Is Tomas Rosicky Worth Another Arsenal Contract?

There appears to be a split amongst Gooners at the moment that an Olympic gymnast would be very proud of.

So when I pose the question; is Tomas Rosicky worth a new contract at Arsenal? I expect many differences of opinion.

In the past Tomas has frustrated me. Not because I think he is a bad player but because during his time at the club he has spent at least 78% of it in the physio room.

Now forgive me for being vulgar, I don't think he has a bit of crush on anything Gary or Colin Lewin related so that can be ruled out.

So unfortunately for Rosicky, and Arsenal supporters, he isn't love-sick but has actually suffered with bad luck on the injury front.

Which is a shame for Arsenal, Arsene Wenger and us Gooners because, believe it or not, I actually think that he is a fantastic player who offers a lot to our game and not just to our medical bill.

His contract runs out this summer and it's a debatable topic as to whether he deserves another one, here, at the home of football.

If it was up to me then I'd give him another one-year-deal with no questions asked. And not just because I had the same hair-style as him in the mid-90's.

The Czech captain has had a run in the side recently and I have been quite impressed. So much so, I don't think he can be classed as deadwood we need rid of.

Having played for his country 85 times (how?!) he has more experience than one of Wayne Rooney's 'special friends' at his local massage parlour.

That experience (not Rooney's pal's) can only be an asset to Arsenal.

Of course you worry about his injury record. I do too. I mean he's had more problems with his hamstring in the past than Beth Ditto has with a G-string but maybe he is over those problems?

One positive way to look at his past problems is the fact he will not be burnt out will he?

Having had less time on the pitch than most of his peers, at his age, I should imagine Rosicky will be able to play until his late 30's. Maybe even his 60's.

Footballers careers are prolonged these days with various techniques and methods. Perhaps Ryan Giggs could lend Tomas his Yoga teacher for a bit.

But seriously I don't want Rosicky to leave unless a top class replacement was taking his place. I worry that all the sudden he will never be injured again, and those years of Arsenal patching him up would be wasted!

Honestly though I think he is worth another deal at the club. A years contract with a clause that says if his muscles pack up then he'll be sent on loan to Elgin.

NO ,we need fresh new blood now that we can plan the next 5 years with. we cant keep these players on the wage bills. rosicky chamakh squilachi must make way for afobe lansbury and bartley. with the introduction of a top midfielder a good forward and maybe a wild card like hazard. i like rosicky but he has not done anything for arsenal and maybe its due to injury but its a cruel game. theres others that need to move on to a new challenge as well

Complete rubbish? Captain for his country and with over 80 caps. Such a classy player who have been really unlucky with injuries.

who cares about his country. he is not good enough, if he had to play a run of 10 15 games due to injurys to key players we would be in trouble, its our squad thats poor not so much our first choice 11

Rosicky is a special breed, there are only few players of his quality.Considering his injury record, you will agree with me that he always gets better when Arsenal are short of players. And a Rosicky I know is better than Aaron Ramsey any day. This is evident enough as you can see that in our last match that we scored more goals than when Ramsey played.Keep Thomas as you will keep Silva,Modric, etc because these are players in his mould.
KEEP THE FAITH!

ramsey and rosicky are differnet players, ramsey is not played in his ideal position and rosicky has also probably never been played in his ideal attackin midfield position but what would you rather rosicky for another year and a 20 mill profit again or hazard? or goetze, this should be where were looking

i cant forgive rosicky for trying to cross the ball from a shooting position against fulham, he is fine when the team is playing well but one of the players who takes no responsibility and steps up when times are tough.

No goals, rarely an assist , lots of nice little turns and a run or two that rarley produce anything , a player who once had a bullet of a shot now cannot hit the proverbial barn door . He has had his chance , albeit interrupted by injuries , there must be a more productive and effective midifelder out there !

i'd give him a yr's contract.xavi became a star very late cuz he gained a lot of experience over the years and iniesta..fresh blood is necessary but who shows them how to excape bad tackles and when t pic up the right weighted pass.maybe the boss shoes them on the training ground but what of in a game when things are really difficult.the experienced players come in at this point.

The real question isn't so much about what he's done in the past, but what he brings for the future. As his health has improved, so has his game. He also brings a needed element of maturity. Just as important, he's not a prima donna and understands that his greatest value to the team is coming off the bench as an impact player, and also filling in on starts when somebody is injured without a big drop in quality. This is a no-brainer, he's more than worth another contract.

he has never made an impact as a sub from what i can remember

Definitely worth another year as a squad player. He's got masses of experience & has played very well this season.

its not that i dont like tom but i think he needs to go find a last big payday. someone who will give him a 2 or 3 year deal. we need to make space in the squad and cut the wage bill because 40mill a year more than spurs is not a good look especially when its being used on the like of rosicky and diaby. players who have no real impact. cut the squad by 5 or 6 fringe players, promote a couple youngsters and bring in 3 or 4 players who will actually up the quality and competition in the squad. so its a no from me. ramsey is a good squad player, rosicky is ambitionless if life on the bench is the way to see out his career considering he is not that old yet

Absolutely agree. A great player with a bad health bill until last year.. who've been in surprisingly good health this year. Could be compared to RVP. Though they are not in the same league, they have both suffered perenial injuries during their Arsenal carreer, and both seem to have found their renewed youth in the last year. I don't think we have that much to lose in offering him another contract. And his contribution this year has been good. Better late than never!

One year deal, if he accepts, would be ideal.

I would definitely offer him another contract, I think he's quality. He knows when to push, when to hold, he has the experience we would otherwise be lacking. Song, Wilshere and Ramsey are great prospects but they do need guys with experience around them. Look at Arteta, he's been such a great addition to the team and a lot of that comes down to the fact that he has years of experience in the game.

@Danish gooner, i jst hope u are a real gooner fan nt spud fan. Talking about injuries, dnt forget that the man all gooners fans are asking to extend his contract is also injury prone (RVP), jst last year till now wish he manage to to play over 50 games for the club. I honestly would like my little mozat to be there till retirement. some are saying we shuld get rid of him, y? Becus of lansbury, afobe that can't even get a start @ there club wich they were loan to, pls this mozat is a world class mozat and he deserve to be a Gooner till retirement......

mozart my ass, he is just a squad player that would not really be missed! no one notices him when he is not playing.

Anonymous said...

What the hell man ! Have you ever watched a match ?

Anonymous said...

well, I always thought he was going to be a good player, had a couple of bullit goals in the early days, but then injury after injury, which you gotta say isnt his fault. BUt in recent months he has been a really good squad player, he breaks the balll up from the oposition well, and usualkly finds a good pas, or seems to have very quick set off pace all of a sudden and can often leave the oposition for dead over a short sprint, he's better the devil you know as they say, so I say give him a 1 year deal without question!

Rosicky is CRAP.... agaianst Man u at Old Trafford was him at his best...doing nothing and not bothered...recently he has picked up but that is only because he knows his conract will be...he should get lost along with

Arahavin
Diaby
Mertsacker
Chamakh
Walcott
Schillaci

The one that commented before me here is a real jerk. There is no fucking way in heaven you're a gooner.

The experience, stamina, pace, speed, vision, touch and stuff that Tomas offers should see us begging for him to sign another contract - by the fact that he is willing to give 100% even though he comes on after 77 minutes or whatever. When Ramsey gets the ball in midfield, he searches for a sideway pass to arteta or back to the defenders. Tomas gets the ball, makes an instant turn and looks for a player on the run on 7/10 occacions.. I just pray to god he gets to start tomorrow night.

Give Tomas AT LEAST 1 year. .... AT LEAST!

Rosicky was rubbish tonight...really rubbish. As was the rest of the midfield, not willing to dig in or take the lead...Ox, Wilshere, Frimpong, Song..they'll give 100% and fight

Arik...so to be a Gooner one has to applaud all the crap that goes on and not say nothing?...as we speak the team have just lost to Sunderland and the team was SHIT again and i suppose you will say no they weren't it was just a blip...you are not a true gooner you just a Wenger brown nose

Anonymous said...

Yes,he definitely deserves it.. look at how he did recently.. wow.. he's been absolutely amazing.. anyway,if arsenal does get rid of him.. who do you think will replace him?? Aaron Ramsey???????? OH NO!! u've got to be kidding me!! An unfit rosicky even plays better than Ramsey.. only jack wilshere can replace him.. and i think Rosicky will be a very good back up or squad player.. so it's YES for me.

So is Rosicky still utter rubbish?

Anonymous said...

He's always been my favorite player at Arsenal. I always knew he'd eventually come good...

I thought I made my point clear. He is the best we have at this point. Why the hell should we ge rid of him?
