Wayne Rooney Over Robin van Persie Is A Disgrace!

On a serious, and I mean se-ri-ous level, I have no idea how Wayne Rooney could have been voted into the FIFA World XI over Robin van Persie.

Apparently over 50,000 professional footballers from across the world submitted their votes for the World XI team. And somehow, Rooney was voted in.

How did this happen? Did Rooney send round a few glamorous OAP call girls to each and every player to seal the deal because I am baffled?!

Robin van Persie has had one of the best years ever seen in the English Premier Leagues stinking existence. His performances, not to mention his goal tally, have been unbelievable.

The only player (in England) that has got near to his level of play has been David Silva of Manchester City, who has also been phenomenal over 2011. But he is a midfielder, a different position.

Wayne Rooney is a great player but he hasn't touched Robin van Persie over the course of the year. So how he stood side-by-side with Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo (as strikers) in the FIFA World XI stumps me.

It may seem like sour grapes because I am a Gooner but did Rooney actually do the counting of votes? I only ask as I doubt he can count over 20 because he'd run out of fingers and toes.

In my opinion, the only players who has performed above the Arsenal man over 2011 are Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. Those two have been unstoppable and are on another level to anyone.

Robin van Persie should have been stood alongside those two and claimed his rightful place in the top 3 strikers of the world. Not Wayne Rooney.

I bet something dodgy went on there.

Probably because Rooney plays for a bigger club. Most players in Europe think Arsenal are piddly compared to Man Utd, especially as we're so shit in Europe.

I said the same thing yesterday. That team is ridiculous. Sergio ramos and daniel alves as full backs? Do they actually defend? 5 barca, 4 madrid and 2 united players is ridiculous.
There is no excuse for not having van persie and david silva on that team. There is also many fantastic players in europe that had amazing seasons that didn't play for the two spanish teams.

well you are very much right,vp deserve d slot.may be they apply same technology that was use in 2004 world best that went against Henry.

Unfortunately your first respondent is right. Pros are picking players from the 3 clubs they'd like to play for. Man U are the league champs and Rooney plays for them. RVP has had the better year but he plays for a club that plays for 4th and to simply play in the CL, not challenge for titles.

I think ur right mate. RVP should have been with them 2 world class players. But like the other peole have said in there comments, were no longer a top club. Were happy with 4th and 2 me and the rest of Europe that's why players like RVP won't get in 2 that team. Things need 2 change.

I honestly could not agree more! Rooney has been, as always, someone who is good for 5 games then anonymous for the next 10. There is no doubt that van persie has been better, a hattrick against chelsea, a goal against barca and more, whereas rooneys goals are against wolves and wigan. Away from rvp, there have been players that are better than rooney.
Cavani has been the best striker in italy, leading napoli to be the new heavyweight of italy as well as leading uruguay to the copa america.
Mario gomez of munich is also a top player. After ronaldo and rvp, he had the best goals to games ratio in his league, and will no doubt be exceptional in the euros. On top of that, other people like soldado and neymar have had a better 2011 than him! Even in the prem, Ba has had a better 2011 than rooney!
The plain and simple fact is that he won it for two reasons, he is english and he plays for man u
As always, let me know what you think

To be honest, the majority of Fifa and UEFA Awards are a joke, and should not be taken seriously. You only have to look at the number of times Thierry Henry was snubbed to see that. Zidane and Ronaldinho being awarded them over him was one thing, but for the likes of Michael Owen and Fabio Cannavaro to win European/World Player awards instead of him is a farce.

Is it not correct that neither Van Persie or David Silva made the Top 50 Players Of 2011 Shortlist? Just about says it all.

Very AKBish comment.

Van persie doesn't score important goals, Rooney does.

SOME1 SAID ROONEY SCORES IMPORTANT GOAL THATS Y HE IS THERE

MAN U R FUNNY ... RVP DOESNT SCORE IMPORTANT GOAL AND WAYNE ROONEY DOES ....

QUESTION IS ... ?? WHEN DOES ROONEY SCORE GOAL ?? ... LOL ..... AHA I FORGOT ... HE IS IN AMAZINF STREAK OF SCORING GOALS NA ........

NO ..... RVP IS IN AMAZING GOAL SCORING FORM .....

THINK B4 TYPING .... ... BTW ... ROONEY DOESNT NEED THESE AWARDS .... ACTUALLY ALL HE NEEDS IS LIPOSUCTION

My Assumption is:
They had to choose from the list of players who were there on the Ballon-D-Or shortlist.
If that is incorrect then this is an absolute disgrace, more probably bcoz of the 50000 ppl who voted in my guess it 49000 didnt know of RVP's record bcoz FIFA just chose to hide it.

I had this exact debate with two manc supporters at work. The key component which ensures that the players came only from only 3 clubs is that they are clubs with highest profile. Plus two were in champions league final. Rooney is biggest joke on the list though. The voting is getting like the Eurovision. When we reach champions league final this near, Robin may get a look in;-)

They voted for Rooney because his head can be roasted or boiled as a half time snack with butter & beans or tuna.
As you pointed out RVPs performances have been immense where as Rooney has been fairly average during games. His goal tally is impressive but many came from penalties & just like in the world cup, he has been anonymous in many games. Robin is pure class on & off the pitch and at scoring and creating goals. I hope we keep hold of him.

Though I agree it's farcical that only players from those three teams were on the list, don't forget that was for a season - last season. RvP played only half of last season. If he carries on and bags another 30odd goals this season, he will definitely be listed on next years award.

Robin van persie has had an amazing season over 2011 and i don't see the reason why this 'hair-making' rooney should fit in there, this is totally disgrace and i do not know what the whole of FIFA and UEFA are doing.other possible strikers who could have outsmarted the english man are mario gomez of b.munich, edison cavani of napoli and neymar of santos.

Anonymous said...

he wasnt on the short list, so ppl couldnt vote for him, the ppl who need to be blamed are who ever in fifa came up with that shortlist

Anonymous said...

in answer to the first post suggesting we are shit in Europe. Hmm, you a spud or something. In the last 6 seasons Arsenal have a better Champions League pedigree than Real Madrid, who had 4 players in the world X1. Only last year did Real go further than Arsenal in the champs league and even then it was only by 1 match. Seriously check it out, you dont know what you are talking about.

i don't have notthin agains van persie...as a man united fan i even beleve that van should be in the top three becouse he has been exeptional but rooney put united in the CL final and handed a premier legue.and also a fa cup semifinal so ballon d'or is based on the succes of the team u are into not the player ability only.

Anonymous said...

As far as the below article says, VP was in the list.

"RVP doesnt score important goals" just the other day you were calling arsenal "vanpersie fc". I wonder why.

Anonymous said...

It's always the same players from the same clubs on the lists.

That's why everyone dreams of playing for them.

Didn't Rooney go for 6 months or so without a goal over this period? If so, then his selection is just ridiculous.

Anonymous said...

You guys seem to forget, the selector for the football player of the year list only view n consider those on the FIFA games list.

Didn't Rooney star for a Man Utd team that failed to get out of an easy Champs League group in 2011?

How many did he score in 2011, was it even 20?

Bayerns Gomez could grumble too.

surely the pre-requisite for team of the year strikers position should be 30+ goals in the year.

It just shows you that most footballers follow spanish football and the champions league.
Or it's doctored.

Arsenal's Robin van Persie last season was seriously injured in early, and the remaining 5 months or so, until the return from injury this season, this is the end of the Dutch number one striker, body, spirit does not just affect the league, just released his cage like a beast , the World Cup in South Africa, has been impatient.

man and van London

Danish Gooner said...

Even as an avid Arsenal fan i would put Rooney in front of Van Persie. Please lads !!! Rooney is all round much better then Van Persie.

Anonymous said...

Danish Gooner I think you don't know any thing about football. If you been watching for last few months football were Man U lucky to stay where they are due to great help from refs? YES. Rooney Couldn't help them to score goals, link play in mid field and in EL. Now look at VP who single handed help Gunners (Us) to stay near the top 4 and EL. Do you still believe you are right.

Anonymous said...

Because Rooneys team has won things. Being voted on to that team means you're not only great at your position but you are a WINNER. Realize this is a vote of piers. Im quite sure the pros know a little more than the fans.

Just a tad bit bias there Wrighty

Fuck fifa, most corrupt organisation in the world

Roachy said...

Screw this topic....As at 16 Jan 2012.....

My concern is Arsenal have earned only 4 points from their last 4 EPL games and our rivals have won more….

Spuds has won 11 out of 15 points (includes game v Everton)

Chelsea won 7 out of 12 points

ManU won 6 out of 12 points

Liverpool won 5 out of 12 points

ManC won 7 out of 12 points

NewC won 9 out of 12 points

Let hope Vermaelen and Arteta come back next week and never leave!!!
