Phil Jagielka?!

On a serious level can you really see Arsene Wenger bidding £18 million for Everton's Phil Jagielka?

I don't mean to sound disrepectful but in my opinion Jagielka is not even worth £10 million let alone £18 million.

The money that clubs expect for English players these days is out of control. It's little wonder most shop abroad.

I don't doubt that Phil Jagielka is a good player (not great) but he has just spent the best part of a year injured and not only that, hasn't ever played at the highest level.

Yes, I know he has played for England but the Champions League is the top level in football, not international football.

For around £8-9 million I'd say he might be worth a punt. Not for anymore than that though.

I don't want to offend but I think that some Gooners in recent seasons have been getting a little desperate for signings.

I suppose who can blame us really? Wenger rarely makes 'exciting' signings so we seem to get a little flustered when linked with players.

I do too.

Of course it's nice to be linked with big signings but for me Phil Jagielka, at £18 million, is crazy.

Just because we are in the market for a centre-back it doesn't mean that we will bid silly money like the amount I'm seeing.

I don't believe that Wenger will bid £18 million for the Everton defender. No way.

In fact, I don't see Arsene Wenger bidding £18 million for any defender. Ever.

Keep it Goonerish..........

  4. don't disagree but 10m for the french guy who isn't an international and played only one year in ligue 1 also seems very steep!!!!

  5. No way Wenger would pay that. But he needs to buy a quality centre back. FAST!

Glad Joe cole isn't coming. So much for wanting Champs Lge football, eh coley! Another CashleyCow.

The whisper I heard was Chesney has been told he's the No.2 behind Fabianski but would become No.1 if ol' floppy makes a major gaffe. Soundls like Chesney will be at out 1st home game then!

  7. well said the Jag aint worth 18m and there is another english CB that would be a better buy....Steven Taylor

  8. I Doubt Wenger will spend 18mil on big old phil and i hope he doesnt, id rather see him spend 18mil on a vidic type centre back but would never happen.

  9. I would rather have Gus Ceasar then Phil Jagielka

  10. evertonians are comparing with joleon(who flopped)lescott and suggest jag is better so shld go fr no less than 24mln. i say to them and any gooners that being good, even very good in the top 8 is not enough for a CL team fighting to win the league. Hence we have players like SWP, scott parker, lescott who seemingly all had what it takes but have proved enadequate. jags is simply unproven at the top level and £10mln at most is enough. no more.

  12. Phil Jagielka? £18 million? Oh, please...

  13. I actually think we should buy Gary Cahill over any other centre back in the premiership and the verminator would do be just fine.

  14. im glad cole isn't coming would rather give wilshere a go to add fuck all, don't want jagielka he's not worth it ,is there anybody that you cunts actually want to sign or are you just happy with shit signings like chamakh and kocsielny to wank over.

wenger and his lack of ambition has really fucked with your minds, wake up cunts.

  15. b.b.k you seem a bit confused. you are the yid and the cunt not us.

  16. I agree...18 million is well steep but I agree with dan. 10 million on someone who has only played 1 year in ligue 1 is ridiculous. Would've much prefered Jagielka over Koscielny

  17. Phil Jagielka, an ex Sheffield United hoofer who got lucky and moved to Everton for £4million quid is now touted as being a "target" for The Mighty Arsenal for the ridiculous sum of £18million. He is 28, crocked, not as good as his agent makes out and unless he is replacing Almunia in goal, I cannot see the point of buying him. I think the figures are being confused and Wenger might consider this over rated lump for the princely sum of 18 quid. I am from the days that remember Ian Ure, Jeff Blockley, Willie Young, Stepanovs, Cygan and all. Not another useless centre half Wenger, please. Jaygooner

  19. I kind of agree with b.b.k I don't want wenger sacked but he has to be the most stubborn manager ever we won't win
the league with this team and with man city spending and the spuds n liverpool breathing down are necks we will struggle to get top 4 unless he stops been stubborn and signs experienced players!!!cmon arsene spend some money n before someone replys with a message sayin we don't want to go bankrupt like the rest of the league am taking bout spending maybe 30 million on 2 or 3 class players

  20. b.b.k? obviously stands for bloody boring kunt. I don't normally rise to the antics of yids trying to trash The Mighty Arsenal forums, but I will make an exception in your pathetic case. b.b.k you need help mate, you really do. Type "pathetic losing team that always finishes below Arsenal" into your browser. That will make you feel right at at home. OOOH TO BE A GOONER Jaygooner

  22. Although short at just 5'11, Jagielka is a solid defender. Doesn't seem to have a particular dominant area to his game, but is an all-around-er. But for the transfer fees being mentioned here, would think it better to buy a player with a potential re-sale value like Gary Cahill (24), Steven Taylor (24) or even, Rodwell (19). (If Rodwell, then Sol would need to be around as a player-coach to ease a transition from midfield into central defense).

At the end of his potential 4 year contract Jags would be 32 years old and likely leave on a free.

this is your statement that has me fuming sonny
    "wengers finished,sack him now."
You stupid prick bbk, you cannot see that The Mighty Arsenal are on the verge of greatness? If you are a Gooner, say so, otherwise piss off 'cos your negative crap makes no sense unless you are a spud. Jaygooner

  30. bbk is a sad little brainless gimp who hangs around le grove coz he aint got any friends.

His slagging off of Arsnela players BEFORE they have even played a game for the club shows his ignorance and the fact he calls other gooners, jews, is just fucking offensive, but what do you expect from a sad armchair glory hunting inadequate tool? And as for the anonymous bbk calling wenger a frogie twatch???? Oh dear, pathetic

  31. BBK is one of the anti-Arsenal cunts from Le Groan. Doesn't feel too good to be among real gunners, eh? Time to crawl back there and have your fun calling Wenger a pedophile and worse every other comment.

    Pure trash.

  32. Not sure the Arse will pay out 18 mil
for him, but he's a useful player and
not a bad keeper as well, so he'd be a Wenger two for one special!!

    ReplyDelete
  33. BBK, does your mum know that you're on her computer?

    ReplyDelete
  34. Jaygooner, you're about as ill-informed as they come.

Whilst at Sheffield United, Jagielka, having spent some formative time in midfield, was confortable as a ball playing defender, pacy and athletic, he had a very good season in the top flight - a clogger he is not, you are simply stereo-typing through ignorance. Everton signed him and he has flourished there. He is not a crock - he had one bad injury. Prior to that, he pretty much played for three years for SUFC without missing a single game.

Whilst the fees for English players are inflated, may I remind you that Wenger has just paid about 8m for a player who was plying his trade in the French first division who most people have never heard of. At 24 he's had plenty of time to get a big move.

He would be a good, sensible signing for you. The only mystifying point is why you did not sign him when we were relegated. He will end up with you or Man U.

18m may seem steep, but you can thank the likes of Chelsea and City for that!

    Champagneblade

    ReplyDelete
  35. I'd be amazed if we paid it, BUT he might be worth it; sometimes you have to pay over the odds for something that everyone knows you need and you cannot find anywhere else.

He is probably as good as Verm, gets forwrad, distributes well AND takes a decent free kick; he will not have a 'settling in' period as he knows precisely what to expect (in the EPL at least; maybe in the CL, but I wouldn't imagine that the early rounds would pose a prblem).

Personally, i would love it if we signed him, and (especially as its not actually my money; and for years, the club have never spent their money as if it WAS mine!) I reckon anything under £18m is worthwhile. I wouldnt pay more, but hell, if we could get him for £20m and it meant we had the full compliment of CBs, I'd prefer to pay it and have him than not pay it ad have nobody......

  36. fellas no need to get anti-semitic over there. i am a jew and have loved and supported arsenal all of my life. Just because the cunts down the road have been characterised as jews doesnt mean we have to condemn our own gooners.
    *in wenger we trust*

    ReplyDelete
  37. Yeah fuck you BBK fk off somewhere else

    ReplyDelete
  38. i agree. 18 million on an average defender is outrageous. taylor would cost half that, hes just as average as jagielka but 4 years younger. wenger should look at micah richards. city would probably let him go for about 10 million, under wenger he could become great. plus he is actually a gooner too.

    ReplyDelete
  39. in a way i agree with bbk i dnt think wenger should go but he said we would fix our defence b4 the world cup and 1 avrg sighning later and we are going to struggle to make the 4.. now with the austria tour when is this going to happen? we want them in know and getting used to playing together sighn a KEEPER and CB now ffs!!!! frm dylan arsenalinAUS

    ReplyDelete
  40. I am with you b.b.k. Fans like Jaygooner are deluded cunts.

    ReplyDelete
  41. KOSCIELNY DIDN'T COME FOR £10 MILL FFS! HE CAME FOR SOMETHING CLOSER TO £4 MILL! SO SHUT THE F**K UP :D Are english players overpriced? well duh! Don't think Jags is twice as good as Verm!

    ReplyDelete
  42. Per mertesacker(germany), joris matjisen(holland), chiedllini (italy) and bruno alves(portugal) are worth 20m. and a midfielder like fellaini (everton), mesut ozil(werder bremen) or attackers like balotelli (inter)luis fabiano(brazil), agbonlahor(aston villa), and a goalkeeper like handanovic(udinese), manuel nauer(germany), benaglio (switserland). eduardo (portugal) !?

    ReplyDelete
  43. Would love to see micah richards here!! He's a gooner good in the air strong!! Perfect!!

But wenger has been takin liberties, he always lies and says we'll sign this and that b4 this time and always has us waiting loggin on to blogs until the last minutes!! Then says there weren't no-one out there better than what we have! Or buying someone will kill the development of a youngster!

He needs to start being straight with the fans or yeah he can go!! Especially if hew doesn't win anything this season!!

    ReplyDelete
  44. I'd be fine starting the season with verm, djourou, kos, and havard if we can keep campbell. otherwise i don't see how we can go without signing at least one more cb. i don't really care about price since we have the money.

most important imo is the need to get rid of almunia. if we don't sign another keeper i'd rather give the job to fabianski, mannone, or chesney full time to see if they can make a go of it.

    ReplyDelete
  45. b.b.k is right, wenger is finished, he's taken the club as far as he can the reason why is h he refuses to buy world class players yet we are the third richest club in the world, he still doesn't sew we need a revamp for the medical facilities (as every year why do all our players get injured badly and they aere out for months) also he is not a good tactician and doesn't care about the domestic cups, even though we need more trophies,
if he was to spend big and win trophies i'd like him to say, however the way he is going he has got to go

    ReplyDelete
  46. Kocielny doesnt look good enough ... yet, 8m all upfront.
Jagielka would be agood signing. keeping Cambell would be a bonus but he wants 2 years at 60k, thats where AW's principles let him down. that being said Dhjorrou looks fine. Strong and quick and tall.We havent seen the best of him. Emmanuel Thomas looks ready and capable as does Wiltshere. Just becasue they arent a household name doesn't mean they aren't special. Goally worries me.seem like he is going to take a punt on Ches, he could turn out to be the Alex Manninger.
    above all have faith you
    miserable cunts!
    up the gunners

  47. when has arsene ever signed experience? the unbeatable team were a bunch of unknowns that were groomed to greatness, they just happened to be very tall, strong and athletic as well as gifted footballers. experience was not needed last season to win the title, there were stupid school boy errors that have been made in every arsenal team, even in the days of tony adam etc, 04-05 season when we finished second it was due to a lack of concentration at times, this is where the problem lies. real madrid have team full of experience as does ac milan and yet they r fallin behind. arsenal can win the title they just need to stay focused on wht it is they are playing for. oh btw fuck jagielka
