I DON'T fear Manchester City

Manchester City are spending more money on players than Elton John does on flowers and most people I know are immediately assuming that a top four finish on the cards for them at the expense of Arsenal.

It makes me laugh. Of course if Manchester City keep spending at the rate they are then they will eventually challenge for a place in the top four. Despite signing our very own Adebayor and about 95% of the other strikers in world football I don't see it this season.

In fact I think it will all go tit's up at the Eastlands this campaign and Sparky will find himself at the Job Centre around March/April time. I think he has made some very interesting signings but its all about balance.

I look at the Manchester City squad and I see a half decent starting eleven beginning to shape up. Now unfortunately for Hughes, more than half of those eleven are strikers so unless he goes back to the 1930's style of 2-3-5 then I can see a lot of disgruntled players in the City squad.

There are a lot of trouble makers and volatile players in that squad. Bellamy, Robinho, Adebayor, Santa Cruz and especially Carlos Tevez will not be happy with squad rotation. Bellamy may even get the golf clubs out again. Who would win a Royal Rumble out of those lot? My money is on Bellamy. He is wicked with that 7 iron.

I honestly believe that Manchester City will come out of the blocks flying this season and many will jump on the 'I told you so' bandwagon. Despite this I reckon the wheels will come off and there will be a lot of grumbling coming from the City of Manchester stadium around February/March time when the going gets tough and players are being rotated more than they would like.

I understand what a great time this must be for Manchester City fans. Being linked with all the big names and actually signing some of them must be very exciting and for some they can have some bragging rights over Manchester United, especially over Tevez, but I think this will still be a transitional period for them. They can't expect success straight away and I'm sure most of them don't.

Despite Arsenal selling Adebayor to City I actually believe we will be stronger for it; as long as we keep the rest of the squad together. We have developed this squad and sooner or longer it will just click. I'm actually optimistic that will happen this season.

By strengthening in the right areas we can compete for the title. Wenger has a rumoured £25m from the Ade transfer and I hope he spends it. A strong midfielder is a must and another defender is a close second.

The Arsenal squad appears to have a strong bond and it should have. The players have had time to gel now and I'd say it could be a make or break year for some of them. Actually not could, but is.

A title challenge, not a top four finish, is the minimum I expect. Manchester City on the other hand want a top four finish so our ambitions are different.

I wish Manchester City good luck for the season but I don't expect them to threaten us. Not yet anyway. Don't believe all the newspapers and everyone saying they are guaranteed success because they are spending plenty of money.

I respect Manchester City and I don't want to sound 'top four' arrogant but I don't fear them. In fact I reckon Arsenal will rise to the occasion and the doubters will inspire us. Its time to stand up and be counted!

Manchester City will be a major force in a couple of years but they are not a threat right now. Even if Arsenal don't spend another penny.

Keep it Goonerish.............

can't really disagree with that as things stand at the moment. We'll see though. Top 6 and i'd be chuffed. Maybe we can get Keegan back and play 1 - 10 formations.

What a sad little clown you are....

Of course your Arse wouldn't spend like there's no tomorrow if you were in the position City find themselves in now would you? No course not, you'd stick with Wenger's bargain basement buys then hope they come good like you do every season when you win silverware every year.... oh, wait a sec, you DON'T win silverware every year do you!?! my bad! Sorry, thought you were a club with ambition, who wanted to challenge for trophies, silly me! Who needs big money buys when you've got Bentner!!

A City fan mocking us about trophies. xD

I think you will find Given, Zabeletta, Bridge, Richards, Dunne, Komapny, Nedum, SWP, Robhino, Ireland, M Johnson, Petrov, Bellamy, Di Jong, Elano are all of the right level but we didnt have strength in depth. Johnson's injury did for us last season. Signing Barry, Tevez, RSC & Adebayour + 1 or 2 decent centre backs will see us really challenge. I can see City finishing 4th or 5th. not sure at who's expense.

we did win more home games than anyone bar united last season (I seem to remember a 3-0 drubbing of arseanl), it was a lack of physical presence away from home which let us down, ie adebayor 2 - city 0 in the reverse fixture. Can't see how this will be a bad buy for city. If I was an Arsenal fan I would be concerned Wenger does nto seem to want to spend the funds received. Have Arsenal given up all title ambitions now as they have clearly gone backwards from last season where they were a million miles off the title ?

Anonymous said...

Absolutely agree with all of that. I'm a City fan and would love us to crack the top four but out of that four it is Arsenal at who's expense I would least like to do so. I hope your lot do click and knock Fergie and Chelsea off their smug perches... at least until we can get up there in a few years time.

p.s. I would hope that the 'sad little clown' comment isn't from a City fan. I hope we can keep some dignity and appreciate the difference between the mugs who really take the piss and realistic articles like this one

FUCK OFF YOU CITY FILTHS, FROM THIS WEBSITE..go win a trophy and come back and write..got a sheik so they can buy every single champions league and apremier leage trophy eh?? Bloody hell you just got adebayor!! not Henry in his prime!!!!

"Manchester City are spending more money on players than Elton John does on flowers and most people I know are immediately assuming that a top four finish on the cards for them at the expense of Arsenal."

Most people - except City fans. So it's your problem, and not ours. Patience our watchword; while it is great to see fine players coming to the club, we've been shite or thereabouts for thirty years or more, so two or three years more as we build for world domination is just fine.

Anon 13:10 you pathetic little twerp. Your blogger here is commenting on City - and you say we have no right to answer. Dear me. You're behaving like a United supporter. Now - run off back home, Mummy wants to wipe your nose, snotty.

Exactly.. I remember being hugged by Man City fans up at Maine Road after we beat you 5-1. Alas we threw away the title that year but our mutual hatred of United was a cause for celebration that day.
I think City will bring something very different to the league next season but cant see them quite breaking the top four as yet, and thats when the problems will begin.. As for Adebaywhore.. good luck with him. I foresee him scoring a hatful early on and kissing the badge on a regular basis, only to flirt with Chelsea or Milan if you don't get into the champions league.
Good Luck for the coming season.. its a shame in a way that you are completely restructuring because I thing Nedum and Michael Johnson are excellent players who could have formed the backbone of a potentially excellent side.

Wow! Didnt take long for some City fans to turn into arrogant chavs did it???

Mocking us for bargain Basement buys??? Beeejayzussss! The fella was bein serious too! Hilarious!

If thats the response from a well meaning, well balanced article, just wait till the rest of the leagues supporters starts to despise City as has happened with the chavs!

Can't wait!

The thing that we have in our favour is Arsene, clearly a much better manager than Hughes. Will be interesting to see how city do this year, but they will not finish ahead of us.

Anyone see Ade saying he wanted to show he 'loved' City. What an absolute donut.

however it will be nice to have some real competition at the top 4 now..instead of villa coming and wiping the floor and running back to where they came from..

Dear "Elby the Beserk",

My comments at 13:10 were for anon @12:50. Its NOT a generalisation. Its a comment with a specific target. My fault I didn't point it out earlier..

i fell a little bit sorry for city fans, you have been in the shadows of man u for so long and now that you have a real chance to progress and compete you have a manager who appears to have no idea on how to build a squad.

Hughes will not last the season, he is well out of his depth and buying any mercenary player who is willing to put wages above playing for a side that plays in the champions league and challenge for honors. Thats why barry signed instead of going to liverpool, tevez instead of staying at man u and ade instead of staying at arsenal. as soon as you get a manager in that knows how to build a squad and challenge for honors then you will be a big threat, simple as that.

good luck though, you have a good loyal fan base and are due to step out of the shadows of the red half, i hope you take 6 points off man u this season and thanks for taking ade off our hands when no-one else wanted him, no doubt his value would have dropped again next summer.

I think AW should state some intent and splash the cash on Alonso; we'd get a proven prem DM, also someone with a strong winner's mentality (Euro 08, CL)!

Just cannot believe how ego are Man City fans are. Mocking about Arsene bargain buy. That Arsene bargain buy are all the club chasing for.

Here are a few example of Arsene bargain which are world class;
1. Thierry Henry
2. Kolo Toure
3. Bacary Sagna
4. Nicholas Anelka
5. Tomas Rosicky

As for mocking about Bendtner, he well worth paying for compare to Adebayor. for 80k a week and only score 10 league goals, just a waste of money. Bendtner even have 9 league goals where he have much less salary compare to Adebayor.

For Man City fans, hopefully Adebayor will score another 10 league goals for you then you realise what a waste of money he is. And 1 message for you Man City fans, adebayor also are a bargain buy from Monaco which you all buy.

Man city are destroying football.UEFA shud get a hold of them and chelsea and Madrid and santion them. This shud not be allowed to happen

Brian Roban said...

City are trying to catch up from years of money earned by C.L. football which can also bring the big name players of quality that City seek now that the money is not a problem and yes we may have paid over the odds for 1 or 2 of then like DeJong however he was bought in the January window which tends to drive the price up but then we only offered Tevez what Utd were prepared to offer and got Barry for £12 When liverpool were willing to pay £18 so is it throwing money around or just good business to buy the players it does take to finish in a C.L. spot

Anonymous said...

How sad that your money has already gone to your head. Mocking us when you haven't actually done anything yet. Btw, Bendtner and Robinho both scored the same amount of goals last season with Bendtner only making 5 more appearances. Bendtner didn't cost us 30 million pounds either.

we the gooners should have got 35 to 40m for ade 25m is no bargain 30m for lescott and they will get because citeh wants him that bad terry if chelsea say 75m or 60m citeh will pay, as much as we need ade to go not me really but have no problem with the sale only the price 25m is a bargain to citeh with ade coming back to haunts us that 6 points 40to35m is the least we should have got even wenger with a economics degree dont know if he got enough

Anonymous said...

Fear would imply that there is something to be scared of, and all i see at citeh are overpaid, average players.

Anyone with any talent laughed in their face when they offered their ridiculous wage packets.
They have Robinho, but he can barely be bothered to do anything but cash his cheque each week.

And as for the citeh fans, they make Chelski chavs looks like cordial, intelligent football followers. The bile that is spreading out from rainy manchester is incredible.
Here's a couple of facts for you boys, citeh are a nothing club forever in the shadow of your more illustrious neighbours. You may have all the money in the world, but your relevance in world football terms equals to ZERO.

Enjoy your battle with Fulham for the last remaining europa league place this year. As for us, we'll be concentrating on 1st place, something that all big clubs do, and something that you as man citeh fans would know nothing about.

Brian Roban said...

Lot of bitter Arse fans here
Maybe its how much the Club charges the supporters by the way even with all the new signings you lot are still 3rd on the wages list were in 7TH whats that tell you ?? wage cap your havin a laugh !!

Anonymous said...

Bunch of Arsen-holes aren't you.

You say we only sign mercenaries that put money ahead of champions league football. So in theory, you are saying that good players may only sign for the top 4? Then the top 4 would stay the same forever? That would suit you lot wouldn't it as it is you that will be pushed out this season.

Can't wait to break up the cartel. We did you 3-0 last season - what about this? 4,5....6 maybe.

Am an Arsenal from birth, but flankingly speaking most of fans are fools and jealous, they know nothing about football revolution. cite is tryin to do wat cheski did be winning PL back 2 back. I pity Arsenal dis coming season

Anonymous said...

I agree with ur opinions on city wrighty
None of their signings have really impressed me. Robinho is a very good player, but not scarily so. Hes no messi, torres or ronaldo.
Adebayor as well is a very good player but again not frightening.
They have bought a lot of very decent players, but none have the class of some of our players (rosicky, arshavin, eduardo, van persie, sagna, clichy). These are players capable of consistently performing and who have are real team players.
Man city are amassing a team of average galacticos.

I am an Arsenal.... But I am ashame of arsenal fans.... it is ridiculous....they drive ade out... and now they are saying city spends lots of money.. this and that... yay.. i do agree... it is very good.. we have a manager that can manage budget and still;l manage to keep us in the top four..

But.. thk before any arsenal fans comment about other club spending huge amount of money.. who is the one calling arsene to spend.. who is the one calling to buy a good striker (huge money spent) to replace ade....

Anonymous said...

I dont fear city but i fear what I saw yesterday, our new boy didnt look good At all'I know its his 1st game but he was very skidish no height,no width, didnt get his head on any high balls but Rosicky looked good. The club has money now so no excuse's give the fans and the players a lift by signing some top quality i.e Huntalaar,Hangeland

Unknown said...

If Arsene is not meticulous arsss fans will lead him to failure. Lets mature from pupil to people, from racism to social people, then trophy will come... Cheer our players on the pitch no there performance. Lets learn from 'POOL' you'll never work alone

Anonymous said...

City's starting eleven is starting to come together. Bring in a couple of defenders and a decent winger and they look very dangerous. But when the Arabs realise they can't attract players like Torres, Messi, Kaka and Ronaldo they'll look for a new club with a better reputation, a club that already plays in the Champions League and does not need to fulfill crazy expectations to make it to the qualifying round. Ive got no problem with the sensible City fans, but the ones who are alrwady giving it large about finsihing fourth or better deserve the reality check they will get next May.

Since were talkin bout teams spending to much for players, Wrighty u should write bout if u think that Uefa should do a cap for big money spending because u have to admit its pretty pathetic and will continue to get worse. I think it will be a good read and is an interesting topic to discuss.

Anonymous said...

I really hope Citeh will entice John Terry. It would make them much closer to the the top 4 level and at the same time destabilize Chelsea big time.

For those wishing for Arsenal to buy star players you must not have been a supporter for very long. That's not the way we do things at Arsenal, we're not another Real Madrid or man United. Get over it.

mark said...

it's daft really to see man city fans behaving as though they're already winners. it's actually really sad.

personally, i think you've got to be impressed with Arsenal's consistency; holding onto a pretty reasonable level of achievement whilst totally rebuilding a stadium and a club - something other fans should think about when their team contemplate rebuilding. it's no easy task.

now fuck off.

Wrighty, it is a good thing for us to sell Ade so we have some money to spend on MC or DM that we're missing last season.

Give Man City 2 years and they will challenge the top four so we (Arsenal) have to keep our games up.

abid said...

I wish people would let this rest. If City do break into the top 4, then they deserve it. And this isn't unthinkable or impossible. Considering that City aren't in any international competitions and have only the league + cup competitions to worry about, they're in a pretty good position to challenge for 5th and 6th if not 4th.

Actually, it'd be hugely embarassing if they didn't finish in the top 6. I don't know what insanity would motivate Dubai to keep investing in the team if they can't succesfully compete at the very least in the Europa League.

If they do somehow make it into the top 4, I hope its at Uniteds expense. I'm sick of their attitude and this one friend who keeps jabbing at Arsenal whenever he can. Few things would be more pleasing than watching City boot United out of the Champions League spots. The chances of this happening are small but I don't see why Arsenal keep on appearing as a target for losing their spot.

So far our team has stayed together. Ade was never in it so we're all the better for it. If Wenger adds some talent to midfield we should be all set.

ok lets see man c have a few decent players and now there gloating about going into teh top 4 over are expense??..
barry, robinho (he isnt even bothered what happens), elano is it? thats it..weve got..fabregas, RVP, arshavin, nasri, walcott, rosicky
and the reason i didnt put adebayor or toure in ur good players is because..toure has lost his spark.
adebayor i just dont like his style of play and i dont think hes that good..so yeh..gl next year :)
