At Least We Are In The Market

By all accounts Phil Jones is expected to sign for Manchester United after snubbing Arsenal. This despite having a cup of tea and a personal chat with Arsene Wenger.

Well, sometimes that's the way the cookie crumbles I suppose!

Don't get me wrong, its gutting that one of our targets has opted to move elsewhere but at least it shows that Wenger is actually acting on signing players.

We signed Carl Jenkinson earlier (I know he isn't the major player we wanted) so the gaffer is definitely cracking on with his dealings.

Of course there are people who will say its another 'nearly' purchase and I understand that completely but its promising to see.

Since the end of last season I have said that this summer will be an exciting one for Gooners and I stick by that.

I have no inside information nor do I possess a crystal ball but I truly believe that Arsene Wenger will revert to the Arsene Wenger of old where he wasn't afraid to spend a few quid.

In my opinion I think this the end of era for Arsenal. Arsene Wenger Mk3 is over. The five-year plan since the new stadia was built is finished and will be ripped up.

2011/2012 will see Arsenal Wenger Mk4. A new direction (not the boy-band) and I'm excited.

If, by 01/09/2011, I am wrong and still Gooners aren't satisfied, I will hold my hands up and admit it, I just hope that others will too.

Keep It Goonerish.......

As optimistic and realistic as ever Wrighy, and I do agree. I'm excited about this summer activity, regardless of the rumours of Nasri and Fabregas.
I don't actually think Phil Jones is great business to be fair. People are raving on about him because he's young and English. I'd take Samba all day long over Jones. We need a beast.

I just want wenger to get in d market but eto 20m buy ribery 30m plus nikki b jus put nasri in midfield.

To be honest, I think a large number of fans will be displeased no matter what happens. The club has attracted a fair few plastics, glory hunters, haters, and shit stirrers, and they seem to be content on undermining Wenger and the players no matter what. I look forward to seeing what Wenger does this summer and look forward to next season!

Anon - its not the players - Wenger undermines himsef by being an obnoxious idiot - do you think his childish outbursts against the referees and opposition strengthens team morale and increases the club image ? Wenger is meant to be the ambassador fir the club - he undermines everything positive by acting like a prick - nothing to do with the fans....

Cheers Scott. I'm looking forward to it mate

How do you know he snubbed Arsenal?

Anonymous said...

Like to guess why he would have chosen Manure over Arsenal?

Decisions have consequences as Nasri and now this show.

You don't think the price, all prices, just got higher for Arsenal.

Once again I agree with you Wrighty.

I still believe Arsene Knows. He has been the bigger man, taking criticism on the chin whilst paying off massive amounts of debt over the last couple of years.

This years financial wrangles should have released the shackles.

Next season is the first since Highbury when we can judge him fairly.

In Arsene We Trust.

Probably because he is a Northern lad?

Yeah I remember during the highbury years we used to spend lots but I think that was david Dean helping make good signings which we miss , hope wenger does spend cus he's a clever man and look what he did last time we had 11 top players , he was unbeatable , I'm sure he can do it again if he signs top players

Dimitri said...

God Wrighty you never really get it do you? Jenkinson is going to be our big summer signing. United buy Phil Jones, Liverpool get Henderson, Chelsea are about to get Lukaku, and who do we announce as our big signing of the summer? Cark fucking Jenkinson!

Do I mind that we missed out on any of the above players? Perhaps Lukaku because he's the real deal and ready made, but Jenkinson is the highest level of ambition shown these days. How much do you want to bet we get Nasri to ultimately sign a contract and have Wenger pronounce he's like a new signing?

Everyone says pipe down it's early days yet, but maybe you idiots haven't been watching the pattern these last 5 years. Wenger proclaims near the end of the transfer window is when the clubs get more realistic with their prices, but then when Everton don't accept a carton of ribena and a packet of McCoys for Jack Rodwell, he says the market's inflated.

Inflated? Inflated?! Didn't we sell Toure and Adebayor for 40 million?? Isn't that inflating the market too? So what if you have to pay that little extra for players of real quality? Quality is worth it, because quality wins trophies, trophies bring success, success brings bigger commercial revenues!!

All the big clubs do their transfer deals as early in the window as possible, so the signings can bed in. Wenger goes shopping in pound saver in the last minute sales and says the quality wasn't there, he has faith in these players, and soon as you know it 7 years without a trophy.

We don't have automatic rights to any trophy. But we can demand that a club which generates the revenues Arsenal does should use some of that to strengthen the team, and not the wallets of Hill-Wood and co. We can also demand that players give it their all when they are out on that field with the wages they earn! And don't tell me the effort is there, how many of you can tell the difference between Wilshere's and Denilson's efforts out there. Everyone can see it but Wenger.

In Arsene we rust.

Why would he join a club who has won 4 out of the last 5 titles and reached 3 out of the last CL finals?Typical Wenger trick go after some on you have no chance of getting. In the market for 1st division players thats us

Anonymous said...

Gosh. Arsene working at it? Got to be KIDding me.
Why a 19 year old who might be good later? Again. And again. And again. Enough of them loaned out to grow.
Your own successful youngsters are telling you to buy quality and do some cleaning all over the board. You can free more than 100m by getting rid of all those players not fit for first team action, and build us a challenging squad.

Pritpal said...

If we want we have to pay top money, in my opinion wenger should just go out and do it. Wenger hasn't gotten with the times and thats whats pissing me off. He's paying the same transfer fees as he was 10 years ago, when in the current economic climate that's just not good enough. look at the impact of inflation, 10 years ago 30m was top fee, now thats around average price for a decent player, get with the times wenger, your deluded if you think you can still get top players for 10-15m. It's not much we're asking for, a decent cb like cahill, a real winger aka hazard and a top 20+ goal a season striker ala benzema. All that and get rid of the underachievers. Overall it wont cost much if we ship off 5-7 players who are clogging up the wage bill and are worth a few bob. Wenger has a degree in economics after all i thought he would know the real value of 10m just isn't what it was a few years ago. what does everyone else think?

If we want top players* the first line should read

Keep up the hope Wrighty I feel the same way. The in arsene we rust brigade can piss off down the Kings road.

The other anonymous guy above said it best when he said the club has attracted plastic fans, those that will continue to moan about anything and everything no matter what. Wenger knows better than you moaners I can guarantee you that, so quit it. No one wants to hear your drivel. I cant wait for next season. Come on you Gunners!

If Arsene took a shit and decided that his shit was going to be our new CB for next season youd think it was a positive sign.

Youve always been an AKB and always will be.

Arsenal had an offer accepted and offered a better salary but jones wanted to stay in the north near his home and family. Wait and see what happens come 1st sept before judging wenger!

Anonymous said...

The fact that he's actually put up around £15 million for a player like Jones can only be a good sign and it shows he's more intent on getting who he wants rather than who will do

I Believe. In Arsene I Trust!!!!!! Keep the faith wrighty

'Arsenal were foiled in a last-ditch plot to hijack Tottenham's swoop for veteran goalkeeper Brad Friedel'

Bit of a theme developing here. Still at least we can hear Arsene's favourite saying 'Maybe one day I will tell you how close we were to xyz'

Some of you people - Dimitri being the obvious one - make it shameful to be an Arsenal fan. Arsene Wenger has worked miracles at this club, yet now people are suggesting he is a fool. I think that, in winning countless trophies in the time he has spent as manager of Arsenal, he has more than proved he knows what he is doing. And anyone who uses the phrase 'In Arsene we rust' is clearly no Arsenal fan. These are the people who booed Emmanuel Eboue against Wigan. These are the people who booed their own team during their lap of honour. Feel free to make your point, but please don't tarnish the reputation of Arsenal Football Club and it's supporters in the process. Wenger will sign the right players.

In Arsene we Trust.

I think the fans who should be ashamed are the ones who are willing to pay the highest prices in the world to see a game of football, played by a team who has been so sheltered from the outside world that there is no connection with it anymore. But my guess is that these fans never go to games anyway.

How long are you really going to live off past glories for? AskJeeves used to be one of the best search engines in the world. Would you still keep it around based on how good it was for you in 1999?

It's not really a question of Arsene being a fool either, I don't think any Arsenal fan thinks that. He is one of the most highly analytical and intelligent individuals I hear quoted, but he has some serious flaws which are prohibiting him getting the most out of those qualities at the moment.

The first is that he is far too stubborn and set in his ways. Our training methods may have been all the rage in 1996 when he brought them in, but the bottom line is they are massively out of date now. Training sessions consist solely of 5-a-side in order to teach possession football.

Things like defending, shooting etc are not worked on at all. Do you think it's coincidence we can't defend to save our lives and that none of our players are willing to shoot from outside the area too often?

Another flaw is his unwavering loyalty to a high number of players. Back in the old days when he first arrived and you weren't up to scratch, Wenger would sell you off instantly. But these days, players who are utterly shite have rucked up around 150 appearances each for the club. Bendtner, Denilson, Eboue, Senderos are all examples of players he has recently had who have never been up to standard. These guys are all on 50k+ a week, Ljungberg never made over 40k a week while he was here. How on earth do you justify that?

The team were rightfully booed because none of them give a toss. Aside from Chesney, Sagna, Vermaelen, Clichy, Wilshere and RVP how many of them really give a toss about doing well and putting in a shift? The fans pay good money to see them play, and despite all popular belief have never booed them when they can see they are running their hearts out and trying their best.

Arsene knows, but he's not going to do anything about it. Time to stop living off his past glories and take a chance at progressing again, the resources are there thanks to him afterall.

I've said it before, and i'll say it again. I don't hate wenger and am not really on his back. All i can say is although he's a great manager, there is one thing which separates him from someone like fergie. Fergie knows when he's wrong and won't carry on playing the same underperforming p[layer and he will go out and buy. Whereas wenger either doesn't realise or is too stubborn, the quicker this is cut out, the sooner the trophies will come. Please sort is out wenger, we've stuck by you for years, just get rid of the trash, i don't want to see the likes of almunia, denilson, squillaci play for us again, they're not good enough!!!

@Pritpal

First of all you sound like a Man U fan. Any rational Arsenal fan would be educated enough to know that Wenger has had a fraction of the transfer budget that SAF has had over the last 15 years. That's why we moved to the Emirates, on our own dime mind you, in the first place...so we could finally match Man U's spending power. Of course Wenger has made some mistakes with keeping players, but his mistakes are magnified because he can't make superstar buys to cover his ass.

Totaly agree with Dimiti an Pritpal, some of you are talking utter crap. Watching Wenger this season has painfull hes looked like a guy whos just cought his wife having a 90minute affair. As for all this Just missed out on Jones,Friedel Wake up we didnt try to av a shit!! Whats happening with Riki Alvarez I you tubed him he looks the bees nees bet Man city get him. ALEX G im ashamed your an Arsenal fan people boo when witnesing poor below standard performance's i.e our last 5-6 games even stevie wonder could see Eboue,Song etc needed booing and both played a lot better after!! its not in Arsene we trust its in Arsenal we LOVE. Adetrugoon.

So you are ashamed that I am an Arsenal fan, because I think it's shameful that Arsenal fans boo their own team? You believe that the best way for a group of fans to show that they are 100% behind their team is to boo them as soon as things go a bit wrong? That's not loyalty, but the exact opposite. You claim to be an Arsenal fan; what was it you thought was being booed at our lap of honour? That group of players is our team, and as fans it is vital that we support them. Admittedly some of them are not good enough for the squad, and will be leaving. But the whole team was booed, including Sagna, Van Persie, Szczesny, Wilshere, Song, and many other players who have performed brilliantly for the club this season. They were booed too, and players of that qualifier are not going to tolerate remaining at a club where the fans are constantly on their backs for whatever reason. So, please, if you want to boo, fuck off to Tottenham and do it there.

I would never in a million years boo our players but you've got to say I do point out valid points. Yes fergie has had a far superior budget but when he's made poor signings like djemba djemba, bellion and kleberson, he won't continue to play them. I'm no united suporter, support arsenal through thick and thin but you've got to agree thats really the one difference between the two. You guys all see it week in week outwe see denilson, squillaci and almunia play whereas before it was silvestre and co. If wenger cuts this out we will be successful, that's all I'm trying to say, it costs to be stubborn. Also fergie has had a fraction the budget of city and chelsea, does that mean they performed better. Try to see where I'm coming from before ranting, I speak only the truth, as much as it pains me to say it.
