So How Does Guillem Balague Know The Details Of A Private Conversation Anyway?

So Cesc Fabregas has told Arsene Wenger he wants to quit Arsenal THIS summer and rejoin his boyhood heroes Barcelona. Well that is according to Guillem Balague anyway.

Now don't get me wrong, Mr Balague is a very well respected journalist who has got many rumours right but he has also got them very wrong.

In fact I'm sure for the last 4,345 transfer windows the man has said that Fabregas is leaving Arsenal to join Barcelona. He will keep doing this until eventually, when it happens, he can say I told you so!

It's fucking easy!

What I'd like to know is how does Balague know the details of a private conversation (if there actually was one) between Cesc Fabregas and Arsene Wenger anyway? Was he there? Is he psychic?

Or is he just making it up?

If this 'supposed' chat between captain and manager does exist when why couldn't it had been about Wenger discussing his transfer targets with Cesc and reassuring him of the clubs ambitions?

I'll tell you why, because news like that doesn't sell newspapers and it doesn't create hits on websites.

Despite all the 'breaking news' and hysteria created by the likes of Sky Sports News that Fabregas is leaving ASAP I'm going to remain calm over all this. I'll believe it when I see it with my own eyes.

If the worst possible scenario did happen and he left the club this summer then I hope Arsenal do not sell for a cheap price. If Real Madrid can fork out £80m on Cristiano Ronaldo then I'd expect at least £50-60m for Fabregas. Not all this £30m shit I'm hearing.

Don't forget Arsenal hold all the cards. Barcelona and SSN do not.

Keep it Goonerish.............

Who can blam him if he leaves?

Seeing the story on the BBC though has made me wonder - They tend not to go for standard rumours.

If we sell him cheapley then we must ask the board why?
Sure he wants to leave as did Ronaldo, yet Man United still aked for top dollar.

He has 4 years left on a contract on £100,000 per week...that £20 million in wages already.
We need at least £45-50 million for him

Anonymous said...

Ballague made the same statement last season......professional journo my arse !

Anonymous said...

Thank you Wrighty!

I have been scouring the net to find one sane person to see what I see... That all this is just another attempt by Balague and his employers (probably Barca) to upset us...

I have been shocked by the reaction of some gooners. We are talking about the man who wears the shirt with more pride than anyone in the club, the skipper. He played with a broken leg ffs!!!

WE HOLD ALL THE CARDS. Don't give in. be strong. stand up for your captain. Don't just let them take him. They want him? Well they can't have him! End of story! they had their chance and mistreated him. He is ours.

I seriously hope Arsenal officially come out with a similar statement.

Good one Wrighty! Cesc will leave us one day, almost certainly for Barca, I have no doubt about that. But just because Balague says he will now does not mean it is so. Let us not forget that journo's have agendas too, Balague is no different. As usual, all the noise is coming from Camp Nou and their mouthpieces. If Cesc actually wants out now, that will be CONFIRMED soon enough. And getting that move will not be a foregone conclusion either, as to sell the centre-piece of this team will undo most of the work and sacrifice of the past five years. Short of Luca Brazi putting a gun to Arsene's head and Vito Corleone telling Arsene that either his brains or signature will be on the transfer contract, I do not think there will be an "offer we cannot refuse". Plus...What is currently happening at Camp Nou? Oh yeah, elections again. Have we not read this script before? Have we not seen this sort of behavior from Barca and their media lackeys before? Mas que un club? No lo creo!

Yeah I swear wenger is overseas, can we confirm this some how????? I would love to shut these ssn punks up!

Anonymous said...

They want our player so we should make it hard for them. If I was Arsene I'd turn around and say: "Give me £30 million plus Xavi and we can start talking". Many would say Xavi's better than Cesc even without the 30 mill on top, but they're the ones who want to do business so they can do it on our terms. If they say no they can fuck off and go without their man.

Anonymous said...

Balague said exactly the same thing this time last year. It's all part of the tapping up process, without the danger of the club being caught! Just put it out there and see what falls out of the woodwork. It may be Fabregas it may not.....we'll see.
I just hope that if he does choose to go and thw 'Board' are silly enough to take their 30 pieces of silver the 30 pieces are neare 60mil cos that is a far more realistic valuation, in these inflated times.

Unknown said...

Fabregas is number one, under contract. Number two, let's face it, the kid is great, but Xavi is still better. Barca has both Xavi and Iniesta. Why would Cesc want to go somewhere to be just as redundant as he is on the national side? He wouldn't. The smart money, for Fabregas, would be to wait a few years until Xavi is 32 or 33. Then go to Barca.

it will be a sad day when he leaves but we are the arsenal and we will live on..just hope wenger spends the money on a few worldies and doesnt give the role to denilson..

Anonymous said...

I still remember Mr Balague stating with near certainty a few years back that 'within 48 hours Real Madrid will have signed Patrick Vieira and Paul Robinson'.., Paul Robinson, yeah i know, absurd.

Since that moment, although liking his TV work, i've never paid attention to any of Guillium's 'transfer rumours'.

Can't see Cesc leaving, call me naive but if he was then I believe he would have done so with far more dignity than what is being reported.

Anytime the guy is in spain, its the same. When he comes back to england, he quashes the rumour. Can't see it being any different this time.

Besides, i believe Wenger is out of the country.

gooner91 said...

i havent been able to find a single piece of news thats reporthing this that actually has any solid comments from either cesc or wenger. if u look its all coming from the spanish media and barcelona, of course theyre going to be saying this. personally i feel the way barcelona conduct themselves as a club its totally immoral. they heap pressure on a player repeatedly until he finally caves in and signs. how do u think they got henry? we have to remember nothing is offical untill announced by arsenal. and all those saying wenger wont replace him etc, wengers not stupid he knows cesc is the heart of the team. personally im optimistic for the summer because i feel wenger has finally realised we need some new players.

JonJon said...

and you are totally right

we hold all the cards..

the lad is under contract until 2180..its upto wenger what his short term future is..

its 60-70mil otherwise they can piss off and he stays

Unknown said...

this guy is weird. we have nasri who can fit very well. so dont think there is no one to fit that role

Anonymous said...

Finally someone who does not panic. Fact is this has been every transfer window since he broke through. Fact is Barca have said a deal is close several times. Fact is he is on a long term contract and says he is very happy at arsenal. He wants the future resolved which means what? Assumptions can be made. The fact is he said he is very happy, said he wants to play for Barca sometime and specified he was in no hurry. So hard pressure i dont believe he will make. Arsenal decide when and how much. And the spanish journalist and Barca have been saying every election every year he is signing then afterwards denying ever saying so. And it was a radio show...ring a bell from last year? Or the year before?

Anonymous said...

He can go, no one player makes the team and this team is poor at the minute, we have 40-50m to spend, get 45-50m + Yaya Toure for fabregas and we have some serious bucks to ivest in the team
Neuer/Adler (12-15m)
Sagna NEW CB(10-15m) TV5 Clichy
Song Yaya Toure
Arshavin Gourcuff (15m) RvP
Chamakh

Bench: Almunia, New CB, Eboue, Diaby, Nasri, Bendtner, Hazard
Get another new cb as back up as well for 10m, Hazard (10-15m), and Hamsik from napoli maybe, benega potentially, Lukaku, or balotelli

Anonymous said...

Lets put some meat on the bones!!!Balague works for AS which is Barca's mouth piece in the media.Yes he is from Barcelona but he's an Espanyol fan.£30-35million will be laughed at by the board as we all know that they are money grabbers. If he goes then the Gaffer will be under serious pressure...

Anonymous said...

i dont see the reason why people are agitated. much as it would suck to lose him, cesc isnt bigger than the club. if we sell him and get cash plus a player deal, that would even make us stronger. it will give us money to buy more players to add on Chamakh

Anonymous said...

To be honest i dont want cesc to go, and a few people on here talking about replacements, which is fair enough, if i was confident in the fact that wenger would replace him! he didnt do it with henry and ade!! and even if he does, do you think he would spend all of it??

Anonymous said...

It's amazing so many people have fallen for this bullsh!t. Can't wait until there is outcry in Barcelona when they realise that they will have to spend £60m or give us their best players to get him, or the president elect has to admit he couldn't, pah. Wish Arsenal football club could put an injunction on these muppets.

Anonymous said...

Why don't we agree to sell cesc for £40m for the 2011/2012 season and in return they loan us messi for next season. Cesc + messi. That would be awesome. They should make me chief negotiator at arsenal. Ha ha ha

Guillem Balague is making it up. For a start, last week he said the deal was all done it just needed the clubs to agree a fee!!! Errrr... surely that's a pretty big piece of the negotiation. Talking of which, who appointed him to negotiate the fee? And finally, the player and the clubs all confer with him so that he can report that he's got the scoop!! The man's a plonker.

I think that this time, Cesc will go. Too much smoke this time. However, as some people say here, no one is bigger than the club.

It is going to be a huge summer for Wenger to sort out. If he lets Fab go and doesn't replace him with quality or buy the quality that everyone knows that he needed before this sale, people are going to be incredibly pissed off.

marcus said...

Wrighty, Ballague had lunch with Cesc - he got it straight from the horse's mouth. John Cross (from the Mirror, a gooner) on twitter also confirms the story.

Unknown said...

I seriously don't think we hold all the cards. Well, maybe hypothetically, but I believe Wenger to be a calm and reasonable man, and when a player tells him he doesn't want to play anymore for his club, then I guess he wouldn't want that kind of player. Of course, this is all if the stories are true. However, a friend of mine din an interview with Alfons Goddal, vicepresident of Barcelona FC and right-hand man of Laporta, before the final game, and he told him off the record that these are done deals (Cesc and Villa) and will be announced at the beginning of June. So there you have it, if you want, you can believe it or not.

Anonymous said...

I must admit that I am one of those agitated, I don't want Cesc to leave, all this talk of replacements, i doubt anyone will truly replace him, which means the team will have adapt again similiar to when hleb and Flamini left. Anyway here's to praying you're right and Cesc is still playing for us next season.

Lastly @ JonJon as much as the club values Cesc I doubt they have offered him a 100 year+ contract to 2180, it just not financially prudent.

Anonymous said...

Accept it. He's gone.
Best we can hope for is £20m + Yaya Toure.

Wenger has to buy a superstar now. If he doesn't there could be a major revolt. Why would RVP stay is he doesn't buy big?

Nasri in the Fab role is a joke.

The only man he can buy - and spend big - is Gourcuff. But after Chamakh, Bordeaux will never sell. That leaves a young Eden Hazard.

These reumours really infuriate me. Did Utd put up with this with Rooney, Ronaldo (when he was there), Chelsea with their players? Really gets on my tits we have this same shit every fucking summer. Petit, Overmaars, Vieira, Henry, Cesc etc.
And you're spot on too - how did a private conversation get out anyway? The reason the BBC and Sky have gone for this is that is fuck all else going on in the transfer market or premier league! Barcelona really are the most arrogant cunts in world football. I wish Fifa could do something about the shit stiring tapping up bastards. There is no reason for him to leave at his age. He has been in London since 16, is club captain and about to get a huge pay rise. Silly stuff from the media.

Anonymous said...

Some have said that the club just doesn’t have the funds to go out and buy the players needed. Is Wenger covering for his Board? I think the truth will out this summer.

Anonymous said...

Is Balague and Goal.com being paid by Barca to write this? This campaign is all about the price. Arsenal need to decide whether they want Toure. If they dont, they should sell Cesc to Madrid for more money-after all we may need to replace Cesc with 2 players. This annual campaign by Barcelona to unsettle our best players and buy them at a knock down price has to stop.

It may or not be true either way I don't care, let him go, get the dosh 50 million plus Toure and they can have him with bells and go faster stripes.
No one player is bigger than the club, do you hear this shit happening to Manure for Chelski every flippin year, NO you don't it's always us, every blasted year it's the same shit, time for the club to act like a big club and start get our club lawyers to write a few nasty letters and rites to a few of these gutter press papers and jurno's that would soon take care of that and also come out with a no nonsense statement that our players are under contract and no ones leaving unless we say so!!!

If a player under contract wants to go--the club holding his contract must not let the player's paramour name the price. He may just kinda fancy Barca, but this is business--not a childhood romance. See what Real, Inter, Al Mancu Citi would pay and make Barca come up with something similar. The blow to the club and the costto replace him well over 30-40. He can ride the pine til the end of his contract and at 26--we could still sell him for twice that. belgrade gooner

There is no smoke without fire...Fabregas wants to leave Arsenal....i don'tr know why you find that so hard to believe...how many times has a player..an Arsenal player at that said how much he loves the club and he does not want to leave??? Viera, Petit, Reyes, Cole, Flamini,Edu Hleb,adebayor...and yes including Henry as well!!!!....the manager and the board have to take responsibility,.....otherwise the questionbegs why do our most prominat players aleways want to leave?????you don't hear that too often if ever at Man U apart from Ronaldo....soon it will be Arshavin...and he's already started his own rants already.....if we had built a progressive trophy winning side 3 or 4 years ago with recognised signings then why the hell would anyone want to leave?

I'm not going to scan through all the previous 50 comments.

What I can say and you lot can take it which ever way you like is that it's a disgrace that fans of a club of Arsenal's stature have to go through this same shit every year.

We had it with Anelka, Vieira, Henry and now Fab. Yet the club seem happy to let this happen every year. What other top club lets this happen?

No matter what you say Wrighty I think there is something in this. I think he will go, something just feels different this time. It's like a culmination of all the crap decsions Wenger seems to have made over the last few years.

Who can blame Fabregas? The sad thing is if Wenger had just strengthened in the areas we all knew needed strengthening I think Cesc would have been happy to stay. But sadly we didn't match his ambition. How sad is that?

The club and fans these days seem more interested in balancing the books. Fckin wankers the lot em.

It seems to be very well sourced, looks like he really IS leaving. One inconsistency is no statement from the official site, something they have always done regarding cesc.

Con said...

My thoughts on this matter?

Fabregas is really unlikely to leave this summer - More rumours and hopeful innuendo from barca scribes.

I too have no doubt that he will eventually go back to Barca but not this summer. Perhaps if Wenger decides to leave at the end of the 2010/11 season?

The Financial Shackles are off Arsenal now and I expect major buys this season. CB, DM and a Keeper are probably a must. And if as I suspect, Gallas goes this summer, a CB is paramount as Campbell is too old and Silvestre isss, well you know. Djourou will need time in 2010/11 to recover from a long time out. World cup will do him some good though.

Apples with Apples...
If Inter can sell Ibrahimovic in 2009 to Barca for 46mil Euro (at that time) as a 28 year old PLUS get Samuel Eto for free in the exchange, Our Fab at 22 years of age should attract at least 45-50 million POUNDS + Yaya right now.

Arsenal's bargaining gold chip is that if they do sell Cesc to Barca they will after 4 years have an attacking creative midfielder at 28years of age, in his prime, that would be worth more than they paid for him.

So unless they offer around 50 mil Pounds + Yaya I would ignore anything less than that......

Anonymous said...

He is leaving to play for Tottenham. Its true, I met him on chat roulette and he told me. After that I met Wenger accidentaly on chat roulette and he told me he is going to sell him for 10-12 million. Its true! Good article btw.

Anonymous said...

He's gone ... just deal with it you fools! Ha in wenger we trust ... my a*rse.

Anonymous said...

Sorry but I don't understand your logic. To suggest Arsenal hold all of the cards is ridiculous, they don't actually hold any cards at all. The player wants to leave for one club and one club only. The club concerned know that, they will already have negotiated a contract with the player. It's Ashley Cole all over again. Dein said not a penny less than £25million, Chelsea laughed out loud and said you will have a disloyal player that we don't want and some loose change. Barca will do the same with Toure. Barca hold all of the cards and they know it.

Anonymous said...

I think this rumour - and that's all it is right now - needs to be treated with caution. I don't believe for one minute all this stuff about flying in for emotional meetings with Wenger. The papers and bloggers need stories to fill their space during this quiet period and resurrection of the Cesc saga suits fine for that. I can see only 2 scenarios. Either 1) a deal has already been done in principle for some time, and this is just the inevitable leaking as it comes to fruition, or 2) the whole thing is absolute claptrap originating out of Barca as part of the usual politics involving changes to the presidency.
