I'll Be Glad To See Him Back

The partnership between William Gallas and Thomas Vermaelen is good, but I believe that a future Johan Djourou and Thomas Vermaelen partnership could be even better.

Don't get me wrong, I love Gallas and I hope that he stays at the club. The man has been immense for us this season. An unsung hero.

Our former skipper, like Eboue, has won round many Gooners with his attitude. He really has impressed me with the way he has responded since the captaincy was taken away from him.

He has shown true character. Gallas is a winner and the more like him at Arsenal, the better I say.

Having said that, there is a chance he could leave the club in the summer. He is in the last few months of his contract and if Arsenal have learnt from past mistakes they had better sort it sooner rather than later.

Or it could be too late.

I look at Gallas and Vermaelen and its enjoyable to see two players who clearly like playing together. I think that our Belgian centre-half looks up to his partner.

When the day comes I'm sure that Thomas will enjoy playing with Djourou too. Johan signed a long-term contract with us and I'm sure that Wenger sees him as an important player to Arsenal in the future.

I really rate Djourou. I think he is a class player and with the right attitude he could go on to become one of the best centre-backs in Europe.

Tall, pacey, good in the air, strong in the tackle and comfortable on the ball, he could really thrive alongside someone like Vermaelen. Then again I think anyone would be happy to play alongside the Belgian. He is that good!

Djourou has been at Arsenal since 2003. That's a long time for someone who is only 23 years old. He has been unlucky with injuries and it must be frustrating for him.

I'm frustrated because, as I've said, I really rate him and I honestly believe that he would be knocking on the first-team door if he was available.

By all accounts Djourou will be back in March. I'm happy with that because, alongside Sol Campbell, we will have quality options at the back.

If I were in Arsene's shoes I would advise Djourou to be Campbell's shadow. Sol could mentor Johan and I couldn't think of a better role-model in the art of defending.

I hope that injuries don't afflict Djourou in his future because he could have a great one. This injury nightmare is almost over for him and I'll be glad to see him back.

Keep it Goonerish............

I used to think your blog was a bit shit but you've really won me over with your positivity in recent times Wrighty7... a bit like Eboue!

damn right w7 guy is different gravey

Are you sure he's gonna be back in March? I haven't heard Wenger say anything about it.

I think he's good but cant believe he's 23 thought he was 20. Hes the same age as T.V. We need 2 more CB's to have to compete with him to play with T.V when Gallas is gone.

Djourou could turn out to be quality, but I'm not sure he'll form as strong a partnership with Vermaelen as Gallas has.

I was never a big fan of Gallas, however since losing the captaincy he has been immense. I hope we give him a two year deal, he deserves it, and I wouldn't like to see him go the way of Pires. We could have easily got another couple of seasons from Pires, and nobody we have signed since has been in his class, including Arshavin.

Hope so GG!

Cheers William. That's a BIG compliment mate!

Anto, I've always been impressed by him.

RSD, he is different gravy matey.

If Gallas left it could, no would, be a case of;

should have been his season w7

clichy for ~16mil from real would ya?

sol said...

i would take 16 mil for clichy lol, we are a finishing school for quality left backs - gibbo could easily fill that void and has actually been much better than clichy in the last season.

i think djoruou would thrive next to TOmmy V as well.

and cruise an'll ever since kenny we just dont stopping make the best LB's around

I think your absolutley spot on about Djourou - I was somewhat relieved to hear that we werent going to be able to sign smalling as the long term replacement for Gallas - I'll be very happy if Gallas and Sol stay about for another year while Djourou can slowly be eased into the team!

I love positive Arsenal blogs - lots of sites on newsnow just seem to go rediculously negative with the aim of provoking a reaction out of some fans! Keep up the great work

Spot on about djourou, all he needs is a run of games & a solid belief in him from his manager. He ain't no sendross. He just needs experience & he would eliminate the few silly mistakes that he has made. He would save more than give away, so I for one agree with you Wrighty.

I hope you're right because I've not got a clue about him either way and I don't think I've flipflopped in my opinion of a player so much since before Cesc's parents met!

The problem I have with him is that whilst there are times when he looks like he could be a fixture in our team for the next decade there are far too many times when he looks like an athlete rather than a footballer and that's something that's always been true of his game (including from what I've seen of him for Switzerland).

If you're right and he's a flip not a flop then he will be one hell of a player because he's got all the physical attributes that would be perfect for us but I think that he has to start next term as back-up centre half rather than starter and (hopefully) from there force his way into the team.

Mustard lol,nah he's shite seriously he is

sorry dont agree djourou is the man for the future he had quiet a few games last season and showed no special qaulities for me. yes he has the height and build of the making of a good center back but he looked nervy and and slow when turned. he deserves another chance but i aint holding my breathe. i would have loved to see us get chris smalling.

Gallas is gone which is why Wenger tried to bag Smalling. Rumour now he'll go for Micah Richards especially if he doesn't get in the Wrold Cup squad.

Djourou? AA long way away from being ready. We cannot nurse anyone anymore.

I'm pleased to hear that some of us actually rate djourou, because from what I've seen of the lad he hasn't really impressed me. Anyways, I hope he comes good. It always difficult coming back after a long lay-off.

RSD,

£16m for Clichy? Two years ago I'd have said no way.

These days.....hmmmmmmm. Still no. But only just.

I'm hoping that the old saying 'Form is temporary, class is permanent' applies to Clichy.

You are right though, we seem to churn left-backs out for fun.

Real Social Dad said...

but ~16 is "loads o money" for a LB

Kyle Bartley is the one to watch. He's got an immense future for Arsenal and England if he's given the chance.

Anonymous said...

problem with djourou is he likes to pay as the left centre back same as verm, but none of that is relivent as the man is clearly allergic to grass

anto said...

his last few games were shockers

Unknown said...

I RATE DJOUROU TOO, BUT, i think central defence is not his position, even he has said it countless times that his position nis in the central midfield.
he has the ability, talent and toughness to play there. he could be our fellaini.
BUT since wenger has chosen the defence for him, then he should knuckle down, as he is prone to lapses in concentration, and gives out unnecessary freekicks, we dont want that, but that said - djourou and vermalean are the future.

Real Social Dad said...

that is a good shout bartley he looked fanstastic last time i saw him play for the first team.
so fucking annoying atvo has dropped the reserve games

anto said...

how can any of u tink hes good enuf ?? hes shit.i tink his absence has made yous 4get

Wrighty your off your head mate, that guy is a walking accident he aint any good, he is a senderos with a bit of pace nothing major or better,i rather have gallas for another 10 years than play that tripe djourou, that tells you my opinon on bambi on ice.

anto said...

well said anony we need 2 buy a solid cb to partner verm

Wrighty I used to think your blog was shit too, I am not wrong often and wasnt about your blog either.

As for turning down £16m for gael clichy:

Some mugs used to say that he was better than cole or at least "hes better going forward than cole". What a bunch of fuckwits, typical cunts that know fuck all. Clichy has been a liability from long before any injury. If anyone is stupid enough to bid £16m for clichy it will get accepted, how else can we pay for juicy long term contracts to people like Djorou who do fuck all but sit on a treatment table.

BnT

Real Social Dad said...

apparently real say clichy ~16mil

Anonymous said...

Nah he is an average defender who may improve a little, but everytime he has played he has been very average.

Im affraid Gallas will leave and Wenger will use his name as an excuse for not replacing him. (which will cost us again, April or may next season)

Anonymous said...

IM sorry but I don't really rate djourou...he is really good in the air but he makes school-boy errors..I know he will get another chance but I think it will just prove me right. Am I the only one who think Fabinski should be sold?

slimshady said...

Spot on Wrighty!
Still, how lucky were we to land Vermy?! He should even try out as a striker IMO lol!

Real Social Dad said...

how do you always get to the top of nn mate

Djourou has most of the qualities to become a very good CB, what he really lacks is agression. He's too nice. The Rooneys, davies and drogbas if this world spit defenders like him out. Another reason we need to get Martin keown in as a coach for the run in. We did it in 2006 and got to the CL final with girls aloud as the back four!!!

Sam_India said...

I am not sure he is CLASS as you call him yet.

Tall and pacey , yes , but he is yet to show the other qualities you mention.

But I really hope he is as good as you make it out.

Anonymous said...

DJ wud provide the height required to win alot of long balls tht we currently struggle with, he seems alot more composed then senderos and cud become a v good player but this is the hope of all us gooners of course

Anonymous said...

Djourou can be back up at centre back but we need to buy a top centre back for competition to Gallas and Vermaelen. I think Djourou could play Song's role though.

Anonymous said...

Like you I am an admirer of JD. I think he could well be AFC Captain one day - assuming he can get a couple of injury free seasons.

He has played both left and right CB, and looked comfortable in both positions.

Big R.
