.

At present the season couldn't be going better for Manchester United on all fronts. On the other hand, Arsenal have had a bad Premiership season even if we do make fourth place but we are genuine contenders in the cup competitions.

Manchester United deserve a lot of praise but I think winning everything is beyond them or anybody. They will win the Premiership, they have the Carling Cup but I think Arsenal will share the spoils and give everybody a reality check.

Keep it Goonerish...............

  2. Arsenal will win the Premiership and the Champions League?

Now that is optimism of the highest order !!

I wouldn't even say United will do that and I'm an avid fan of theirs as you may have noticed.

Check out the teams left in the CL, Arsenal have had a couple of good results of late and Eduardo has returned but that is not cause to make predictions as bold as yours Mr Wrighty.

You could be wright, but I hope your wrong and we win everything ;)

  5. Yeah good point about not getting carried away with man u winning eveything.

    it will be very difficult

But i feel united have more chance in the fa cup and champs league then arsenal, purely on the strength on there squad.

dont quite feel arsenal are close to that yet

  6. Hi Wrighty..
Remember the other year when the dippers won those 5 cups all the scummers were saying there not proper cups like Man u's treble..

The Scummers seem to be counting them this year though, the charity shield and the world super dooper cup..
It's a wonder they don't enter the boat race or stick Ryan Giggs in the Masters to se if they can bluff some more trophies..

  9. Lets be honest gooners, Arsenla never have and never will have the same backbone taht Man U have. We were never going to win all 3 back in 2004, its just not in our nature. We dont win finals we lose them (i know we have actually won finals beofre but just think back to all the finals weve been in) Man U on the other hand have the bottle to cross the finish line, Arsenal never had this even in 2004. Trust me it hurts to admit it but its true, Wenger is a runner up and Fergie is a winner.

  12. From a Manchester United fans perspective I understand where you are coming from.

I believe it comes down to mental strength and that's something Arsenal always lacked but United have had in abundance.

  18. Let's see. Man u have been winning all their games in the epl since the loss to Arsenal. Trust me when I say they are due to drop points soon. As someone mention the law of averages /probability.You can't be fit 365 days a year.
Mark my words. They could be kicked out of cl with a score draw by Inter. Mourino is not a fool and knows the epl inside out.

  19. Fergie is a cheque book manager.. Wait until the Man U cheque book does a Barnes Wallace.. lol

  20. hey guys! am I the only one who doesn't believe that Man. Utd. kan win all trophies this season?? I mean, din't they have to win the Super Cup agains Zenit last year??
    Cheers!

  21. Hi Wrighty, I hope you are right about the Mancscummers. If we are counting micky mouse trophys (World club trophy/Charity shield or whatever its now called) then lets include the Emirates cup and Amsterdam tournament. Our trophy cabinet is not so bare as most think now is it and even betters the Spuds/Mancscum reserve team trophy wins of the past couple seasons. I hate Moaninho but lets see him put those arrogant arsewipes out tomorrow. Remember they don't get as many homer refs in Europe. El Tel

  22. We have the toughest 2nd leg, not because Roma will be better than us as they clearly are not but it is in their own back yard and where the Final will be played. They need the support from Eufa, especially following the problems the Roman ultras are giving them. Lets hope the world is fair and we don't get mugged again. If they are better than us then fine but getting cheated stinks.

  23. Hi El Tel,

I can't wait for the first 'proper' trophy to arrive at the Emirates mate!

I believe once one arrives, more will follow suit!

    ReplyDelete
  24. mickey mouse trophies huh?! as opposed to the two small things we won the end of last season? Barca was probably a fluke and if we win it this year, it's gonna be sheer dumb luck again!!.... Let's get a European cup on that cabinet of yours then we can have a educated discussion!

  26. Elvido,

How could I have an educated discussion with one of your mob? ;)

  27. Fergie the check book manager, bail outs by referees, disproportional claim to fame, sounds like ManU all right.

Wenger mentioned the blood boiling attitude of C.Ronaldo on the pitch this week. I am wondering if AW was not trying to explain that Ronaldo is the desired product of ManU's methods.

If so, I agree. And there will be a day that it will all go down the drain for them.

Isn't it ironic that most of their valued top players left the club banging the exit door.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Well Wrighty, our 'mob' usually start by stringing alphabets together, thus forming words and sentences, you do know what those are don't you? after your mention about trophies filling up cabinets, i thought we should start from scratch! As far as buying our way through goes, your market strategy hasn't exactly clicked huh? While losing Flamini was the one thing that could have given Villa a chance this year, let's see how long the maestro Cesc stays at the Emirates. You guys keep planning for the future on strings, the rest of the world are putting wardrobes together!!!

  29. I hope Jose continues his good record against Fergie and nicks a goal or two at Old Trafford. If Ibra steps up to one game in his life, it should be this one. I also don't see why Arsenal cannot win the FA Cup. We've beaten United more times than any other club in the Prem by the way and FA Cup finals are not a new concept to us. Even when we were supposedly going down the drain we thumped the Mancs 2-1 with Da silva getting somewhat of a consolation goal in injury time. We have one of the better records against the top four, not just this season but the last one as well.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Thanks for the guide of forming sentences Elvido!

I would imagine that Cesc will remain at Arsenal longer than Ronaldo stays with you.

Does Ronaldo love Madrid or Manchester at the moment?

    ReplyDelete
  31. agree with anon 15:41 ronaldo is the product of man usa'a policies..arrogant and hyped..ppl used to say he's a one trick pony..i believe he still is.. his tricks have nothing to do with his goals thyre two different aspects of his game..he got his goals playing as cf with both tevez and rooney playing behind him..he's not a team player at all..the only reason he even dives is coz he gets to take the freekick and hes a fairy..well got that out of my system..the media are as usual jumping to conclusions..there's not much difference b/w man u and chelsea apart from history at the moment..both are in serious debt and need to win major trophies each year the keep their spending habits going..as we know this is not possible..man u will start losing and realise the meaning of smart spending which they mock us for..their last recognised academy products are pushing thirties..Id like to see fergie build a team with actual budget constraints

  32. Agree with the fact the red faced/nosed is a check book manager.I know his track record is second to none. So if he were brave enuf to take the challenge at say Stoke/wigan/blackburn etc I can bet you his performance is not much better than the current managers.

  35. Chelsea lack width and have a lot of old heads in the squad, Liverpool have problems with full-backs have only one good striker, Villa have a squad which consists of 15 people while Arsenal are covered in every position with quality players and we have the right balance of youth/experience. Almunia has stepped up and is one of the best keepers in the league, two experienced CBs with a promising youngster as cover, fullbacks are some of the best in the league with decent cover for both of them. We have wingers coming out of our arse, most of which can play down the middle and upfront. Centre midfield we have two youngsters who are currently doing a good job and Cesc who is a lot maturer for his age. The only thing we are missing is an experienced DM. Most of our so-called youngsters are now coming of age (RVP, Ade, Eboue, Clichy) while we have added to experienced players to the ranks in Silvestre and Arshavin. If we get in one player this summer (Veloso anyone?) and keep our current squad, then we WILL seriously challenge for the title next season. Arsene is nearly finished his project and soon it will be time to reap the rewards.
