The Gooners Who Went To The Britannia Stadium Deserve Their Money Back

I'm annoyed with that performance today but if I was one of those Gooners who went to the Britannia Stadium I would be very, very, very, very pissed off.

I know players can have an off-day, they are only human after all.

But when there appears to be no effort whatsoever then that is taking liberties.

I can accept defeat if the players have given their all but some of those lot today wouldn't have even needed a shower after that game.

You would never have believed that there was an outside chance of still winning the title would you?

I concede that chance was very small. Smaller than an ants dinner but there was still a chance.

Yet what sort of performance do we get? It was the most diabolical shambles of shit I've seen in a long time.

I can count on one hand the amount of players who grafted and tried today. Szczęsny, Sagna, Wilshere and van Persie.

The others were strolling around the pitch like my Nan on an OAP's day out in Brighton.

Do the players not think about the fans who travelled for miles and miles to see a disinterested pile of crap like that?

Only the other day I saw a video where the likes of Song and Walcott were geeing up the supporters. That's nice I thought, they really do care.

What a mug I was.

Of course it isn't all down to the players. Arsene Wenger is to blame too.

Has he lost his motivational skills? I don't know. What I do know is that this squad have let him, and us, down time and time again.

They have been mollycoddled and babied so much they only turn up when they want.

Complacency is breed throughout and its all began since we treated the domestic cups with utter contempt.

How can Wenger say that the Carling Cup has no meaning but was desperate to win it this season? It's double standards.

I don't want Wenger to go. I want him to have a shake up, and I think he will, to refresh this squad.

Believe me this squad is highly talented. In my opinion it is the most talented in the Premiership but the attitude is terrible.

Arsene Wenger will rectify that this summer. He has too.

People are losing faith rapidly and with performances like today's who could blame them?

The club has made a lot of bad PR errors recently.

They would go a long way by offering the Gooners who travelled there today some kind of refund or gesture.

Our away fans are the best in the league. They deserve so much more than what they saw today. We all do.

Apart from those players mentioned (in my opinion) the others should hang their heads in shame.

Keep It Goonerish.........

missed the game wife was in labour why did ramsey go off?

Horrible performance. This squad is very talented but allowed to coast through their careers by Wenger who is determined to be their father not a manager.

Will he do something in the summer? I don't think so. He'll sign no-one because he hasn't scouted anyone.

how long will you give this shit manager time and time again??? Taxi to Madrid pls!!!!!

Great article...I was one of those who went...very very frustrated - not sure what else to say really...after Bolton...sigh

However, I agree, we CAN and WILL turn this around...but things have to change this summer...then will we see what M. Wenger is really made of.....

It will never change as long as Wenger are the manager,he have decided to award failure time and time again.Song got a contract extension,Diaby etc they are all on huge salaries and have never achieved anything not a thing nada.He created this atmosphere of complacency this intolerable culture of i only have to perform every third game,he never tells them to get their act together he never screams at them and he has stopped motivating them.He is like a boat without a rudder, one week he will tell you everything is fine, next week it might be not so great but the next week it is all good again. He will spin, adn spin and spin and will never change. He is an egomaniac with a failed projected and refuses to acknowledge. He never changes the tactics it is always trying to score the perfect goal and everyone now knows how to defend against Arsenal that is why we so often fail to win games. We have to change the management otherwise it will be another 3 years of this insufferable rubbish.

There are hardly any players in this squad who will give the rest a rollocking when needed.

I'd like to believe that Wenger will shake things up but history is against him.

All doom and gloom but another successful season. Champions League is like winning a trophy. Anyone who disagrees should go and ask a Spud or Scouser how they feel! Wenger spoilt Arsenal fans when he lavished success on this club & he did it with style. A true 'Special One'. Now so many want to see the back of him. This team will win things - our away record should have ensured we won the league. Home to West Brom/N'castle/Sunderland/Blackburn we got 2 points - should have had at least 10 & then what happened at Bolton & today would have been different. We have a great squad of players about to hit their prime & I think AW will do the following this summer:
Alumunia out/backup GK in
Centreback in (big signing Arsene - got to be the right one - we need a real leader back there)
Djourou cover for Sagna - Eboue out
DM in & Denilson out
Rosicky out (Ramsay in)
Striker in - NikkiB out

Kroenke is the best thing that could have happened to Arsenal. He's a business man, but he also wants success. He's not going to have invested so much into Arsenal just to accept this pathetic rubbish from what is arguably the most talented squad in the premiership. At last we have someone who is going to tell Wenger to buck his ideas up. Isn't it strange how since Kroenke took over the club, Wenger's attitude to transfers and to the size and composition of his squad has changed? I wouldn't be at all surprised if Stan's had a little word in Wenger's ear and told him to get a grip on his managership and a grip on his squad. I am sure the acrimony felt by so many after the club raised its ticket prices has not been lost on Kroenke. Hopefully, he is the man to give Wenger a well overdue kick up the Arsene!

Just got back from the game. Horiible, horrible day. Abused and threatened by fat, ulgy stoke cavemen. Although saw a couple get a smack from irate gooners which was nice.

Arsène Wenger does NOT motivate the players in his words it up to the players to motivate them self's so WTF does the manager do then??

visionary said...

wrighty. i agreed with the first two thirds of your blog, right down to where you said they were the most talented in the premiership, then you said you wanted wenger to stay on, WHY
surely if as you state they are so talented, it has to be down to wengers style of management so come back and explain please
sorry you and me don't see eye to eye on this but id still have a pint with you,

Wrighty7 said...

I think Wenger is still a genius mate.

The only problem is there are too many yes men around him and a lack of leaders in the squad.

I'd have a pint with you too mate!

Thought Song was very good today, on defending set pieces anyway. The team's performance was right up there with the worst I've ever seen from an arsenal side, however. No invention, no heart and no efficiency either... recipe for a loss against a team like Stoke.

Wrighty7 wake up and smell the roses.
If plane crashes do you blame the pilot or stewardess?

Wenger is to blame, he makes the decisions, he brought the players, he chooses the tactics. It's naive to put the blame on anyone else.

Putting your faith in wenger and arsenal each year, is like standing next to a bloke who keeps kicking you in the nuts. Eventually you move..! I even gave my man utd tickets away as I'm fed up being kicked in the nuts..!

Utter crap. Spineless. Rubbish.

rinse said...

However poor the performance was, it wasn't as spineless or as weak as the no-heart plastics who were walking out early.
I was too skint to go but would have stayed and sung my lungs out til the very end, like normal at away matches.

i think the big problem is when cesc dosnt play this formation does not work, that formation is buit for cesc, van persie up front alone is lost. he is drifting wide and putting balls into knowbody.

its down to the biggest "con" in football: arsene Wenger. People still believe in this educated theoretical idiot!.This is the manager that bought Squillacci and before him a stream of useless centre-backs. The manager that plays 6foot4 bendy on the wings. The manager that is only use during matches is kicking water bottles and embarrassing our club with his strange and sometimes discourteous antics. This is the manager that said we should all take the blame, the players AND (incredulously)the fans. The manager that said he may not sign players as this would "kill" the current players. The manager that blames everything imaginable for our failures, the pitches, the referee, over-physical opposition, too many games, loss of focus, opposition tactics(long ball and throw-ins(he suggested banning them)).
He wont change as he believes he will be proven right,,,,,in the meantime we have to allow him to sacrifice our quest for glory so that the world will see that the GREAT PROFESSOR WAS RIGHT ALL ALONG.......

Since Arsene Wenger and the Board that agrees with him are more interested in saving money and relying on 2nd grade or young players that do not cost them much, the best way for us fans to be heard will be to hit them also where it matters to them. Let us mobilize the supporters not to buy any annual (seasons) tickets until they buy strong and mature players especially in defense and at least two world class strikers.Talking to Arsene Wenger is worse than talking to a rock.So friends: Action Speaks Louder than Words. If we boycott the matches and sacrifice to watch on T.V for sure the message will be heard faster. HELP AND SPREAD THIS NEWS BEFORE MANY PEOPLE BUY ANY SEASONAL TICKETS" We are fed up of this total disrespect to the supporters.

has the last post say's we must do something tickets? well NO but buying the new kit NO , no one should buy it tell AV spends our money or goes

PS, AV is the manager of Arsenal FC it's not his club it's yours and my club and i want too win NOT!! just take part

fully agree with you wrighty, the thing which annoys me most though is wenger constantly playing players out of position. look at bendtner, he's not a winger, you don't see united doing that. they don't play hernandez on the wing like we do walcott, i feel if walcott got a chance down the middle he'd prove to be just as good as hernandez, it's so frustrating that our manager is so stubborn. i've said it before, the differenc between wenger and fergie is that fergie knows where he goes wrong and learns from his mistakes, whereas wenger is either too stubborn or doesn't learn!!!

Wenger should really blow the bank this summer and see what results. Im not asking him to do this every summer but just this once.
Spend 40m+ on players and getting rid of some dead wood in the process. Denilson, rosicky should be off. One cant make it at this level and the other has lost it since his injury.
Then atleast at the end of next season if we dont win anything, we can say he tried his best and that isnt enough anymore but atleast a new manager would have a team with a good mix of experience and youth to built up from.

Hi Wrighty
I have been learning a lot of psychology over th last few years and i understand the way this team has mellowed down over the years in terms of hunger, desire and real passion for the shirt.do any of u fans have access to any 1st team player in the squad..i would like to teach him my techniques for a week( 1 hour a day) and i can bet they will improve.ill do it for free, i can even travel on my own expense from india.all i need is access to a first teamer.someone like theo who i think is on the verge of true greatness.from his body language i can feel that he wants to do something but ends up doing something else, since he doubts himself....this subconscious tendency is what plagues this team...

let me know

lol gotto say Djourou has performed an outstanding optical illusion which has duped 90% of Arsenal fans.

Before he came back we were still shipping goals and as soon as he comes back and has like one or two decent games largely because the defence was untroubled - he's suddenly our saviour and hero.

He is a truly awful defender and will always be exposed. Always lets his man run across him, Jones yesterday. Comical for the 3rd, and against bolton he was at it too.

I always knew how bad he was since he was on loan at birmingham.

This side including the manager is a disgrace.
Poor tactics, average players, no pride, no guts.
Wenger has caused us embarassment for years now, culminating in this season which shows that nothing is improving, nothing is changing.

All the bullsh*t over how wonderful our football is, is just media hype over a team who spend 75% of the game passing the ball around the opponents defence or backwards, in true terms it's boring euro play - yes I'll say it again WENGERBALL IS BORING. Sure Wenger came in and won trophies but the basis of the sides was already here before he took over.....
This side has Nothing like the drive, bottle, solidity and attacking flair that our teams of the past have had.....and before people say about how boring George Grahams sides were, well that is bullsh*t too! The reason our sides under George were disliked was that he built from a solid defence and they would never give up....but some of the attacking play and counter attacking were some of the best we have seen at Arsenal in the 60 years since the War.

Wenger had said judge me in may and the verdict is in: The first anniversary of the first four goal lead surrendered in the history of the Premier League; perhaps we could share a glass or two of Newcastle Brown Ale?

• The anniversary of twice surrendering two goal leads against the Spuds: perhaps some chips for that celebration?

• The one I am really looking forward to – the first anniversary after the last games in Arsenal shirts of Messrs Almunia, Eboue, Denilson and Diaby. Try to keep them out of the team for the last two games, as we don’t want to delay this celebration next year!

• Assuming I do accept your invitation to renew my season ticket, that I am no longer contributing to the wage packets of those serial underperformers, Messrs Squillaci, Rosicky and Bendtner.

• The arrival of the replacements for Fabregas and Nasri, as well as some serious competition for Alex Song and some support for RvP (unless of course he flies the nest too).

• The arrival of some proper defenders – you know the type Arsene; they can hold a line, they can head the ball away, they throw themselves in front of shots, they protect hard won leads in the 10th minute of injury time and don’t concede soft goals from free kicks. Of course you know the kind of player I mean, Arsene, so why don’t you buy them? And why don’t you employ a full time defensive coach?

After all that celebration, let me turn to judgement time, as it’s May. Oh but I forgot, we can celebrate something now, and we don’t have to wait until next season. I know it’s not quite the end of the season, but we can of course celebrate the sort of prize I know you value highly. Qualification for the Champions League. I am so looking forward to three riveting home games against some obscure teams from the fringes of Europe. I know I am digressing but even if you sell all the deadwood and let Fabregas go (you know he wants to, we all know he wants to, so let him go and get some money for him before his hamstrings go, as they will), we should be able to beat the might of next season’s visitors from Sweden, Serbia and Greece if we are (un)lucky; and then as always happens, we will draw a big team and go out again, but not before we hear you say how much better we are this year and now is the time to show our mental strength and all that jazz.

So yes, you are right, Arsene: there will be so much to celebrate next year; indeed I am almost tempted to open the bubbly right now. Excuse me while I reach for the wine rack. Don’t worry Arsene, it’s good French stuff, and I’ll make sure it’s nicely chilled before opening it.

But back to judgement time… to be honest Arsene, I think this season has been pretty dire. Project Youth hasn’t really worked has it? True Chesney and Jack have done well and it’s nice to see Rambo back; JD has put in a shift on occasion, but what else have we got to show for Project Youth? A captain whose heart isn’t in the club any more; Theo, who flatters to deceive most of the time, Gibbs who has contracted Clichy-itis alarmingly early in his career, and the self-publicising Great Dane, who showed us in a flash in Barcelona what he has to offer. Not much.

Defensively we were a shambles. One point each against Newcastle, WBA and Spurs, all of whom won at our place. Attacking-wise we were toothless on too many occasions when it mattered: Birmingham at Wembley, Sunderland and Blackburn at home. Creatively, on occasions we were so bereft of ideas it was embarrassing – Orient away, ManU away in the Cup, Leeds and Huddersfield at home in the Cup.

Anonymous said...

And if Cesc and Nasri go, I reckon you won’t spend even half the money we get for them on new players. You’ll tell Ivan that Coquelin or Sunu are the future and they deserve six year deals.

But before all that Arsene, I suggest you concentrate on getting the points to secure third place; or is the now traditional end of season collapse a cunning plan to finish fourth and get one of the cup games included in the season tickets used up early? Don’t worry, the champagne’s on ice; and that’s where it will stay.

What’s that I hear you say? You meant May 2012? Or sorry, Arsene I misunderstood. Ah well, I’ll leave my judgement pending till next year.

The Mancs proved what you can do with an average squad heart, desire, steel and bottle can easily out do skill anytime, Arsenal should be sponsored by PAMPERS, we have no leaders, no balls, no heart, too many players on great wages doing sweet FA, Arshavin is a joke, Bendtner,Diaby,Squallcci even Djourou is a joke we simply are not good enough and that fool Wenger is the highest paid manager in the PL

visionary said...

wrighty, believe it or not i agree with you about the lack of leaders in the team and wenger being surrounded by yes men. but tell us who assembled all these people, wenger of course and lets face it we both know he is a horrible judge of people and that's not likely to change during the summer.
i genuinely do feel sympathy for pat rice, nobody deserves to end their arsenal career sitting next to wenger

The problem is a lot of these players are on too much money, sure we don't have the 250,000 a weeks of man city but a lot of our players are on 50,000 + and don't deserve to be. The problem is with our youth players is that they have had it too easy and don't know what its like to not have their own way they are given everything on a platter, which is great but the attitude's it inspires is often one of laziness and when the going get's tough they don't get going.

Although i commend Jack's work ethic i still believe he needs guidance, he sometimes is a bit of a headless chicken but his heart is in the right place. Which brings us to leaders, and more notably there isn't really any player in that team that knows what it is to play for Arsenal. This i believe could be sorted through bringing back some fresh faces in the backroom. Bergkamp would be top of my list the guy is a legend and is fresh from our unbeaten season i'd also try and get vieira involved as well. These two could create that winning mentality and would bring experience which is relevant to the modern game. The backroom in many ways is more important we also need a defensive drill master if keown or bould could do that i'd be happy. This could also mean that we wouldn't have to spend much in the window, i believe the players are good enough they just need to be treated the right way instead of hiding behind their manager who treats them like his kids....
