Cesc Fabregas wouldn't get into the Aston Villa team

'Also Cesc wouldn't get into the Villa midfield. Milner and Petrov are too good together. You will see at the weekend.'

The above is a comment that was left by an Aston Villa fan on Christmas eve. I've a feeling that this person was on the sherry whilst writing the comment. It's the only explanation I can think of.

Cesc Fabregas tore Aston Villa a new hole in their arse yesterday. His performance was breath-taking and he was only on the pitch for 25 minutes! Imagine if he played the whole 90, we'd probably have got into double figures.

The game needed someone to grasp it by the scruff of the neck and the little Spaniard duly accepted the responsibility. It may have come at a cost, Fabregas limped off after scoring his second, but it was worth it because that was the best performance I've think I've ever seen in 25 minutes in my whole entire stinking existence.

It was Roy of the Rovers stuff. It was amazing. It was a real captains performance.

When he came on Cesc seemed to raise the performance of everyone yesterday. The players and the stadium was lifted. I only wish some of that would rub off on Eduardo.

It seems to me that the little Crozillian is suffering from a major lack of confidence at the moment. I'd have backed my house, my cat, my car and my lucky pants on Eduardo scoring that early chance yesterday. He did everything but score. The turn to create the chance was immense but his finish let him down. I'm sure he did the same against Hull City last week too.

I really feel for him at the moment and want him to do well so badly. After what he has been through he deserves a bit of luck. We need to stick by him because he will come good again. He is to good a player not too.

Suffering an injury like he did is bound have an effect. It would on anyone. We need to be patient with Eduardo and let him feel he way back into regular football. In my opinion he is the best finisher in the Premiership and that is an awesome weapon to have.

I won't change my mind on a fully-fit and confident Eduardo being able to score 15-20 league goals a season for us. Let's give him time and support him through this spell.

What about Diaby? Let's hope he gets a bit of luck too. He is hitting a real peak of form at the moment and is showing that he is becoming a vital player for Arsenal. He needs a bit of luck because the poor bastard has suffered injuries at the worst times.

The Frenchman can dominate the midfield and until our little skipper came on was easily the best player on the park. He made mincemeat of Petrov and Milner. If he can continue this streak then we won't lose many battles in the centre of the park.

As for Aston Villa, they will be battling for the Champions League places at the end of the season. They are a good side but I think with the likes of Heskey and Carew in the team they tend to use the 'direct hoof' quite a lot. Gallas and Vermaelen were brilliant coping with the aerial threat Villa bombarded us with. They deserve a lot of credit for that because it's something we have been criticized for not being able to deal with.

I fancied us to give Villa a good hiding yesterday and that we duly did. My only gripe is that I had a bet on Diaby being first goal scorer, not last, and I had a little sneaky bet on 3-1. I was going to do 3-0 but changed my mind at the last minute. What a twat eh?

Keep it Goonerish.............

Eduardo was OK Wrighty.. He did the turn brilliantly...Few would have managed that + he was in that position.

I think he is coming up nicely and will be one of our most important players come Feb.

I saw that comment on Christmas eve and it was so absurd that I decided it wasn't worth taking the time to comment on! There is one midfield in the entire world that Cesc wouldn't be an automatic starter in and, ironically, it is that of the one team that is becoming increasingly obsessed with signing him- Barcelona. Sadly, as we saw last season, some Villa fans have a smug sense of delusion that almost matches that of sp*rs fans. Shame, becasue they're quite a likable club in general.

thank god you remembered that comment. i had forgotten the blog in which this comment was made and was scourging through the newsnow arsenal page the moment the match got over. CESC FABREGAS ABSOLUTELY ROCKS. and the way he celebrated the first goal - it showed sheer jubilation on helping his team. shows he ain't gonna leave anytime now.

I have to be honest and say your blog started off rather poorly, but like the Arsenal, it just gets better and better with each passing week.

You go in HARD with your comments, you're not afraid to speak your mind and I think it distinguishes you nicely from some of the other more mundane blogs out there.

Credit to Denilson yesterday too, he's in a rich vein of form, and let us hope his back injury is not too severe.

The only midfield that Fab would not start in is Barca's. He is a great player and proved it today. Eduardo's confidence is nothing to do with his leg- it is psychological and will come back. Diaby was also great today and should get more credit for his performance

I was watching Milner yesterday as I was interested to see how good he has become...but what a shocker, he hardly got involved, when he got the ball he lacked vision and his passing was sh1t. I'm not joking but we have boys in the reserves who would have contributed more..Coquelin, Wiltshire, Frimpong, JET etc...

Wrighty - I'll be honest and say that I thought you were a bit of a plonker when you first started blogging. Now I really enjoy your blogs.

You're a bit like Diaby. A guy with many talents who just needed to know when to use which talent and I think you've got your mix just right these days ala Diaby.

Keep on blogging. Brilliant stuff.

i think cesc would get on barca's midfield

i totally disagree, barca is a footballing team and will finda way to accomodate fabregas in the lineup, either that or the first injury and he will take his chance and stay in the team, baby jesus number 4 is the worlds best

Firstly Wrighty I've gotta say I agree with a lot of the posts out there - quality bloggs mate, though I'd say your more of a Cesc taking the leadership and dominating your peers....always an interesting & amusing read!!

I made the prediction of 2-0 yesterday and I was pleased to be put wrong in the last minutes - You can see Arsene was right to stick with his principles, the likes of Diaby & Song are great examples of just a couple of players who are a year wiser and much more confident, Song misplaced a few passes but was strong and powerful in the middle breaking up the play well. Diaby roaming around with neat touches and strong runs typified by his final goal - That said I'd still like to see us strengthen in Jan.

That was an fantastic 27 mins of football from our genius of a captain I must agree, sensational !! But being at the bridge when Kanu came on as a sub and banged in a hat-trick in 15 minutes when we were 2-0 down has got to be right up there with it !! f**king amazing !

Got to love the gooner family!

All my closest friends are gooners - definitely not a coincidence.

Don't you guys find that when you meet somebody, and they say they support the Arsenal, you always manage to get on with them fabulously?

It was a great win and setback for AV. After beating the other big 3 ONeill must have fancied his chances.Well it shows breaking into the cl group aint going to be easy.
As for Arsenal, the clamour for AW's head will die until another so called crisis. In the meantime the gunners must keep up the pressure. The defence was superb and nullified the threat by Young and company. Looks likes he is overated but I believe he will bounce back.
As for the gunners if they keep on playing as a unit who knows. The second and third goals show Arsenal can go direct and I do hope Diaby keeps on running at defenders. The next time he does that ,some thuggish defender will try to kick him while prtending to tackle .Then the ref must show a card. A talking to won't suffice.
May the new year of 2010 bring cheers and trophies to the gunners.

Arsenal have been in the top 4 for the past 10 seasons and won the league quite a few times as well.

Aston Villa have come close to 4th place last year and are doing well this year.

There is no respect for what Arsenal have achieved. One season they run us close but finish below us eventually and they think and proclaim they have the better team.

Stupid and lack of respect really.
