The Remedy To End The 'Feud' Between Gooners

Make no mistake about it, there is a civil war amongst Gooners these days. Its almost as bad as America in 1861.

I would love for this conflict to end, I really would.

The split between Gooners amazes and saddens me at the same time. There appears to be no middle ground although that is where I firmly sit.

Following Arsenal's 'cup collapse', like a deck of cards, tensions are running deep. Some fans are furious whereas others are more optimistic.

I suppose it depends whether your glass is half-full or half-empty. Or if you prefer a bottle then I don't know where that leaves you.

As I've said before I can understand both sides of the argument.

For me I appreciate what Wenger has done for Arsenal, is doing for Arsenal but I also acknowledge his faults too.

Despite that something needs to be done to end this 'feud' between Gooners.

How do we stop the bickering? How do we stop any more blood from being shed?

Of course winning the title should repair a lot of the damage but I still don't think that would be enough.

In this day and age most clubs out there are spending more money than Frank Lampard does on Pukka Pies and what Wayne Rooneys splashes out on granny-banging.

It makes us jealous. It does.

I admit I get envious when I see the likes of Manchester City and Chelsea weighing out for players but at the same time I'm realistic enough to know that Arsenal won't and can't spend those sorts of sums.

We are in an era where sugar-daddies don't pick up young women anymore. Instead they pull football clubs.

And I think this is the problem. Gooners just want Arsenal to spend some money.

I honestly believe that if Arsene Wenger went out and spent £50m on players this summer then the bitter split between Gooners would end. Till next summer at least.

Everything would be hunkydory.

Its apparently well documented that Arsene Wenger has money to spend but is too stubborn to spend it. I agree to a certain extent.

Personally I don't want Arsene to spend money just for the sake of it like I did at Stringfellows on my 25th. It's not big and its not clever.

But, if he pulls out the cheque book, dusts it off, and signs a few players in the summer, then I predict that there will be harmony between Gooners again.

Some will not want Wenger at the club by then but I don't go down that route.

All things need is a little freshening up and I honestly believe this summer that will happen.

If we go into next season as champions, with a couple of new players, then there will be an almighty love-in between Gooners and maybe then we can end this AKB and DAG nonsense and be united.

Keep It Goonerish..........

It'll end the way it always ends. Either we win something before too long in which case the fair-weather fans still with us will be back on board claiming they supported the club all along and have been supporters since the year dot or they get so frustrated and bored they clear off somewhere else. Its just footballs way of shedding weak supporters.

solution Wrighty..get wenger out...then we all maybe can get back together...AKB's have ruined the pure and genuine feelings that being a Gooner is all about....no man is bigger than The Arsenal...and the general feeling amongst Gooners..well the Club doesnt invest in the Team anymore..we have become a financial institution and we are being ripped off on a daily basis....the people that runs The Arsenal these days doesnt care about winning ..its all about money...its sad really...

There's nothing worse than someone sitting on the fence. You have a blog but all you do is commentate on what other people are saying, show some bollocks and pin your colours to the mast.

Not everyone has black & white opinions anyway. It's dumb to say half want wenger out and half don't - lazy journalism.

Their is a huge divide going on at the moment. Think his time is up.

To be honest, even if Wenger wins the title I still want him out. It's a very weak league this year and I'm worried that if Wenger wins it Arsenal will be back to fighting for 4th next season and we'll never get rid of him.

The fact is, he's been at the club too long and I don't like his arrogance - whatever he does want him gone and a change of scenery.

oh yes, a change of scenery, what a marvellous reason to ditch our most successfull manager. Maybe get Holloway in...he's a laugh.

I cant see use winning the title utd are to strong they showed it against us in the cup, they can grind out results we cant, all this mental shit bollocks every season its groundhogs day nothing changes.everyone can see what we lack apart from wenger!fans are not asking to spend silly money like shitty and the chavs just asking to clear the deadwood that offer nothing and buy players that want to play nd fight for the team,i think nearly six years is long enough for 5 seasons his failed to replace great players we had with young ones EXPECTING magic its obviously not working.

Why do some people expect to win trophies every year? Perhaps they are spoilt, perhaps they do not remember the years between 1979 and 1986 when we won nothing and certainly did not challenge for the title most years. Or the years between 1971 and 1979 when we were even worse. Perhaps they only started supporting Arsenal when a certain person won lots of trophies in a short space of time....now of course he must go because he's not giving you what you are used to. Get over it you spoilt muppets

A couple of new players will not be enough.A new manager and a complete overhaul of the squad is the only remedy.Wengers way is to one dimensional,he has been found out long ago as Fergie have proven over and over again and Wenger will keep persisting with his one dimensional football.Just wait till the summer comes,he will pocket all 55 mil we get for Cesc just wait and see and use Aaron Ramsey as an excuse "the new signing excuse"

For a start they should be freezing season ticket prices not increasing them, the club is just taking the piss out of our loyal fans! I back Wengers policy on transfers and bringing through the youth all day long, but his stubbornness not to invest heavily in a World class centre half is a joke. Our defence concede such soft goals and shit their pants every time we defend a set piece, bring back George Graham as defensive coach. We have no adequate cover for Song, Denilson & Diaby are not up to the job. Rosicky is well past it, Squillaci is pony we need to get rid of all the dead wood, bring through JET, Henri & Frimpong & splash some cash on a World Class CB, a speedy winger (after Theo we got no real pace) and a striker that’s not made out of glass! Personally I would love to see Hazard, Subotic & Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. This would allow us to use Theo up front as well as on the wing, Kos is 2 seasons away from being World class but has the potential as does Johan (When not injured) Then we can all get back to holding hands and cheering out team on. If we do go on to win the Premier League it will not be because we’re the best it will be because Utd & Chelsea have both gone back wards this year and will invest in the summer not forgetting how much money the scum from N17 & Man Shitty will also spend big, our fans are forced to pay top dollar to watch a team that’s been in development the past 5 years!! What the fans want is a marquee signing to signal our intentions, so Arsene open up the purse give the fans what they want.................

How can I pin to my colours to either mast?

I don't believe sacking Wenger is the answer but I admit he has faults.

That puts me in the middle whether you like it or not!

There is a big devide, and i'm on the side that now wants wenger out, i'm married to this club out of love.....but i don't have to like this team that has been put in front of me. A team that is supposed to be representing ME. This team, time and time again, has shown it doesn't have the bottle to win the big games, so anyone who thinks the title is coming to the emirates this year is deluding themselves....season ticktes are going up, and rewards aint coming in. Players are getting a fatter wage without reaching their goals. So we paying for FAILURE.

After 48 years of going to Arsenal I am starting to waver - its just too heart breaking seeing the same errors and the same excuses.

I know I have to be realistic and to be drawn against Barca and Utd away from home particularly was always realistically going to be difficult without our top team being available but in all honesty we are making the same mistakes regardless of who plays.

I don't care what people say about it but referees are killing our chances and our approach to football. I do not have a problem with errors but I have a problem that referees are not screaming for technology to help them out and avoid being considered utterly inept to put it mildly. Excuses about being in line with FIFA, UEFA etc are pathetic.

I would still be happy to continue the project youth policy as it has been exciting in recent years as we have built up to this point BUT it seems to me that we are in a situation we cannot get out of - what do I mean?

We know that the current team have members who do not do the right things - step up when the chance is there, people who cannot perform when under the severest of pressure, who seem tactically naive, people who seems afflicted with the yips in front of goal, who lose there temper under pressure and commit fouls in stupid places, etc.

We also know that we have another wave of players who need to be integrated to see if they can pass muster - Lansbury, Frimpong, Ryo, Bartley, Miquel, Afobe, Botelho, Henderson, Coquelin (how did Eastmond get ahead of him?), JET. Sunu, Galindo, Wellington, Ozyakup and several more.

So, the problem is we have accumulated a good number of players who need to be moved on to create the space for the next bunch - and here we have the problem. How do we get rid of players who have in the main long contracts on good wages that are not repeatable elsewhere plus the problem of clubs knowing we need/want to move them on. Players that come to mind are I think fairly easily identifiable - Eboue, Bendtner, Rosicky, Denilson, Diaby, Squillaci, Vela, Clichy or Gibbs, possibly Van P and Chamak as well. We can argue players back and forth but whatever there is a need to free up 6/7/8 places and how that is to be done.

It is my opinion that unrest will be less if the agitated half of our support see that at last AW has seen what most have seen for some time - too many players good on their day but not good enough to make a difference when it really counts.

Problems problems problems!

There are some fans who are impatient, not too bothered if the club goes down, gets managed by just injecting money into it, who the owners are or whether they have the best intention about the club as long as we win a trophy, it seems that all it matters. There are a number of examples available, Leeds United best example amongst them.
Lets take a look at Real Madrid and Barcelona; The Real fans are desperate for their club to win. It’s been a long time for them, they have had 6 or 7 managers in the last seasons, yet they are nowhere near Barcelona, who is not only winning and playing the best football, but due to their youth system, they have in their ranks plenty which points to a very bright future. However the Real’s manager the adorable Mourinho, he just totally ignores players like Canales et al. Does care about the youth system in that club?? He had set his goal to be there at most 2 seasons, so get the players are ready made.
And there seems no understanding of how difficult it is to build a new club and keep your status at the top level (Southampton FC), let alone playing the best and most attractive football, which now Arsenal globally know for.
Manchester United got lucky in the FA cup game, doing what they know best defend and sit back to counter attack. Arsenal was denied by some excellent goal keeping. I am sure we will win the league which is the most praised and best measure of your footballing level spreading out in the whole season. There is a very good example Mourinho. I am certain he would do very well for clubs like say Manchester city, just go there buy players you want as if there is no limit in spending, get rid of the ones you don’t like, and win the league, who cares how you win it, defensive football.....fine, stiffing oppositions.........no problem,........ and a lot of one nils. Yet he is just not suitable for clubs like Real Madrid, or Barcelona, where their fans don’t just want to win, they demand attractive football, with success. Arsenal will be victorious and crowned champions of 2010-2011.

End of the season.....people will ask questions again. Another Gagged farce of an AGM will happen. Wenger will realise he's under pressure and probably create another PR campaign, by his people through the french press stating that REAL MADRID want him to replace mourinho.....and gullable us will start another march singing his praises, asking him not to leave. Let's call his bluff this year

I think you'll find some people will never be happy regardless of any spending. If Wenger did spend 50 mill would it really stop people moaning if we didn't win every game 5 nil? I can actually remember people moaning during the 2004 unbeaten season, which tells you all you need to know about the modern fan.
Can I remind you that we are still in a good position to become Champions - this would be a dream for nearly all the other teams in the league, most of which have spent more money than we have - or do you really think Spurs are having a better season than us?
Get a grip. When its time for Arsene to go, he will go. Then, who knows what will happen after that....?

It's not YOUR Club. You're just a customer. If you don't like it buy something else. It doesn't really matter whether you hang around or not there are plenty of others to take your place. The club isn't going to change to suit you and apart from a brief period in the '30s has never, ever spent big money on players with any real success. So you either go along with the club as it is, moaning and whinging all the way, until we win something when we'll probably hear that you really believed in everything they did all the time.

I'm with you wrighty. wenger is an arsenal legend. i dont want him sacked. but his continued ignorance to the squad
deficiencies is an insult to the fans.
I want some ambition in the transfer market this summer. i want the jokers like denilson and eboue out. there's 6 or 7 squad players not fit to wear the arsenal jersey. all i want is those guys out, promote the talent in the youth ranks and sign 2 or 3 players who are proven winners.
If we go into next season with the same squad then wenger is really pushing it with the fans and i'll agree its time for a change. I would love to see guardiola come summer 2012

listen if wenger has trully left the legacy he's supposed to....the football and the style will continue barcelona have played their way since 1971 when Rinus Michels brought johan cruyff with him, the club excepted the style, and every manager MUST PLAY THAT WAY OR YOU'RE GONE! SIMPLE, why can't we do the same the guy was there for 7years and no more , yet the style has lasted 30years and gotten stronger.

Gooner_B11 said...

only guardiola.....i hear some of you saying? guardiola's just a lucky guy like wenger who inherited a team of winners and came with new fresh ideas that have breathed new life into the team, he's actually not that great a tactition, but a very strong disiplinarian....which i guess would help, because lemons like diabyolical would be sent on their way, at barca you either sink or swim, giovanni dos santos would still be at arsenal if he was an arsenal player and so would ibrahimovic....but it was actually
Frank Rijkaard who planted the seeds of what you're seeing now today, NONE OF THESE MANAGERS WERE ANYTHING SPECIAL BEFORE THEY GOT BARCA.....EVERY MANAGER HAS HIS TIME, AND EVERY MANAGER EVENTUALLY LOOSES IT! arsenal are afraid to fall so we'll never fly in this state, win games at the start of the season, get to late february/macrch upto may when trophies are handed out and continue to fail

wrighty, i have no problem with you sitting on the fence and seeing both sides of the argument, your chairing the debate, can anyone remember where we were 46 weeks ago??
we were contemplating turning our backs on wengers team when they were doing the lap of honour at the end of the season, that's where we were. has anything changed i ask you all??
spending 50 million during the summer on wrong players will not make the supporters endear themselves to wenger.who would true gunners prefer to have in there team in this war for the premiership, flamini and cole or gael and denilson. you see even when he has them at arsenal he cant keep them. he sold upson and brought in cygan, vds was at fulham and im sure would of prefered to stay in london and he was sold for1.2 million and yet wenger persisted with almunia. arguably our best player this season is jack wilshire who came through despite of wenger all because his mom and dad took him to hale end one cold winters night.there are a lot of starlets and wonder kids at arsenal because wenger wants to justify big wages for his scouting buddies and he could be driving by better prospects around the streets of london

It's idiot members of AKB to blame who are mostly foreigners or armchair followers who don't have genuine emotional & financial investment in the club. Foreigners who parade as big fans since TV has transmitted the EPL worldwide. These AKB are so detached so it's easy to be as they are as there is no lasting hurt or disappointment but a shrug of the shoulders.
As far as spending money is concerned I've never heard any Arsenal fan request a Man City / Reald Madrid / Chelsea style spending spree but want top class pragmatic signings in weak positions. Why bother moving to the Emirates ? So far it's been a big lie.

Wenger is doing ok, what he needs is a few players with characters.
We do not have viera, keown, adams anymore. You need to have these players to reach the top. Manure have Sherk, Vidic,Scholes,Fletcher.
Chavs have Drogba, Terry, Lampard.

We need people with balls, but we do not have anyone, may be RvP. Unless we get these people, it doesn't matter who the manager is.

Wenger needs to acknowledge this, the same way he went for Vermalen.
For the life of me i do not know why he does not play Vela. Vela was ahead of Hernadez on the picking order in the Mexican side, he only got his chance at the world cup when Vela got injured. Now look at him!!

Who are we going to get if Wenger goes, some Managers waste money and do not get anything. Del boy comes to mind.

Lets support the team and hope we do not suffer anymore injuries and get to the finishing line in time.

Good post wrighty.

There's only one person who can sort the gooner divide out and that is arsene wenger, why people want wenger out is because of one thing,,FRUSTRATION,frustration with seeing the same mistakes, year in year out, noone's asking him to spend 100 million on one player all we are asking for is he address the issues in the team with the money WE DO have, instead of feeding us false hope. There's so much more wenger could do to ease this frustration,ie drill your defence, listen to the fans a bit more,we all appreciate what he has done for us in the past, even if people are calling wenger a cunt.as i said it comes out of frustration, and no those people are not yids or mancs, they are people who have a deep love of arsenal football club....

When people go on about other barren spells in the past, what people don't realise is the fans were pissed off then and wanted changes then. They just didn't have the internet to complain on, so they just did it in the pub.

What is the argument here anyway? We didn't win things in the past so we should accept not winning things now? It doesn't add up. Barren spells in the past led to managers leaving and new ones coming in - such at Terry Neill in '76 or GG in '86. So if you want to make that comparison to the past... well draw your own conclusions.

Clearly we need a clear of the dross this summer, everyone knows who they are. Problem is Wenger's signed them all up to lucrative long term contracts within the last 18 months, so we're stuck with them.

Who among these players do you people want to replace?
For me only two players need to be bought this summer - a Left Back and a goal keeper. I'm not so sure about a keeper cause buying one would definitely mean less chances for Szczesny. All of you want to buy top class players. If such a player is bought, what is happening with Bendtner would happen again! No top player would settle for being a back-up to any other player. When fans talk of 'Big Money Signings' they usually refer to attacking players. If you ask me, our attack is one of the best in the world! Definitely the best in the premier league. If players like Eden Hazard sign to Arsenal, I have no idea where they are going to fit in!

I personally HATE feeling patronized and even the staunchest of Arsene supporters has to admit that we are fed promises that for the past six years have not been fulfilled. Why do we suffer so many debilitating injuries every season. Why do we always capitulate when it's crunch time in the campaign. This current squad seems only capable of competing in one competition. Arsene main fault is his refusal to allow or ENFORCE change within the team and by extension the general staff. As in life for anything to grow & prosper there MUST be change. There are many things that work within AFC that Arsene himself has brought about... but there are a lot of things that DO NOT work. As the manager he has to shoulder the blame. Arsene seems to have lost the art of "adaptability". Too much dead weight (we all know the usual suspects), a lack of leadership, a shite medical team, a world class spine in the team (CB->MF->CF), even our formations & tactics during games begs for a simple adjustment in thinking. Whats the point of gaining so much financial muscle when in the end it's not reinvested in the team (staff included). It's not our entitlement to win trophies EVERY year but it's our right as fans to expect the BEST possible team at AFC. The resistance to the obvious need for change is what I believe irks the majority of AFC supporters. The only thing that seems to change these days is the ticket prices! I'm not enjoying that "ripped off" feeling right now....

Nah. It's a good product. Plenty of people like it. One fan goes and another takes their place. Not everyone needs to justify their commitment with a trophy even if they want one as much as the fairweather followers.

Is it any surprise that someone who is so against AKB calls them idiots, and mostly foreigners and armchair supports??? Since TV has transmitted the EPL worldwide........ next thing you would hear is that foreigners have no rights to support the Arsenal football club, or support their manager. No doubt your role models are Allardyce or our very good friend Pulis to name a few. Oh yes .......the “pragmatic signings”, those very pragmatic signing are going to be so much better than our own players, and they probably cost around 10€ million. The so called pragmatic signings are those world class players are we have to get the check book out and sign them. Just look at Chelsea, spending a mere peanuts for Torres and now all their problems has been sorted out, in the most pragmatic way. Ah lest we forget, players whom you had never heard of, players like Patrick Vieira, Henry, Vermaelena, Cesc Fabregas, Robert Piers, etc. whom all happen to be “foreigners”, it was AW who brought them to the best club in the world.
Say for a second we go and get Guardiola, what if he doesn’t make the desired impact ...... should we get rid of him after a season?? And tell him you have lost the plot and have no idea what football is all about??!
We have a manager who cares deeply about our club, and he has shown that again and again. The way some people talk, it’s as if we are a mid table club go towards the wrong end of the table!!! And have no hope for the future!!!

There's a world revolution going on at the moment where countries that have suffered dictators for a number of years are realising that it doesn't have to be that way and that life would be better without the dictator.
Arsenal are ruled by a dictator, and the board, interested only in making money, are happy for him to stay as long as he is making them money. Wenger sits in on board meetings and has a say in the financial strategy of the club (this was confirmed by the AST). He has the power to give extended and improved contracts to under-achieving and sub standard players such as Bendtner, Diaby, Denilson, Eboue and Rosicky, this he has done. He alone makes almost every major decision within the team. Couple this with the farcical medical team at Arsenal (just how many times have they diagnosed things wrong this season? Greater than 10 times for sure). Arsenal are becoming a joke. Our league position is partly achieved through a very very weak league this season. The only way is down with Wenger in charge, the man is slowly killing our club. There is only one answer and that is to get rid of the cancer that infects us - Arsene Wenger.

Look, nobody wants to see Arsene go, but the fact is we can't go on like this. In any 'normal' season, when the likes of ManUre and Chelsea are firing as they should, we would be nowhere. We know it, and they know it. But the thing that really riles most of us is that it wouldn't take much to make this side a real force - maybe 3 or 4 strong, quality players. Who are they? I don't know, that's what we pay our scouts hundreds of thousands of pounds for. I would like nothing more than for AW to end his 'project', buy some real power and quality like he used to, and start winning trophies again...I just fear that he cannot and will not change his philosophies now. And that is a very real fear.

Difference between AW and Alex Furgs. AW revolves in his regrets... Ferguson gets the regrets totally out of their system so players are not feeling sorry for themselves by having a go at them. AW sits back and depends on the team's mental strength to get them back on track. Its been a long time since pre-season Arsene. Talk to ur team and gv them a hair dryer for Goodness sakes! Champions always respond to defeats... thats y Manu always respond! Coz they get bulled at by Alex.

He should go and let a new fresh manager take over and re-energise the team.I dont base my feelings on a few games, more like the past 2 or 3 seasons where we invariably lose the big games. Its not just about winning trophies, its the manner of the defeats and drawn games to mid-table opposition on a predictably regular basis.Look no further than newcastle spuds and wba at home and wigan away.

The fact is Arsene, as a football tactician is weak, this is a big FACT! as borne by the years of repetition of the same mistakes and one-dimensional approach to the way his team plays. Is he able to instill xter, or steel in players, answer is no, when we were winning he was lucky to have such bed rock of the team in place to build on, now that he dismantled that group, it's been zilch and embarassment for us fans. If he recognises these flaws in himself, then the honest thing to do would have been to purchase these type of players, they don't have to be tippy toed, just beasts that no one would mess with. He is a stubborn arrogant man whose reliance solely on data and science, and the unhealthy obsession to make sure he wins with youth (probably trying to emulate Ferguson..) is his undoing; courage, strong will, sacrifice, and a winning mentality are immeasurable values that no data, or science can produce.

Some fan's head are so stuck up Arsene's a.. that he can do no wrong, maybe it's actually time he moves upstairs where he can manage the finance better, and leave the art of football winning and tactics to another manager, some tend to deceive themselves that good football started with Arsene and would end with him, I wholesomely dissagree.

Even if we win the league this season, I still think he has shown enough for me not to be convinced with him anymore.

omichael, so what your actually saying is,wenger was handed the formula and had success with it,has tampered with it and is to stubborn to try something different or listen to the fans opinion

what boring football madrid play under mourinho, cannot have that fans in a jovial mood knowing that their team have closed the deal long long before the final whistle
was jose ever a good enough manager to ply his trade in the j league???????

Wenger OUT! Anyone who can't see what he is doing to the club should go with him!

Those who hate Wenger must be patient. He will be gone in a few years. His contract will be up. So, don't worry or get too agitated!

But then I imagine you will get agitated every year afterwards when the new manager, after revamping the team, will slide downwards like Liverpool, or Spurs...etc.

Haters gotta hate.

No need to get bothered about it or hope a change of manager and/or players will make a difference. A bump on the road and the same ones will be at it again, cross-posting the same tripe endlessly.

All the football fans laugh about us having some of the shittiest fans in the country. Guess what, that's the price of success.

"pussy boss pussy players an some shockinly pussy fans since when was it good to finish 2nd 3rd or 4th Mourinho would win the lge with this squad because hes a winner with a winning mentality nice one wrighty"

sums up the type of twats we have supporting this club now. If you can't see that Moronho is the antithesis of Arsenal then you know nothing about the club
