Robin van Persie Needs To Take A Leaf Out Of Michael Essien's Book!

I cannot believe that Holland have called-up Robin van Persie for their friendly with Turkey on November 17.

What surprises me even more is that van Persie will actually join up with the Dutch.

Surely Arsenal should be Robin's priority?

It seems he has spent more time off the pitch than on it in recent years so doesn't he owe it to Arsenal to get fit, actually play for us, earn his wages, and not swan off to play in a meaningless friendly?

Of course I can understand that being called-up for your country is a major honour and privilege but look at Michael Essien. The Ghanaian has stopped playing for his nation in the short-term to focus on playing for Chelsea.

Maybe Robin van Persie should do the same thing and focus his career on Arsenal, the club who nurse him though the injuries, the club who pay his wages, and the club who stay loyal to him despite him never being available.

I'm not having a pop at van Persie here, I just think his priorities are wrong. He owes it to Arsenal, Arsene Wenger and us, the fans, to begin playing regular football.

Robin, for me, loves Arsenal and clearly loves playing for his country but he needs weigh things up. I'm sure a break from international football would help him in the long-run despite it being painful turning down Holland in the short-term.

Essien has done it, so can van Persie.

Keep it Goonerish...........

Van Persie should retire from international football and be on a pay as you play bonus type contract. We have wasted millions on him when he's on the treatment table/ 80k a week for him is silly money when he's always crocked.

for some players playing for your country is an honour but fans like you want him to stop that, what a disgrace, this is why I hate fans like you, you have no class

Personally, I don't even see him as an Arsenal player anymore, he his not even helping the team when the ships are down.

He played all the match for Netherlands at the WC, he never lasted 40 minutes for us against Blackburn... If Arsenal FC means anything to him then he should turn the call to represent his country for the time being.

No class?

So you are happy that van Persie goes to play in a meaningless friendly despite being out since August?

Also I said in the SHORT-TERM.

Just hear yourself out, who was he playing for last season when he was out for almost 6 months? Netherlands, who paid his wages and medical bills during that time? Arsenal... How many games did he play for Netherlands at the world cup? 5 or 6... How many games has he played for Arsenal this season? Not even up to 45minutes, who is paying the bills? Arsenal! So in your sticking world he should represent his country first before the club that pays his wages and medical bills.. You must be suffering from mental illness!!!

He will probably fall over a water bottle and sprain his ankle while boarding the plane to The Netherlands.

I think it's easier for Essien to stopp playing for his nation in the short-term than Van Persie. The Euro Cup is simply much more prestigious than the African Nations Cup, so it would be harder for Van Persie to turn down his own country than Essien.

i thinkwe should give him the chop, toomuch time dilly dallying even when he is fit, chamakh isnt the greatest but running direct at goal has won us penaltys andgot players sent off, robin should compete only with arshavin for a place on the left from nowon

I would go even further Wrighty. I would look to offload Robin for much cash as we can in January and get the 80K of the wage bill.
We could then bring in someone of quality with a proven track record of staying injury free.
Don't get me wrong I love RVP as much as the next Gooner, when he is on the field for us he is world class.
However we are lucky to get 15 games a season out of him and that is one of the reasons we fall away at the business end of the season.
He is our 1st choice striker when he is fit, so he is a big loss when he isn't available for selection.
How many big games did TH14 miss through injury? Not a lot. We won things because of that.
I know a lot of Gooners love him because they see him as one of the more loyal members of your squad, but ask yourself this mate. If you work for a company that paid you when you were off sick for half a year, every year. You would probably be loyal and not want to leave!
Take no notice of the muppet who posted at 18:02. Club before Country every time. For players and fans.

who needs enemies when they have 'fans' like you!

you are very right man!Van Persie is consistently becoming a liabity to the Arsenal team!He played cautiously for his national team in the whole world cup only to get injury for his club!It is time the guy became serious oooh!olango kennedy

Quite frankly it is patently absurd that a rival organisation with a directly competing product gets to hijack another company's resources for free and without any responsibility for the sole purpose of generating profit for themselves.

Try that anywhere else in business and you'd get laughed out the building, so the muppet commenting earlier at 18:02 should just go and off himself, he's stealing valuable oxygen from intelligent people.

Arsenal should tell Robin to stay home and the dutch fa to go and do one.

What are they going to do?

Bn him for a few weeks from playing for Arsenal?

Seeing as it means he won't play for the dutch and get injured, and he's still got a few weeks training before he's fit, the problem with that is?

Totally agree with all you say,a little common sense isn't much to ask surely from a modern day footballer.....

wrighty, your spot on to have a pop at van persie, if he played for manure would this issue arise, don't think so and lets hope we don't lose a promising keeper whom we have pumped a lot of money into for the same reason, after all we lost a champions league game for the same reason Wednesday night

i think robin should play for arsenal b4 his country, it wouldnt be so bad if he was fit all season, but getting rid of robin is not an option he is sheer class, whatabout theo the next time england call him up, he plays, he gets injured, hes off for a long time, do we get rid of him? or any other team member who gets called up for their country and suffer long term injuries, no we dont, it would be great if the club managers could stop their players playing for their countries but they cant, but also the player should be more loyal to their club.

I wouldn't worry. His Dutch team mates don't pass to him anyway.

You can effectively write him off for the season. So much time injured and he comes back he'll either get tackled and do his ankles again or just get another niggling injury... hamstring, groin etc because he's been out for so long, vicious circle.

1. For the finnancial guys of you: arsenal easely can pay his wage. Why should they let him leave. Would microsoft cut steve ballmer because he was ill to often? Maybe not even if they re in a bad financial situation but for sure NOT when they can swin in their money! So stop talking bullshit arsenal couldn't spend 80k a week for him. You'll see its worth when he shoots his next masterclass goal!
2. Its just not robins fault when the netherlands call him. He knows that if doesnt follow he wont play for the dutch team for the next 2 years and would miss the ec. And when you remember that the dutch side is one of the best in europe then you should realise that this would be stupid. He has the chance to win the cup!
3. If youre afraid he gets injured and because of that you dont want to see him play u're as stupid as someone who doesn't eat anything after the dentist because his teeth could be destroyed again. A footballers has to play whenever his can! Over and out!

I'm sorry his team just got to the WC final, compare that to Ghana is a joke.

end of the day it shows how far holland have falen to picka guy out of a hospital bed, if ruud was 5 years younger robin wouldnt get a sniff, he is class but only occasionally lets set thats straight, he has the worst conversion rate of all the so calld world class strikers out there

VP is F*ing us around.....This guy has hardly appeared for us since arriving all those years ago. He really needs to realize which hands feed him. What a punk!!! I hope he doesn't play.....

Shame on that guy for wanting to play for his country.

If this was an American sporting team/league van Persie would have been cut a long, long time ago and I would have completely understood it. No matter how good you are, it's senseless paying mega bucks to see them spend over half a season every year on the treatment table. While I love watching him play and he's a top guy, he's a liability and a financial black hole.

Anonymous said...

Wrighty your spot on. Anyone who cant see that him joining up with the Netherlands is a smack in the face is clearly blind.

I can only imagine if we had had a player with the clinical finishing and vision of RVP but without the sick note. The trophy cabinet would be a little less bare i think.

Let him go, and if he gets injured (AGAIN) deduct his wages until he has played 5 games in a row in BPL then sell him!

Anonymous said...

This isn´t about stopping him playing for his country. The game against Turkey is useless. Its a friendly and is not at all important. THis means RVP will have to sit out a Premiership game. But he wont, because wenger is too stubborn to back down (he has every right to be as Arsenal pay wages and medical fees.) The problem here is that the club vs country argument is getting in the way of a players health. And its almost inevitable that RVP will get injured in one of those 2 games. Maybe when he gets injured the dutch coach will cut his losses and stop being such a self-righteous prick.

Abt Van Persie, he's talented, bt then, we all know that. The problem is that he never gets enuff games to reach the level he's capable of. I am so tired of seeing him around, esp as we can get decent millions out of him, jst holla Real Madrid & they wd cough up 30m bucks for the crock. We can get good strikers who don't get paid for being on the treatment table.

Do we miss robin? No

Leave RVP for AW to sort out. AW knows the situation and will act accordingly,no need for over zealous and self important fans to make club decisions,no medals for empty cans. Should AW deem it a dead loss case,he knows what to do,does not need prompting. Those quick fire and hire shouts are for Sir Sugar to dish out as gimmicks, unless it is your aspiration.

I must admit, I'm kind of surprised Robin's even thinking of going given his current situation. Let's hope he's short of match fitness and wont play, and if he does play, we all know he normally take's a few games before he gets into his stride when returning from injury.

RVP is a great player and on his day is world class. Unfortunately for him is that he is fragile, breakable. This means he needs to be smart when playing to minimise injuries, something he clearly doesn't do.

The last ankle injury was sustained because RVP decided to lunge his foot in a challenge. Why?? He had little chance of winning the ball and every chance of getting hurt, which he did, and it seems that with most of his injuries involve tackles where he didn't need to put his foot in.

This is not intelligent football. Anelka picks and choses his both his runs and tackles to minimise injury. RVP needs to take a page out of his book and given his propensity for injury, avoid many 50/50 tackles against big CB's and DM's.

The years are passing for RVP and if he doesn't change his reckless lunging habits, (which seem courageous) what will be written in the pages of history will be "RVP the player that could've been one of the best, BUT injuries destroyed him."
