Well I really put my foot in my mouth with my last post didn't? Despite that I still hate Chelsea.
Arsene Wenger messed up more than me though. Big time. His selection was a little different to what I expected but maybe he still believes we have a chance for the Premiership title and he was resting players for the Liverpool game in the week. Wouldn't surprise me.
Fair enough, the gaffer fucked up. But for me it was more simple than simple minds. Chelsea wanted it more and you have to respect them for that. They were more up for it. Perhaps Abramovich offered Lampard a years supply of McDonalds. We all know Lampard loves a MaccyD.
We have to move on. I know it's hard. I feel the pain. I had to drink a pint of Carling out of a Chelsea dog bowl as a forfeit. It wasn't good. And the dog was pissed off. A Gooner drinking from his bowl. Bad times.
We have to see a positive reaction. Many see the FA Cup as the only chance we have of silverware. Fuck that. We will win the Champions League instead. I'd rather win in Europe than the FA Cup anyway.
I'm sorry but I have to take that goal away from Theo. It was an own goal from the man formerly known as an Arsenal left-back. It reads better. Ashley Cole own goal. Have that you little muppet.
We will play Chelsea again this season. Not once but twice. Once in the Premiership and again in Rome. We will knock out Manchester United, they will beat Barcelona. Trust me. I'm a doctor.
I'll look forward to that night in Rome against them. Revenge will be sweet.
Keep it Goonerish.............

It was men against boys simple as that and Chelsea seemed to have fans everywhere in the ground
I thought the team selection was ridiculous. We could have won that had Song and Arshavin started. Now that 4th place is in the bag I can't believe they were rested for the Liverpool game. Arshavin didn't feature at all against Villareal, so can't understand how he needed a rest.
Ourselves and United both played weakened teams, and we got what we deserved. Europe or bust now...
It wasn't anything to do with motivation or desire.
It was down to a ridiculous, if not bizarre, team selection and tactical setup from Wenger.
Chelsea fans everywhere? What a joke, the middle tier in the Chavski end was mostly Arsenal!
As a Chelsea fan your article on Friday night really wound me up. But fair play to you this piece is balanced and even gives the Blues some praise. I know you'll never like Cole, bit like us with Gallas now. Best of luck against Liverpool in the week.
Two teams disrespected the fa cup this weekend by not fielding their strongest possible teams.
As a gooner it pains me to say it but maybe its poetic justice that both teams went out this weekend.
Maybe both wenger and ferguson need a history lesson to remind them of the importance of the world's greatest cup competition.
I hate Chelsea with a passion but they always put out their strongest possible team and the likes of Frank Lampard do not seem to have a problem playing 3 times a week.
i lost a massive amount of respect for wenger this weekend....
he let us all down and i feel disgusted.... to go for so long without a trophy and support him....then he goes and fields a weakend team in a semi final of the biggest domestic cup competition in the world....it was a disgrace and i feel insulted as a fan that arsene could do that...
we deserve to see our best players play in the big games.....
disgusting.....the only way he can make it up is if he wins the CL but if we finish up with nothing again this season i'll point the finger at one man and one man alone....
I expected Chelsea to beat Arsenal more easily. I am disappointed not to have trounced them with more goals.
Playing Song would have been a risk.
With Gibbs a liability as he was only just passed as fit Song was our only defensive backup.
If we played him and Silvestre or him picked up an injury we'd be in trouble.
Arshavin not being played I did find odd I must admit but at least we didn't take the piss with our selection like Man Utd. I can see the reasoning of not using Arshavin being using him as an impact sub. Brought him on too late though I think.
Playing Diaby SHOULD have made sense but he had a stinker. Playing Denilson was the logical replacement to having to bench Song.
Wenger just lingers too long on subs far too often and we paid for it. We didn't play a weakened squad, we played one of the strongest we could. Unfortunately some just didn't seem up for it (Adebayor, Silvestre struck me with that attitude the most).
Agree totally Jon Jon. I think we have to start questioning what Wenger is actually trying to achieve with this team selection. It was an insult to Arsenal fans. Fair enough we went out but to go out in that fashion seems bizarre to me - without really playing our best team or in our usual style. We have no chance in the league so it just doesn't make any sense.
Really fed up and do feel if we bow out timidly in the CL semi which if he employs these kind of tactics we will questions should be asked of Wenger.
Nice one Wrighty, it seems to be slowly dawning on you Arsenal have had it under the ego-maniac Wenger.
Give Liverpool a good spanking in the league and all will be forgiven, the Chelsea triple is on!
I'd love to meet the gooners in the CL final, its always better to meet a weaker team. Arsene is very concerned that even if they do overcome the mountanious struggle of beating Manc utd, the state of Rome's pitch is not 110% after a long Serie A campaign where both Roma & Lazio have been playing on it, it just won't do for Arsene he may have to forfeit the match!
the question is now.....is do we have the mental strength to even get bak to winning ways....
will it destroy the team or spur them on.......
im thinking the former rather than the latter......
that last comment was from me (JonJon) not avenell
This is the real avenell..
You alright Wrighty.??
no im the real avenell.....
????
JonJon I agree, the team wenger played was really bizarre. Our boys simply didn't know what to do. Hopefully that is the last we'll see of wenger's tactical errors. I fear for liverpool as they are going to get a football lesson on tuesday.
Will the real Slim Avenell please satnd up!
and spell proper!! lol
V.A
i thought he'd learnt his tactical lessons from the 1st half of the season....
liverpool will be a toughie...my heart saying we win...my head says pool will thump us....
I dont usually like or listen to what John Terry says but frankly i think he was spot on in his analysis of Arsenal.Quote, they lack the know how for the past few years.
Michael Essien
Brushed aside: Chelsea's midfield powerhouse Michael Essien strides past Denilson.
'In another year or two, those young players will be dominating the Arsenal team. They missed William Gallas, who is an experienced player.
'They are a good side, but they were probably a little bit weaker with injuries.'
They are also missing the players with the experience of winning the biggest prizes, the know-how to take their team over the line in the crucial matches.
I would have prefered us to play Arshavin but we only had 1 of our first choice 5 back players on the field so I can understand us playing 2 defensive middfielders to try and give us cover. Trouble was Diaby, back from injury AGAIN, didnt have an impact and I dont remember seeing either Diaby or Denilson anywhere near the ball for either goal (it was 2am over here so i may be wrong). We didnt play as well as Chelsea and lost. On the plus side at least we dont have to watch Chelsea every week - they are crap to watch - even their owner could not be bothered to go and watch then in the weekend!
Most worrying was that Chelsea were just phyically stronger than us and looked like they were more determined. Also a weird selection to leave out Arshavin, who can only play in domestic games, and not play Song, who has shown recenttly that he can help shore up a seriously weakened defence. Fabianski was poor but it would he unfair to lay the blame on a young inexperienced keeper. We should still have had enough balls to make a better fight of it. Van Persie, as good as he is, needs to talk less about strong finishes and do more to achieve one on the pitch.
That bloody owner is still there..
I thought he was going to spit out his dummy 5 years ago..
