Patrick Vieira? A perfect move for Arsenal AND Alex Song

Recently many HP Sauces, I mean 'sources', have revealed that a return to Arsenal could be on the cards for Patrick Vieira.

If this was indeed the case, I would welcome it more than a naked Rihanna fetching me a Chinese meal consisting of sweet and sour pork hong-kong style, BBQ spare Ribs, special fried rice, and a bottle of Peroni whilst jumping up and down singing 'Vieeeeeeeira, woooooooah'

That would be nice indeed!

I reckon, and this is scientifically proven, that Vieira coming back to Arsenal would perfect for Arsenal, my ego, and Alex Song. In the past Arsene Wenger has refused to sign players because he believes in this squad and the new player could interrupt the progression of some of his young stars. Well Vieira could be an exception.

Vieira knows the Arsenal way, and more importantly, the Wenger-way. His long legs may not be the force they once were but the old brain stills knows what it is doing.

The new 4-3-3 formation would suit Vieira more than Cristiano Ronaldo in a room full of mirrors. He could sit in front of the back-four all day long, winning the ball and distributing it on more ways than one.

He would provide more experience than that Granny brass who Wayne Rooney shagged and that is more experience than you could imagine. More importantly, he has winning experience. He knows how to do it in the business end of the season. From January onwards we will need that when chasing the title.

Alex Song will be away for a holiday to Africa for about six weeks in January. Looking through the squad who else can do that holding role? Senderos? The move for Vieira makes even more sense.

When Song returns from holiday with Vieira in the squad he will have one of the best players in the world to listen and learn from who plays in his role. I mean really, what other defensive midfielder can Song learn from in the Arsenal squad? Some 12 year old from Austria?

I'd love it if Vieira came back. It would give everyone at the Arsenal a huge lift. We are flying high at the moment, could we get any higher? With Vieira and the title we could.

Keep it Goonerish...........

I heard on Sunday at the game: its happening = January! No one really knows but they were talking at Sundays game as if it was a done deal. He is defo not going to Chelsea though as they can't sign anyone.

Agreed, Viera would be a good addition to the sqaud, especially since the central (defensive) midfield area seems to be a weak spot at the moment. Admittedly, he is not the same player he was in 2004, but if it is a case of not buying anyone in january, (as the case may be)or bringing in Pat, I think most gooners would go for the later option.

the answer is denilson

peckish much wrighty mate? Haha that menu has made me hungry as well. I frickin love Chinese too!

Yes for Vieira! Plus there is the aerial advantage for setplays at either end that he provides for.

Will it happen? I'm not sure. I hope it does. 50,000+ willing a player to success, not many go wrong from there!

i really wish he would sign. I think the Rihanna comparison though was a little too close to call.

But Song has never been a replacement for Vieira, Fabregas replaced him. Vieira was no def midfielder for arsenal, Gilberto used to play that role while Vieira used to move forward as Fabregas does now. Why do we now want Vieira to come play Song's role? I am a Vieira fan though, and i want him back, just dont know if i want him as our holding man now when he did play that role during his stay at arsenal.

I'm afraid Veira will find the epl too fast .The italian lrsgue in contrast is two to three tads slower. Moreover his legs might not last 90 min due to the high intensity of the English game.
Maybe AW will bring him on as sub for impact value.

mate u aint funny. stick to arsenal or fuk off

i think vieira will be a good signing as a touch of legendary and experience can only be a good thing but like arsene said there is no news so lets wait and see the stuff about vieira going to chelsea is rubbish similar to the comments that he was gonna go to tottenham, like bergkamp, henry, adams, winterburn, gilberto, they all have the same ARSENAL DNA in their body and to be honest i think we should just bring them legends all back and merge them into our directors board similar to what real madrid have done moving their legendary players to the directors board then that way the legends will be very close to the team and the manager and everyone can receive support from every angle.

ANYWAY ARSENE KNOWS LIKE ALWAYS, IN ARSENE WE TRUST,

love your comment by the way: "The new 4-3-3 formation would suit Vieira more than Cristiano Ronaldo". loooooooool

NO NEED>> by jan we willbe a good few points clear at the top, and I also trust the squad to have enuff depth while waiting for song and eboue.

What about denilson!!!!!?

i'd love him to return and agree with you entirely. for all the talk of diaby being viera's nearest successor, it is song who holds all the answers.he is strong on the ball, wins tackles, tracks back, makes good decisions, doesn't lose the ball easily, is dogged in the tackle, has a very sharp and clinical pass which rarely miss or is under/over-hit and has the ability to drop his should and skin a player or two before giving it simple. song is our new viera and even if just for him alone, he could learn so much from the real viera it would be invaluable. in tough games towards the end of the season we could even play song and viera at the same time (instead of denilson) to provide an extra tough shield for our defense and some extra height. i think denilson would learn loads too from viera although i think style-wise he's far more like gilberto.

it's funny to think that all along wenger seems to have been grooming song and denilson to be almost like for like replacements for the viera/gilberto partnership. both are not there yet (though song is really looking the business these days). denilson always seems to split opinion and whilst at the moment i'm not his biggest fan, i really believe he's going to become a major player over the coming years as he gets better. what better way to help him learn than bring back viera. it seems an awfully big ask to get such young cms to master their trade without a veteran there to show them the way. whether it's sooner or later though, i think both are going to be wolrd class

Viera return is totally welcome.. im all for it..and wrighty no matter what the others say.. i like the numerous analogies in your post..with song going away, viera would be the perfect replacement.. and no denilson would not fill songs boot better than viera !!

Appiah, at 28, for free, would've been a better option if such measures were needed. We have players to cover. Coquelin is eager to play, I hope he can appear soon.

Frichie said...

Coquelin is class, but u would have the same problem as Denilson last year, the moment he started to struggle or had a bad game everyone would jump on him, defo one for the future. Vieira back, definitely, he wouldnt be starting many games, but just look at the impact, Giggs and Scholes still have on united. I would actually like to see Denilson in Songs position in the 4-3-, dont get me wrong I love Song in that position, but Denilson is much more mobile and with the extra space i think we could see him come alive...he is a brazilian after all.

BTW I thought this post was hysterical, great one for a friday and boring international break

Hahaha CR in a room full of mirrors.

Don't know if any mirror can cope with that. So much ego, think they spontaneously start to melt or burst into flames. Ungrateful prick.

About Paddy. Would be nice to see some old glory teach the youngsters they are worthy of a grand prix.

Our problem has always been the fact we don't like players as CR. So that means talent and team cohesion has to fill the gaps that ego leaves behind when it is not welcomed.

Why cant people accept that Wenger didnt replace Vieira. Song aint Vieira and neither is Fabregas, their both great players (the latter greater). These three players are very different, we can all agree it would be nice to have a three man midfield that contained these players. It doesnt get any better than that. IMO

can't we all just view song as song and fab as fab and denilson as denilson? the invincibles are long gone... it's time to move forward... i'd be happy to watch this current team succeed... but viera as mentor is not bad an idea... all depends on le boss tho...

Anonymous said...

Vieira's arrival would be a good short term solution for this season only but that still isn't the answer for long term success. What is his attitude going to be like next season, if he is around, when Wenger plays the young lads. Would he accept such a mentor's role? Maybe. The young lads in the reserve team like Frimpong, Coqulein, and Eastmond are way too tactically naive to play at this level but they all look very promising. Look at Song he is 21 and is still caught out of position far too many times per game, ultimately exposing our back four to counter attacks. I think we were reminded of his lack of defensive discipline at Man City and most recently with Blackburn. The back four and the front four compensate for our weak center midfield area but it doesn't always work. If another player is brought in during the transfer window it should be for the long term, someone like Sissoko (at Toulouse not the ex scouse), or Matuidi( who we heard way too much about over the summer) or a classic Wenger rough gem find. Regardless of the African Cup of Nations, if Song is suspended or injured, we are still left with a void, might as well provide competition to raise everyone's game.

E9 Gunner said...

I dont think its Song that is caught out of position exposing the back four. Back four! More like back two, its the full backs that keep exposing us. Watching closely.

My two pennies worth.

And the one about rooney was awesome too!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA [:D]

Totally want Vieira back!!

yea... perhaps... maybe le boss should have signed lee cattermole during the transfer window? but let's put in faith for this team... they are better than any of the teams in the PL now... they just need to cut down on the mistakes...

definitely a masterstroke if arsene can pull it off...

• a cover for song during ACN
• a competition for song after ACN

that way it would not 'KILL' song (like arsene says) and will give us a huge morale boost...

get PV4!!

I would love it to happen , but it is a red hering to deflect from Wengers real January target who ever that might be

I'd be stunned if Paddy came back... Arsene never looks backwards...

If he could ever stay healthy, I'd nominate Djourou as Song's backup.

I seem to remember that he played the DM role if a handful of games a few years back and wasn't too terribly bad at it.

There's also the interesting (although it does scare me in no small way) idea of putting Vermaelen in the DM role and trying Senderos, Sylvestre or Djourou next to Gallas.

Get him anyways. He is Wenger's lucky mascot. we have never won anything since he left. so it's tym 4 the prodigal son 2 return....

A few too many "more than" jokes. They're getting tired now. (Other than that, I still like your blog.)

That said, I think Vieira coming back could be good thing if "expectations" are made clear with the team. E.g. Fab needs to know that he is still captain and Pat is only there as short term cover and to help the team develop.

I presume that Pat also wants to show that he still has it. Especially with the World Cup looming.

cut the jokes off, and your blog will be great.

Did you hear about Patrick Vieira's shock move to Manchester City went through even though he failed a medical at one of the Manchester city hotels. The French veteran had to accept a six-month contract, with an extra year if he stays injury-free, as City boss Roberto Mancini struggled to complete the deal. City put former Arsenal star Vieira through extensive checks and were concerned about a calf problem, which forced him to Saturday's defeat at Everton. At one stage Vieira's move from Inter Milan looked like being called off and City even looked at alternative short-term signings. I hope the powers at be know what they are doing. I know they are loaded wish cash but these gambles rarely pay off.
