John Terry and Wayne Rooney should take a leaf from David Beckham's book!

I always thought that David Beckham was a class act and my opinion of him has risen even higher after his comments about Eduardo.

'There has been far too much talk about diving,'

'No-one wants to see it and it is disappointing when it happens. But it happens every week and Eduardo is not the first person to have done it.

'The whole thing should be put to bed.'

'Eduardo is a great player. It is not that long ago that he suffered an horrific injury.
'You don't know what was going through his mind. He might have been trying to get out of the way of a tackle so he didn't get injured again.'

Beckham has taken a lot of stick in the past and I've no doubt that he will receive more in the future but nobody can deny that he is a great ambassador for England and football.

People like Wayne Rooney and John Terry could learn a lot from David Beckham. The pair sat in front of the English media and spoke so much shite it was unbelievable.

I pissed my pants at the hypocrisy of John Terry and I cried real tears at Wayne Rooney's attempts to talk down his diving in the past.

Yes, Eduardo went down easy! But hasn't Rooney gone down easily TWICE in the space of a week? I must be bloody blind if he aint!

Beckham has spoke the truth and I praise him for what he has had to say on the situation. He may not be everyone's cup of tea but he is the first English player to come out with something that is very true.

Not like a certain Mr Terry or a Mr Rooney.

The story should be put to bed. If it isn't then Wayne Rooney's diving should get the same coverage. Shamefully it won't be.

Keep it Goonerish...............

Spot on Wrighty. I think Beckham is perhaps the only English player out there with the foresight to see that the whole thing is getting ridiculous and unfair and while the media (and certain players) are a bunch of classless clowns incapable of an independent or unbiased thought David Beckham isn't and remembers the fact that he's trained at Arsenal in the past and he's a guy who knows how to respect his fellow professionals.

You see, the big difference is that with Rooney vs Arsenal, is that there was clear, undeniable contact. There is plenty of video evidence to support that. As for the England game, reputable sources such as the Guardian said it was not a dive (nor do I feel it was a penalty ) and that Rooney was reacting to what he anticipated as a foul called on him. Clearly you chose this Beckham story to suit your own needs, but did it occur to you that he might want to put the diving thing to bed as it would serve to spur on Croatia???

Second, this trend to bring out petty club hatred when England is facing a vital match is so sad. Eduardo plays for Arsenal, but also for Croatia, so if he dives on Wednesday, or cheats in some other fashion, will you be torn as how to react???

Exactly Marko.

People say Beckham is thick. I don't think so. John Terry and Wayne Rooney are like a couple of caveman compared to him!

If Walcott had been up there with Rooney and Terry, saying the same things, what would you have said then?? It is easy to jump on Terry and Rooney when your club has precious few Englishmen isn't it??

Wrighty7 said...

Ok mate, but there is plenty of video evidence that shows Rooney was already going down BEFORE any contact was made.

If Almunia pulled his arms out of the way then we would have seen quite clearly that Rooney had dived.

Beckham in eyes is just an honest professional. He has spoke the truth and that is more than what Rooney and Terry have done.

If Eduardo does do anything like that then I will be very disappointed.

I ask the same question back if Rooney does something similar?

Wrighty7 said...

If Walcott had said that English players don't dive because they are "honest" I'd have called him a liar and if Walcott had said he tried playing fair despite having dived several times in his career I'd call him a liar again.

If Rooney ever dives in such a blatant way as Eduardo did, I would be ashamed. I admit that in the past he has been guilty, and I did not like it one bit.

How did you feel when Eduardo did it against Celtic??

Becks has done some pretty stupid things in his career, and saying this does not make him a saint, and I say that as a United supporter.
I will comment on Ronaldo before others do, I hated that he was a cheat, and was glad to see him go, he was a shame to the United shirt.

Anonymous said...

Year Terry is the biggest diver he dived before he took the penalty in the CL final.

Anonymous said...

You are right. It was a shame when Terry said English players don't dive. What about when Ronney won a penalty against Sol Cambell years back in what seems like diving to end the Arsenal's unbeaten ran. What about his recent penalty?

The press should report rather concentrate on the injustic Arsenal faced at Old Traford when the raferee even though was few meters aways did not see the Fletcher foul.

Anonymous said...

Why are all your examples about United Vs Arse?? Have Arsenal players never cheated??????

Anonymous said...

This is to the anonymous Man Utd Fan

Ronaldo was a disgrace to your shirt? Yeah fair enough he did go down to easy and intentionally dive at times.. But lets face it 07/08 season he single handedly won it for you! he gave the old trafford faithful moments other teams could only dream for (except us of course because we had TH14)

And lets face it the boy is a class act, I've seen his training videos where he puts 4.5kg weights around his ankles and trains for 2 hours solid. He was a pure professional and always performed when he put on a utd shirt, albeit it that he did get greedy and try and go solo from time to time.

So for you to say he's a disgrace to the utd shirt, well clearly your eyes have been fim=rmly shut for the past 6 years.

big up the becks

couldnt agree more, becks just moved up on my ranking of respected footballers

I give up on bias reporting in England. When Arsenal suffers injustice (players legs broken- Eduardo, Diaby) when in Games players play only to commit fouls and some refs don't see them.

This will go round and round in circles. Eduardo dived as did Eboue and Pires in the past. Just as Rooney , Van Nistelroy and Ronaldo do/did. No one has the moral high ground, Beckham is right time to let it go.

Wrighty7 said...

To be truthful I felt embarrassed!

But what embarrasses me more is the fact that if you believed the English media then you would have thought that Eduardo practically invented diving!

I just can't believe that he has been dug out like this!

want a great example of diving check this out,and then tell me English players don't dive!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1GKXAKQY-0Y

This isn't the first time a player from a big club would be made an example of, Rio and the drugs test issue, Rooney and Scholes with the red card incident in pre-season, you live with.

You're quoting Beckham, but you conveniently ignored the first part of his quote that said, its happens everytime, so people should forget about it and move on, when will Arsenal fans and the press do the same? Or do you only use parts of Beckham's quotes that suit you.

Man utd fan: Yeah Becks is spot on. I feel bad when anyone dives. I felt a bit embarrassed with pen on saturday, i think Rooney did too.
I think it was Pires against Portsmouth??? a shocking dive that was almost funny. Now any Arsenal fan can't feel good about that, can you imagine someone doing it to you? Also against Celtic, you have to feel for the Celtic lads.
I know i've felt bad with some of the pens given to Man Utd.
But the worst for me, and is getting worse is Stevie G. Awful stuff.
Anyone else notice this over the last few seasons???

Responses to a few out there:

Is Rooney a diver? No, even though he has done it.

Do you drink? Does that make you an alcoholic?

Ronaldo spent plenty of time not tracking back, sitting on his ass when he felt he was fouled. He squandered plenty of chances due to selfish play. I fully admit his contribution, but we did make him the focus. I believe we will be more of a real "team" now that he has gone.

To Wrighty, Respect, your views are fair and balanced, which is refreshing to see.

I am a man utd fan and I think beckham is right . it looks like they are making a scapegoat out of eduardo. Other players have done the same and rooney is no exception and others should also be punished the same way. but if they are, there will soon be no more players left to play :)

only difference between rooney an eduard over the last couple weeks is profeesional level, rooney a very pro diver, eduardo just very amatuerish diving, its the refs fault for being in a shit position more than anything

well I agree that terry and rooney should take a leaf from david beckham's book as righty says but may be so should arsene wenger?

good on old golden balls, but all I know is I fucking hate international week. I need proper football. this is shit so early in the season.

Yeah mate, we all noticed Gerrard diving, and plenty others besides. (I name no names, they're familliar enough!). But only Eduardo gets hanged for it. Why is that, I ask? Maybe coz he plays for arsenal, who the media don't like. Or maybe because he's croatian. Or maybe coz the arsenal dared to piss on poor little celtic's fireworks. But take the same action against st Stevie G? Naah, he's english, remember? And plays for the media darlings liverpool. And, he's snow white, don't you know?

Anonymous said...

@Luke; Yeah definately right. St Steve. Just watched that youtube clip of him diving...sooo funny..Also getting off smashing that guy head in on camera! Can you imagine if that was Theo, or Rooney! all hell would have broken loose.
What do you think?

Anonymous said...

I think Theo would've broke his own knuckles on matey's jaw and Rooney would've done him in one. I also reckon Theo would've got two yr for it and Rooney would've walked away smelling of roses..

i think this stuff is all just stupidity now its been nearly 3 weeks and people are still talking about it GROW UP! ok becks has a very good point but its just a shame to see that people like rooney, terry, talking about HONESTY and not admitting they've done it in the past and what makes me angry is that all this proof is in front of the eyes of the english fans and the media but they always seem to skip it or black it out!!!

Ronaldo, Rooney, Gerarrd, Drogba, they all constantly dive but nobody wants to say anything especially the media, why didnt gerarrd get banned last season when diving at athletico madrid to win a penalty and win the game, I HATE UEFA and THE FA,
ITS TIME ARSENAL FANS MADE THEIR VOICES LOUD AND CLEAR IF THESE PRICKS WONT DROP THE MATTER!!! SIMPLE AS

Eduardo dived in the same way as rooney, in that he anticipated contact. The difference is, Almunia wasn't as savvy as Boruc, and gave rooney something to fall on to, making it visually a grey area, and allowing the bandwagoners to bang on about cheating foreigners.

As for Beckham, he's always been a class act. Much as I hated that great utd team, he was always my fave non arsenal player (i saw his debut and thought he was special then), and was chuffed when glenda hoddle finally picked him. He's be no means perfect, but he's played and won things with possibly the 3 biggest teams in europe (each of which he specifically targeted as ambitions), captained his country, won over a hundred caps, married a pop star (just about!), been accepted by all social classes, been a good father and family man and a positive role model, arranged free football schools for thousands of kids paid for by himself and become one of the most famous and beloved people on the planet, while all the time basically seeming like a nice bloke, and invariably winning over anyone that has doubted him professionally. Its incredible what he's done, and yet there's always bloody sniping from the press and the chattering classes because they secretly resent that a determined working class boy with little education but talent, looks and hard work has achieved so much and thus is a reflection of their own sense of failure.

The man is a global icon for good reason, and yet he always retains a degree of respect for those around him. I just wish he'd grown up an arsenal fan!

I'll suggest why Rooney, Gerrard, Drogba et al don't get tugged over their antics. Vested interests, (esp sky, they got a chunk of mutd's grubby shares), and the arsenal don't play the media game and deprive them of their influence, and they hate us for it. I haveta agree tho, this feeding frenzy has gone on long enough. Time to let it go. (And to piss 'em off even more by stomping man city into the dirt saturday!)

Davi said...

Its time for *the media* to let go of their attacks on eduardo. Arsenal fans shouldn't let it go, so it doesn't happen again.
I say continue to point out all the inconsistencies and hypocrisies.
Criticize eduardo, criticize eboue but make sure they don't forget to notice when rooney, gerrard or barry dive as well (he also clearly attempted a dive at the weekend).
Hopefully eventually they will take us seriously.
The Graham poll thing is disgusting.
How can you see that and think that english players are going to be treated fairly? If referees have these sorts of thoughts in their minds, how can they be objective when giving decisions? (i know hes retired now, but you'd be naive to think active refs dont think along the same lines, and have these pressures)

WE FELT THE SAME WAY YOU DID WHEN ROONEY DIVED IN UNITED VS ARSENAL GAME....AND LATER IN INTERNATIONAL DUTY!!! AND THE SAME WAY AS EDUARDO!! BLATANT!!! ARE F*** KIDDING ME BRO?! DID U SEE HOW HE GOT THE DEFENDER INJURED COUPLE OF DAYS AGO AND HES THE ONE WHO GOT THE PENALTY!! HE WAS HOLDING THE DEFENDER'S SHIRT, HE TACKLED THE DEFENDER AND GOT HIM INJURED AND WAS REWARED WITH A PENALTY!!! HOW BLATANT IS THAT? DON'T BE AN IDIOT..OK EDUARDO DIVED SO WHAT?? DO ANYONE MAKE A F*** BIG DEAL WHEN RONALDO, ROONEY, AND EVEN GERARD DIVE? DID ANYONE SAY ANYTHING WHEN BABEL DIVED AND GOT PENALTY IN SEMI FINALS IN CL VS ARSENAL AT ANFIELD??!! DID ANYF**BODY SAY ANYF** WORD WHEN ROONEY DIVED BACK IN 2004 AGAINST ARSENAL IN FA?
here are some quotes from GREAT ROONEY
"I'd NEVER take dive. I'd like to think of myself as an honest player. That's the way I play. I don't like diving, football doesn't need it."
SEE!! MAN U PLAYERS ARE FULL OF S****
AND WITH ALL DO RESPECT MOST ENGLISH PLAYER ARE FULL OF S**
LIKE TERRY AND GERRARD
YEAH RIGHT "THEY DON'T DIVE!"
B.S. BROTHER
PEACE OUT

I read a little bit of this thread and I didn't seem to see anything about Eboue's dive in the Man U vs Arsenal game, I'm pretty sure this was 100x more a dive than Rooney what Rooney did, I agree he was going down already, but dont think he would have done if contact wasn't going to be made.

Anonymous said...

ok gooners - i shall say this only once - eduardo did not dive. don't be misled by the hysterical media bandwagon. read the sober, considered view of Patrick Barclay of The Times.

Anonymous said...

regarding eboue - the ref's job is to punish fouling - after you've been kicked up in the air half a dozen times and the ref takes no action - you have no other option than to dive or risk being sriously injured. if anyone out there dares to disagree with on this please arrange to meet me so i can repeatedly kick you in the shins with the force of a professional footballer and we will see how long it takes you to change your position.

For whatever reason, people are under the false impression that Arsenal fans are defending Eduardo for "diving". I put "diving" in quotes because I still remain unconvinced that he dove but thats another matter...

Arsenal fans were the first to condemn him. Look at any popular Arsenal blog you can find and you'll see that us fans were the first to react negatively to what happened. What irritates us is the disproportionate media condemnation, UEFA wetting their pants over this issue and everyone all of a sudden picking on Eduardo. That blows. He doesn't deserve this sort of treatment neither does Arsenal.

We all like a clean game. If Eduardo actually cheated against England, I'd be furious. After weeks of defending him, that'd be a really poor way to repay us. I'm confident that he'd never but for those idiots questioning our bias, we like a clean game...maybe moreso than a lot of other fans.

Same goes for Walcott. If he'd said something as stupid as "English players never dive" I'm sure he would've been laughed at by our own fans. Fortunately, most football players aren't really that stupid. John Terry seems to be an unfortunate exception to this rule.

England may not be success in WC2010 because of Terry and Co 's line of idea and price. They should play and do the best for team and try to win with good performance not diving like last weekend.
