Is Drogba Still In Djourou's Pocket?

At last Johan Djourou is beginning to gain some recognition.

I've rated this fella for a long time and have always believed that he could become a top-class centre-back.

The other night he had Didier Drogba in his pocket so much so I wouldn't be surprised if Drogba was still in there next to some lint and a two bob note.

Granted, the Chelsea man has chewed up our defence and spat them out more times than a Native American munching on tobacco but what a performance by Johan! He was smoking.

The geezer was immense and it seems at last we have someone in the ranks who can handle a powerful striker and lets be honest, they don't come more powerful than Drogba.

In the summer I think a lot of people had Djourou down as Arsenal's fourth choice centre-back, that was something I didn't agree with, but the fact he is getting so much praise now is testament to how far he has come.

Gooners now believe in him and that is very important. It will mean a lot to Johan and now I'm sure he will have even more belief in himself.

Of course he has had injury problems, like many have in our squad, and if he can overcome the niggles and grief I have no hesitation in saying that Djourou will become one of Europe's best defenders.

When Thomas Vermaelen returns from injury I'm sure that it will be him and Johan as the first choice pairing at the back. I'm more than happy with that.

Keep It Goonerish.........

Well, Djourou did start the season off as fourth choice. After spending a year out through injury, there was no chance he would be playing every game. He'd probably have played less had Tommy not been injured as well.

Yep, our first choice pairing should be JD and TV...... Which funnily enough is a combination I shall be deploying tonight when she goes to her 'spinning class'!!!!

djourou was only 4th choice i think due to being out for all but 1 match last year.

djourou has been 1 of our best defenders to pass through the club imo despite being so young.

and wenger has said recently hes worried if he plays djourou too much he'll end up injured. which if he did atm we'd have 3/8 of our backline injured. by the end of the year djourou will hopefully be able to play 3 matches in a week but atm hes a bit off that im sure. koscielny and squillaci certainly play better with him and will be better when playing with vermaelen. who has a year's EPL experience.

Kolo was only sold because Arsene was promoting Djourou and then he got injured for a season. So he prob was always 1st/2nd choice.

Djourou's performance was first rate, but let's not get carried away just yet. He needs to prove himself further.

Djourou played great as did Koscielny. Kos doesn't seem to be too popular with gooners right now but the lad has obvious class and wins virtually every tackle he puts in. For a player who has played only one full season in a top league (France) prior to this year Kos has been immense. More to come from him for sure. I'm not saying Kos is perfect, but I have him and Djo ahead of Squidpoo.

@GUNNERKID107: the fact is that JOHAN was the best arsenal defender in his last three matches for the club before being knock down by injury, i was very impress with Johan during a preseason match against velencia, you could see a committed player ready to give everything for the club but he has not been lucky with injuris which in return depreciate his performance. Johan is a diffrent class to Senderos so my belief in him is not from the match against chelsea but long before we played chelsea .

most gooners forget that toure was sold so as to give djourou a chance but unfortunately he tore his knee ligaments in pre season training two summers ago. he has'nt had enough time to settle into his role but he will come good. it is finally good to hear some prase of our team from this site, how long will it last though

You must be confusing me with another site pal.

I'm pretty sure that mine is one of the more positive blogs out there!

Apparently our manager dont rate him at all. but on the bench against wigan with the fatal pairing of kos and squid...

When will that thickhead learn?

8 changes to the team. if that is not arrogance, i dont know what is.

Arsenal have 4 quality Center back who will be rotated based on the opposition, number of games played, type of the game.. I dont believe we have a first-choice pairing.. Same with the rest of the line-up.

That is what I like soo much about this group. They have soo much quality that others can only dream of..
