Keep Gallas, keep Toure AND then sign Micah Richards

Kolo Toure is once again being linked with a lucrative move to Manchester City. I have no problem with this as much as my mate has a BO problem.

Manchester City will be linked with everyone this summer from Kolo Toure and the Pope. Pay no attention to it. Its as boring as my blue pants.

Of course the story has history. In January I heard that Kolo had moved his gear from his Arsenal locker to Manchester but then I also heard that Harry Redknapp doesn't take bungs. Its shit.

Whats even more shit is that when I read about this rumour it always sparks off the usual debate between Gooners that Arsenal should sell Gallas rather than Toure. Why?

Why not keep both? I actually think that Gallas is the better player by far and is Arsenal's best defender. That is just my opinion.

However, surely there is room for both in the squad? And another signing. They are both under six foot after all.

Why don't we keep both and sign a player who is actually a self-confessed Gooner? Micah Richards is young and humongously talented.

Yes he has gone off the boil over the last twelve months but maybe a move to Arsenal would rejuvenate him more than that Egyptian fella from the Mummy.

Wenger is the man for such a move. He has rejuvenated more players than Nivea anti-aging cream. Richards would be a sensation at Arsenal and whats more, he is English.

I don't care what nationality a player is at Arsenal as long as he does the business. He could be an alien from Mars for all I care. But I admit having more English players could be good for Arsenal.

The main reason being that it might, just might, keep those wanky tosspots of a so-called English media off our backs for ten minutes.

Keep it Goonerish............

keep them both and after two games on the bench like earlier in the season kolo will be handin in another transfer request or if its gallas on the bench he will put another chapter in his book

james said...

stupid article why keep both and buy and one,What so one can keep the bench warn we already have Djourou idiot.

Anonymous said...

Richards would be an ok signing but why can't we but a defender who is actually in the mould of adams, Bould, Campbell etc big and strong?? We keep buying small defenders and if it's true about Vermulaen then we will have bought another one who is under 6 ft. we all know we need a tall big ball winner there in defence and a decent midfielder to play along Cesc Fabregas. Out with Denilson, Song, Diaby, Bendtner and Adebayor. A decent Goalkeeper wouldn't go a miss either whilst i am at it as Almunia is nowhere near as good as Seaman or Lehmann!!

Anonymous said...

I am assuming we have already got Vermaelen. So keeping Toure would be hard (lets be honest, Gallas is better than him and we would not play 11 mil for a back up defender) so we are likely to sell one of the two - Toure would be the one to let go.

But I would not watch Richards. If we can get him as part of the deal, why not? But I think we are more likely to get Sakho from PSG in a SIlvestre - Sakho swap deal.

Can you have Gallas, Vermaelen, Sakho, Richards and Djourou? I think we are better off with Sakho or Richards and Sakho is a better prospect.

Song can always fill in.

Anonymous said...

Anon 20:57 - we don't need players who are "big and strong" we need defenders who can defend. Somethong which Toure struggles with nowadays.

Gallas has been our best defender this season and managed to make Toure look good since November, so why not sign a player to compliment him.

And Vermaelen is around 6'1 according to the Mirror (haha)

let almuniaaa go please he no good get a real goalieee and get richards thanks

Richards has been a bit of a bum this last year, but he clearly has potential and is a Gooner through and through.

Plus, we all know Wenger likes projects.

Regardless of who is in and out this summer, Arsne needs to hire a first team coach to focus on the defense.

Anonymous said...

Yes lets but a new drfender, keep Toure and he can be our new defensive midfielder

I like this blog. When I get the chance to go to a game, my mate always asks if I have read it.

I dont think that either one will be a bench player, I dont think much of Richards either. He should be a right back. Maybe as cover, however, Sagna is very good.

I agree Gallas is better, but, Toure is an Arsenal player. I like him.

I think this Vermaelen story could be true, so I ant see Richards coming now anyway.

COME ON THE GUNNERS

Unknown said...

u right, dont sell either kolo or william, look at Italy - palermo and buy simon poulsen before Juve snatch him for nothing

Anonymous said...

We need new blood in defence. Losing Gallas & Toure is ok by me because their record in the last 2 seasons is worse than any other top 4 team in the prem. Micah richards could flourish under Wenger. Vermuelen is class and despite being 5"11 can jump higher than Gallas&Kolo put together.

Spike said...

I really dont see Gallas and Kolo both staying. I think Vermaelen is a replacement for 1 of em. If that is the case, then I would hope Gallas stays, purely as he is by far the better CB. Then we need to sign 1 more CB, whether thats a young one like Sakho or Richards, or a more experienced fella like Carvahlo or hangeland??? Who knows?

Anonymous said...

Almunia has to go. Arsenal deserve na world class goalkeeper. Funny you don't see him threatening to leave!! Before we usher anyone out the door, remember how many injuries we get each season. Also, rotation keeps the players competitive and fresh enough to fight in all 4 competitions

Anonymous said...

Richards, if he only had a brain!

Seriously, he might be a monster athlete, but he's clueless as a central defender. And who is going to teach him how to defend, Wenger...?

Add to that he's a little fella at 5'10 or whatever and his poor attitude, taste for the night life and the odd roasting..

Don't think he's what's needed on or off the pitch.

If we need english players for the coming quota, then just pay over the odds for Lescott or Upson. I'd prefer Gary Cahill to Richards, he reads the game well and has presence on the pitch.

The player we should really get (in addition to or instead of Verm) is Zapata. He is already one of the best defenders in Italy and while their are certainly areas where he needs to improve, he is a big guy who isn't afraid to put himself about and has speed, quickness and is aggressive in closing down the ball. He distributes the ball well (unlike our defenders save Djourou and Song) and can also join the attack.

Watch his match against Argentina. Impressive performance. He'll probably go to Milan, Inter or Barca though - too bad as we've spent to much on the Verminator.

Check out these pictures of him up against Ibra:

Vermaelen can also play left back so would more likely replace Gallas

Spike said...

We should sign the entire Stoke City squad... They're all effin hunge!!!

That'll work.

Anonymous said...

defo keep both richards would be good if we get him on the cheap cover at right back for sagna. Also what is it wtih you mupets going on about almunia? you seriously haven't got a clue. Is he world class? no. Is he a reliable keeper? Yes. Thats all that matter manuel has pulled our asses out of the fire plenty of times since he has been no.1. Yea he doesnt dominate his area like a seaman or lehmann but lehmann was prone to stupid errors that luckily didnt cost us too many games. At the end of the day why buy a new keeper when we need to stregthen defense, midfield and upfront? sort it out people.

Zapata is very good. Captain of a good Udinese side. Plays against much, much better players on a weekly basis than Vermaelen as the Dutch no longer have a top league. They are well below not only the likes of Germany and France, but probably the Russian league as well...

If Zapata is willing to join us, we should spend the money it will take to get him. We need a defender as good or better than Gallas and Toure to form a new partnership with whichever one stays.

Richards should go somewhere where he can figure out if he's a right back or a central defender and where a coach can work to improve his many deficiencies - maybe Wigan, Blackburn or Bolton? But none of those teams will want to take on his inflated wages...

Richards is a gooner, but perhaps he could go to Pompey and re-start his career... hear they pay good wages. Otherwise, could see him ending up at sp*rs...

Anonymous said...

A Dutch journo has said that we will sign Vermaelen on Talk SPort.

Anonymous said...

Zapata is a class act. But we should keep Toure and Gallas. Now, no need to get emotional about Almunia. I think he is probably a nice guy. But he is constantly ranked 8 - 10 in stats for the premiership. Guess who are ranked 1,2,3. Reina, Van de Sar and Cech. And those three teams have been above us over the last few years. No good bringing in world class defenders if the keeper is suspect

Wrighty7 said...

So James, is Wenger an idiot for 'apparently' wanting that Belgian fella then mate?

Arsenal need as many at the back as we can get!

Keown's_Fury said...

@ Spike:

Who is recommending signing the Stoke squad?

There are tall CBs who can play, you've probably heard of a lot of them Ferdinand, Vidic, Skertl, Agger, Carragher, Terry.

What central defenders under 6' foot have done well recently in english football...Gallas and Toure, but they don't complement each other and both have had their best runs with taller players (Campbell, Terry and Senderos). So why buy another short one to partner them?

This isn't Spain or Italy where little guys like Ayala and Cannavaro have had tremendous success.

I will fully back Vermaelen and wish him the best if he does arrive, but we need a truly dominate, world-class central defender - haven't heard any of his Dutch or Flemish supporters class the Verm as such...

And yes Zapata does look very good...

Wrighty7 said...

Cheers Brdgunner

Spike said...

Zapata will go to Inter or AC MIlan...

Keown's_Fury said...

@ Wrighty - we have quantity, need a truly outstanding CB - an upgrade over either Toure or Gallas - one of them should leave.

CBs
1. Gallas/Toure
2. Zapata or Lescott
3. Vermaelen
4. Djourou
5. Song

Adieu Mikael...

Wright7 the chance of you having a mate in the first place is ludicrously small, or in layman's terms, around about the same size as your lunch box.

Wrighty7 said...

Keown's Fury,

I understand that mate but I reckon by the time Xmas is around it wouldn't surprise me that despite the quantity available, we will still be struggling for numbers at the back.

If Vermaelen is dominant, aerially and in the challenge, being SIX FOOT ONE FFS! wont be such a hindrance to him will it?

Carragher, Jagielka, BTW are about the 5'11" as well...

Gallas and Kolo had a very good spell this season, in fact apart from the beginning of the season when gallas went nutz and after he got injured, the defense was pretty solid with Kolo abd gallas.

I would have reservations IF the new CB wasnt a strong competitor, who was happy to stick his head in where it hurts, was strong in the challenge, had good timing, and reading of the game, apparantly this Veraelen has all these attributes, but lets go on and on and on and ariston about him being short and whine about us signing some fella from Italy...

Anonymous said...

Don't think Wenger is going to sign another defender after Vermaelen arrives.

And the problem with letting Silvestre leave is that if Gallas departs and Toure stays, we'd be down to three CBs during the ANC (Toure and Song off) and that is too dangerous... but maybe for a month Sagna could become 4th choice with Bartley as the emergency option...

Wrighty7 said...

You are probably right anon 22:08. Totally agree mate!

Hopefully Vermaelen can deliver, but he ain't 6'1.

Moreover, he has a pretty slight frame.

Hopefully, his anger/aggression can make up for it - Flamini style.

First choice pairing will be Gallas or Toure (one of them is leaving) & our record defensive signing Vermaelen. Djourou and Song are second choice so long as Wenger doesn't opt for the "experience" the dreadful Silvestre provides. The problem is that if Gallas leaves and Toure stays - we will loose Toure and Song midseason with only Vermaelen, Djourou and Silvestre remaining as recognized CBs.

Spike said...

Almunia has been better than average this season. Very consistent and for me, is better than vander sar. The fact he has Rio/Vidic infront of him is probably why his stats are good.

Almunia is good enough and has saved us many times this season.

Shit, some people are like effin robots, they get an opinion on a player and NO MATTER WHAT, regardless of all the evidence, changes in form and performances and consistency, these sheep STILL slate...

Idiots, spoon fed media labotamy experiments...

Love how everybody's going on about Zapata as though they already knew anything more than what's been written about him since the "stories" linking us with him surfaced last week. Where did all the Brede Hangeland love go? He's a big old lump who's not embarassingly slow, he's physical and he can play a bit. In other words, exactly who we all hoped Senderos would be and isn't. If Vermaelen comes we're proper effed. 5 "11 is simply not tall enough and God knows we don't need another "cultured" footballer knocking it around and trying to take people on around the edge of the box. Bottom line, we need to get taller and stronger and and play a bit more old-fashioned Row Z type football at the back. Vermaelen and Richards are the last thing we need to achieve that.

Spike said...

That is hilarious!

Slating people for goin on about a defender they dont know on about, then doin it yourself about the vermaelen fella! You clearly no even less about the belgian than those chattin about the Colombian!

How fuckin funny is that????

The internet....what an invention!

Anonymous said...

Spike are you sure you're not Almunia's mum or are you speaking on behalf other a north London team that shall remain nameless. The stats are the facts and are plain and simple. Almunia not good enough. Clean sheets and not conceding in the 89 minute are what wins premiership titles

Spike said...

Baaaaaa!

Stats are stats? Is that your argument? If he was at fault for the majority of the goals then fair enough, but apart from2 mistakes, that I can recall, he has been consistent as fuck... having a leaky defence at times, aint been a help has it?

Ooh, but stats are stats... whatever statto

Unknown said...

I stand corrected by the inspired judge who suggested we sign the entire Stoke squad!! Daft as your point was, I assume the logic behind it was the need to get taller and more efficient at dealing with more physical, direct oppostion. With Toure standing only 6 "0 and Gallas 6 "1 it's tough to imagine a 5 "11 CB helping us out a whole lot against Crouch, Carew and Drogba. What all we gooners have been whingeing about all year is the lack of a big commanding presence at the centre of the back four. If Vermaelen's that, God bless him. What I do know is that for all the great players Wenger's brought to the club in the last 12 years, he's alway had an absolute blind spot when it comes to signing and developing central defenders. Better we get the more or less finished article - again, someone of the age and experience of Hangeland. Is that opinion alright with you, Spikey boy??

Anonymous said...

Although I have never seen Vermaelen, I have come to the conclusion that a player who is 5'10,5'11,6'0 or 6'1 is WAY too small. He is also average and not good enough. But Zapata, who is 6'2 and more than tall enough, is a fantastic player, even though I have never seen him.

What I would say is that Hangeland is also good because he never got beaten for a header in his career because he is 6'4.

Anonymous said...

Hangeland admitted he didn't know how he would do in a less-defensive side than Fulham. They really work hard to close down the ball all over the pitch and play with a holding player who operates so far back, he's almost a third center back. So how he would do in our system is debatable.

Anonymous said...

Sell Toure.
Then we get Richards.
Then we should buy Zapata for the backline too (i watched the Serie A a lot last season and this guy is really great).
For DM Matuidi and i think we would be good.
Maybe we should buy this Ajax defender as well.
And if Ade leaves we should go for Chamakh.

i think your right, and everyboyd who says that what the point in keeping them both and buying someone else, thats a good idea, becuase if we wont to win the league we need depth in our squad, how many times have we been let down at the back this season?

Get Zapata and Inler from Udinese, get hazard and Cabaye from Lille, get Richards as part exchange from Toure to city, and finish it off with Huntelaar from the proceeds of adebayor sale and Dzeko and Yohann Pele from proceeds of Van Persie sale to Inter(now before the RVP lovers jump on my back, consider this whats the use of having a player who wont sign a contract with less than 2 years on his contract and is always injured).plus weve just signed Vermaelen.

KEEP THE REST OF THE SQUAD

Bring back Jay Simpson
Bring back Traore
Expect more games from Eduardo
Expect more games from Rosicky

IF Eduardo and Rosicky not fit and ready for pre-season then:

Buy another Striker
Buy another Creative midfielder

JOB DONE

We will have a more balanced team with dare I say it 4 Englishmen (if Wilshere gets the nod then make that 5) and a Welshman and a Spaniard eligible to play for England.

FFS, will people stop going on about Vermaelen's height.

Cygan and Stepanovs were over 6ft, did that make them good? Likewise if you are under 6ft that doesn't maker you a bad defender.

Do you think that extra one inch is going to make much difference? If you have good positional sense and a good leap then it's no problem. Look at Cannavaro and Puyol...

Anonymous said...

Gallas is definitely a better defender than Toure. He commands his backline better, reads the play better. I personally think that Toure has to make too many sliding tackles or goal saving blocks. This may seem effective, but the problem is he lets them get into that position in the first place. A Gallas and Vermaelen/Zapata CB pairing in my opinion would be very effective.

spot on wrighty,we have to keep kolo and willy, buy the belgian if he is 5'11 or 6'1 and keep all the others in defence.

"Anon 20:57 - we don't need players who are "big and strong" we need defenders who can defend."

Correct!!

Micah Richards is Kolo Toure lite.

You should watch Stewart Robson's analysis of Richards's defending. Basically, he has virtually no positional sense but he makes up for many of his mistakes by being very quick to recover - just like Kolo. Much better to get a defender who knows how to defend.

Anonymous said...

I am not sure about Micah. It seems like he has lost focus and we all know what happened to Pennant and Bentley at Arsenal; they were not focused and professional enough, so they was let go. I don't know if everything about Micah is true though, but I am sceptical.

Anonymous said...

Gallas or Toure will leave - one of them.

Gallas because he hasn't updated his website for months and has been extraordinarily quiet - smells fishy.

If Gallas stays, Toure will leave, because Toure will not sit on the bench behind Vermaelen and Gallas. He asked to leave last December when he was dropped and will not sit on the bench for anyone.

Hopefully, Gallas will stay, Vermaelen will join - and Arsenal will buy another top class centre back with the Toure money.

dush, being tall gives you advantage in the air, it doesn't make you win duels. Good marking, being agressive and alert and take the best position is much more important. Everyone who has ever played football will admid that. The only thing to worry about is that he has a lack of experience at high level, but i'm sure arsenal knew that and have thought about all this. I think he'll be good.

Also the many goals we have conceded has more to do with our playing style than the quality of our backs or goalkeeper, we're playing on the attack, so we give away a lot of space at our defence, so they can score much easier.

9.) Similarly, chat rooms also offer different incentives. Some chat rooms offer free game for playing and chatting for certain number of hours on their site. Some offer incentives for referring friends to their site. Such incentives offer extra chances to play and therefore, more chances for winning a game of online bingo. You also get to enjoy bingo games for longer periods.

You have to mark all numbers in any given pattern or combination like diagonal, vertical, horizontal or a total blackout by marking all numbers in your card. The game stops as soon as any single player calls out 'bingo' after completing any particular combination or pattern. Thereafter, a new game ensues.

If you do not know anyone who uses the gaming sites or you want some additional reinforcement your first port of call should be an online bingo community. By reading reviews by other people who use the Bingo sites, you will be able to get a feel for the different sites that exist and make a more qualified decision about which one you would like to use. The knowledge concerning different sites and what other users consider important about them is an invaluable tool for the new online Bingo player. Whether it is for fun or for money, there needs to be an element of integrity within the site and a potential for the player to win the game. The knowledge of other users concerning specific sites will tell the new online Bingo player whether the site is for real or is just masquerading in order to harvest the players email addresses in order to bombard them with spam, or worse con them out of their hard earned cash. This can all be avoided with research and trying before you buy, as mentioned earlier the best places to scope out bingo sites is by using a review site or Bingo members forum.

Bingo is a beautiful game of luck, which involves patience, rapid coordination between hearing and searching out the numbers and lots of fun. As with all gambling bingo is totally addictive and you should be careful of its grip on you!

Everything about horse betting

We came across an article on ESPN.com written by Bill Finley entitled "2005 was a lousy year for horse racing." In his article Mr. Finley cites 9 reasons why 2005 was such a bad year for horse racing in America. Although we agree with several of his observations, number 8 on his list, "U.S. Pari-Mutuel Handle Falls", should have been dealt with more objectively.
