How Can This Man Be Described As A Panic-Buy?

The more and more I see Mikel Arteta play in an Arsenal shirt, the louder I laugh at the fact some people out there called him a 'panic-buy'.

When he signed for us I was over the moon.

I loved watching him play when he was at Everton, and I love him even more now he wears the shirt of Arsenal.

Yesterday, in my opinion, he ran the midfield better than Paula Radcliffe runs a marathon.

You could have bought two-and-a-half Arteta's for what Manchester City paid for Yaya Toure and the Spaniard had him in his pocket.

Neat and tidy, Mikel gets better with each passing game. And I have to ask, does he ever give the ball away?

Arteta is like Arsenal's clock. He continues to keep us ticking over. He keeps the ball and does the simple things with it.

Players like Arteta are often overlooked in a game because they aren't always spectacular. But you need someone like him in the side because he is a steady influence.

I often wish that we had had him in our ranks in previous years. Him and Cesc would have been deadlier than a Puffer fish together.

A lot of people said that his best years were behind him. Well I happen to think his best years are in front of him and I'm glad that Gooners will get to see it.

For Arteta it's bad luck that he is Spanish. Not that there is anything wrong with being a Spaniard, but because at the moment Spain have the best midfield in the history of football, he can't get in their side.

Had Mikel been born in another era I am sure he would have been a regular for his country. It goes to show though how good Spain are when someone like Arteta doesn't get a look in.

If Arteta continues to play as well as he is maybe that will change as, unlike Samir Nasri, he will still get to show his talents in the Champions League.

So one day, that deserved international call-up, may just happen for him.

As for now, I will continue to squeal with delight when I see Arteta trotting out to the pitch wearing an Arsenal, and carry on sniggering that he was described as a 'panic-buy'.

He's more like a 'super-buy' in my book.

He wasn't a panic buy, Benayoun, Santos and Park were. Having said that, Arteta was far better at Everton. Made a massive impact there, but little at Arsenal because he's been played ina completely different position. You wouldn't know that being an amateur blogger.

I,m reminded of the Rolling Stones classic. You can't always get what you want but if you try sometimes you just might find you get what you need.

Face it, Wrighty never thinks before posting. Some dumb idea leaps into his head and he just types a load of crap.

Arteta was a panic buy. He's worked out wonderful. If he was not a panic buy why was the deal done so late that he was unable to even have a medical? Funny it was just after the 8.2 defeat at OT.

Poor mans Fabregas. Never liked him and never will. He can spray a pass and his set piece delivery is good, but he's not Arsenal quality. He should be laying on aat least 3 chances a game for RVP instead of letting him feed off scraps. And he's very weak in the tackle as well.

Ha ha, a load of crap that you seem to read?

And indeed, I am an amateur blogger. I've never claimed to be otherwise.

However you must be an amateur reader, because I think he has made an impact at Arsenal.

That is what this blog was all about if you read it properly.

He reminds me a bit of Gilberto. He often went through games almost unnoticed but when he,wasn't in the team he was really missed. A real engine in the heart of midfield.

Daily Star writer Jeremy Cross picked Arteta as the Star shocker giving a 5 mark then gave Walcott a 7 mark so much for expert football writers

Geoff,

I read that. Unbelievable!

And Yaya a 9?!!!

Think that Arteta was not a panic buy. Although i think Park was.
But the weird thing is that all 5 signings happened on deadline day....

Anyways i aint complaining

U gotta love stupidity! 1st the point of amature blogging is that u get to write what ever dumb idea leaps into ur head. Arteta has made little impact at Arsenal -1st he has only been with us 4mths! we have risen from relegation to 5th - what do u want, him to cure world humger? Arteta is not Arsenal quality... what the fuck is Arsenal quality? Besides modric who would u swap him for when u look at man u, Chelsea, Liverpool, spurs centre mids? He can spray a pass n his set pieces are good... dickhead that's kinda good qualities for a footballer to have. Arteta has made himself an integral part of an arsenal side falling that was falling apart... maybe a lacks some pace but smooth as a Swiss watch - so he must be shit. Amature posting stop wasting oxygen :-) the greatest thing about football is that everyone gets to b a manager but some people should not talk about football fullstop!

@ Anon, you probably hate Arteta...or u r probably hate wrighty..either of this ..i can feel it ..lol

I like Arteta, but Wenger is killing him, just like he kills so many players when he plays them out of position.

wrighty, fair dues for posting your opinion after reading jeremy cross in the star and not being influenced-by his stupidity, and i also agree that fabregas and arteta playing together would of been a better partnership than denilson and fab, and i ask myself this question, why did it not happen?????????????
am i 2 blame,

wrighty just let anowhoeva make a fool of themselves. That anonymous hater and anyone who dare talk about killing players - who in barca, real, manu plays in 'their preffered position' ??? football has evolved so think beyond your FIFA 12 or PES !!!

Wrighty, some commentators on here do not truly understand the game. Arteta is technically outstanding, hence the ability to receive the ball in pressurised situations and maintain possession with genuine authority.

For the comment, that he is like Gilberto, while he is unsung, this misses the point. Arteta mixes guile, with tenacity. He has a bit of Fab about him and by no means is this because he is some sub-standard replacement.

Arteta is a special player! Great post!

He's being played in his best position!!!! Moyes occasionally employed him on the left or right, to potentially play more physical players through the middle and because Arteta's technical skills meant he could hold a wing position, better than a luxury player!

Arteta is a central midfielder and I would have him above Xabi Alonso!

I am not sure why there is any need to discuss what type of buy Arteta was. He IS a GOONER now, and that's all that matters. HE IS currently on form for us, and not anyone else. He is a versatile player who can play deep, more centrally, more attacking, out left\right. I think Arsene has more credentials than anyone blogging, but he still has to answer for his results, and gets questioned. So I understand we can all be criticized. Good Post Wrighty in my humble opinion.

Arteta is a fantastic player for us PERIOD!...and there's no more to that. On the other hand, I can't see where this 'panic buy' theory came from. I can't believe that a PL club like Arsenal (or any for that matter) decides to buy any player impulsively. Mertesacker has been linked with Arsenal for ages, so obviously there had to be some scouting involved, likewise for Benayoun and Park. And if you think Santos was identified on deadline day, ask yourself if they would've sold Traore (which by the way was a done deal long before the ManU game) and ended the transfer window with one left back. Common sense seems not so common afterall.

Arteta was a panic buy because we bought him in the deadline of transfer season...the fact that he worked out doesn't mean that it wasn't a panic buy...it was also a panic buy b/c arteta is not the type wenger would look at in the transfer market...he's good but he's 29 and his greatest footballing days are beyond him...but still, experience makes you a good player, look at pirlo on juventus, he's probably 100 years old and still starts every game when healthy

Arteta has been the best buy of the summer. True that he is overlooked, but that is where he has shown his one of many qualities, doing his load of the work for the team not trying to be too spectacular.
Couldnt agree with you more Wrighty, and for me he was our best player on the pitch against City. Not as skillful as Cesc though, but is as much as an important player for us, if not more. Does leadingly well in pressurized situations and a bonus addition to our solidity.
Don't wanna think of him n Cesc playing alongside knowing that's gonna be a miss. But sure can wait to see the great things ahead he will be doing alongside Rambo n soon 2 arrive Jack.

And for the dumb anon kid talking big things abt football n blogging...go watch ur looney toons kid.

We Love Arteta.!!

Of course Arteta was a panic buy - he didn't even have a medical. He's a panic buy that's worked out fairly well so far. Both are possible - a signing working out well doesn't mean by default they are not a panic buy, as you seem to be saying. Wenger would never have bought him had he not been forced into the market by circumstances.

Anonymous said...

Have the peoeple that think that any of the players that were panic buys thought about why they were brought at the last minute?

I think Wenger identified them all early but the board were reluctant to give him the funds until after the Old Trafford debarcle.

all those signing were last minute and may be deemed panic buys but so what! Arteta is a class player and one i have admired for a long time he has been a vital member of the midfield since signing motm at wigan and run the midfield at mancashter citeh.

as for santos i happen to rate him, although his posioning is there to be questioned his attacking ability and the quality of his strength and the amount of standing one on one tackles he wins is fantastic.

yossi is another player who i think we could utilise a lot more he is a clever experienced player who is great for the squad and especially the younger players.

park is the only signing i doubt!

the mentality of the team and way we play is different we have to graft a bit more now which to me is a good thing because that was something we lacked before and again arteta isnt affraid to put his foot in.

onwards and upwards!

Are you thick? What game did you watch? He was fantastic not throwing the ball away at all and constantly annoying their midfield which cannot be denied we CONTROLLED! Arteta was bought as an experienced head and is playing like an experienced head. Just because he doesn;t get every assist or every goal doesn;t mean he isn;t a key player. I think he maybe responsilbe for the the very quick rise in Alex Song as he knows the position and what he has to do.

Arteta along with RVP, Vermaelen, Chesney and Song are our players of the season.

Shame some football 'fans' don't actually have any knowledge of the game and don't see what his neat and tidy style and experience have brought to the team.

maybe you should try to bum him if you love him that much, poor mans scabregaff
