Take that chance Arsene.........

Arsene Wenger is wary of "killing" the chances of a young player if he brings in a big-name signing.

'Of course I am in a position where I can spend the money.
'But every time we have done such a great job with the young players that you are concerned 'do we kill a young player or not by bringing another player in?'
'It is a very sensitive subject which is not specially linked with money.'

Please take that chance Mr Wenger.

Over the summer we have lost four experienced big name players, so the rest of the squad wouldn't really notice the difference if we replaced those who left with like for like, would they?

It would probably refresh the squad to see some new faces around.....

Also, the main aim for Le Boss was to keep last season's squad together and then add two or three to the squad. That hasn't worked to plan so we need to replace those who left and then add the players Wenger said we needed.

I understand Wenger's sentiments to the youngsters, he wants them to progress and sees potential big name signings as blocking their paths. But we need experience to guide those youngsters.

Youngsters look up to big names and experienced players, having those at the club would help them progress.

Young players learn plenty of things from experienced big name players. Could you imagine playing alongside the great Gallas or RVP? You couldn't help but learn!

I'm not asking Le Boss to go out and spend £300m, we don't need to. We are not far away from a side and squad that could dominate the Premiership for many years. But we do need to add to this squad, that is for certain. We need experience in the games against Chelsea, Man Utd and Liverpool.

I'm hoping that Wenger's comments are a smoke screen and that players will be signed. Who knows what Wenger will do?

I hope he takes that chance though....

Keep it Goonerish.........

I wouldn't use the term 'great' with the name Gallas...

How about - the hugely disappointing, vastly overrated, getting-slower-by-the-day, petulantly irritating, can't-head-a-ball, should-never-be-captain, why is he wearing No.10 Gallas.

That sounds more accurate.

I agree with you.

We need to add and I think we will.

I thought exactly the same, Wenger is using this as a smoke screen.

Nice blog. We all hope he'll take that chance and surprise us with a couple of big name signings, but deep down, do any of us really believe it will happen?

Gallas is one of the best CB's in the world and I'm happy that he is an Arsenal player

I want Wenger to be my personal financial advisor.

I'd be a millionaire in just a couple of years!

We can't keep everyone happy unfortunately. Some of these young players might not reach their potential anyway.
Is it worth risking not replacing experienced players in the hope that the young ones will come good?

Agree with Daniel,

I think the squad we have now will be the squad for the season.

Wrighty7 said...

I think we need to take the risk.

Young players are inspired by big names and experience. It can only help them.

But it won't just help the youngsters, it will help OUR club win things.

Gallas, great? I use to like your site but after reading that. Come on Gallas is the one player that needs replacing!

Wrighty7 said...

C'mon!

Don't hate a man because I like Gallas.

I bet you don't like him because he used to play for Chelski!

I understand mate!

Gallas is a superb defender - if anything we were let down by Toure who had a shocking season by his standards.

There is no guaruntee that an established player can come in and do a job - we play in the most unique way, explosive one touch passing requiring the highest of technical abilities. Barry has been mooted but he has never played with class players and certainly not for teams that play one touch passing at pace.

Also, players may be reluctant to join us before we qualify for the Champions League proper- once we secure that we should expect a few signings

SACK WENGER!!!! He's past his sell by date and has become too arrogant, trying to create a kindergarden to try and get into the top 4 so the board are kept happy. As long as he stays, we will have a manager with NO ambition and no idea!!

Sack Wenger is a bit harsh I think, but you do have to wonder what his thinking at times. For all you smokescreen believers, Wengers telling us no more signings of note to come. Sorry my mistake, we signed a 17yr old today! Be scared fergie

This blog gets better all the time.

Keep up the great work mate!

As for SACK WENGER?!!!

Mate, I find it hard to believe that you are in fact a Gooner.

Who do you want?

Some cunt like Mourinho?

WEll I too think thats it high time we get a much needed experience player atleast as far as cdm position is considered already we are weak in that section and i cant seem how our defence which was our weakest link last season, havent been improved by wenger. i mean barring clichy and sagna, the central defenders are a concern and he got to do somethingg about it. although rightly said wrigthy7 we need experience even though it comes at a cost

Arsene belongs in a hippy commune where everyones feeling can be taken into account and respected and a lot of loving can take place. BUT IN BUSINESS!!!! Okay then if you want to bring up the young kids and be respectful of that. Show some respect our way and be respectful in cutting down the season ticket prices...

it arsenal already has a very strong squad,i dont see any reason why wenger would buy barry, we have dijouro, song,,delison, diaby and aboue,so to spend 18 million on barry does not make sense,i think wenger might buy left winger but thats it, there alot of young gifted midfielders in europe wenger might but one on the cheap.

i hope he bring fran merida in the first team, we only have walcote nasri and risisky as wingers and i think might get left winger.

Not sure we'll dominate for years to come (not that we don't possess great young talent) however anyone thinking that the current squad is stronger than the squad that finished last season is crazy. Forget the 'one years more experience for the youngsters' cobblers. We need to add a decent CB and DCM without question. Then if Ade stays, we are in with a shout. We've needed a decent keeper since Seaman... but looks as if we will have to make do with what we've got.

He has to take the chance and sign an experienced DM and CB..fabregas had vieira and bergkamp to look up to and learn from..who does ramsey have to look up to and learn from??
Gallas?? Fabregas??
So LE BOSS please sign an experienced DM and CB who is proven in the Premier League..the younger players can learn a lot from them..Alonso/Richard Dunne

Leon!! most of those players you name lost 5-1 to the tossers up the seven sisters.

We won't make top 4 this year the way we are going.

i think the issue of gallas is worth discussing for a whole day- on whether he should cap for next season based on last seasons events.
what do you think wrighty

Wrighty7 said...

Lagosian,

I will write about Gallas soon mate.

Gallas has to be captain, he is the only player older than the mascots.

He's afraid to stifle the chances of a youngster coming through by buying an established player of known quality and experience. But he isn't afraid that not buying those types of players might stifle our chances of winning silverware? These types of comments by Mr. Wenger are becoming more common and I'm really becoming more nervous about our chances next season....

arsenal have quite few experienced players in the team we have toure, gallas, clichy, risisky , and fab, both diaby and song have gained valuable experience with spells on loan,i feel diaby and delison will step up,arsenal have a very young team, but have some experiened players. we came so close i feel that young, talented, and hungry players are far better than having a big name in your team,

these young inexperiened players that your all talking about came so close to winning the title are going to be so hungry because they know they are good enough and wenger will fighting keep them off the training ground. loosing hleb and gilberto will not kill the team at all, nasri is far better player and will score goals. with song, dijouro, delison, aboue and diabi we have no problems, we slight problem with set plays but dijouro and diaby were injured most of season so youy cant say the werent good enough, if rvp and risisky stay healthy we will score evon more goals

Anonymous said...

trust wenger he is a god and dont forget we got calos vela to come in and i think diabys good enough to replace flamini i just dont understand y he persists with eboue and senderos u have to agree they should go

also buying a big name dosnt win you trophies!

Gentlemen, the window has not shut just yet. If Wenger annonces he is after a certain position to be filled we will have every man and his dog link to us thus creating inflated prices. Ye all have little faith - In Wenger we trust!

The situation is beyond a joke. We can't hold on to the players we have. We won't pay top rate wages for the best players, Wenger won't sign anyone for fear of upsetting the kids, but he keeps signing kids. Anyone notice how the chairman DHW immediatly came out and said we can't spend because of the credit crunch. Worse still its looks like everyone is for sale and our one true class player,Cesc is almost certain to be out next year. Anyone with £40M can get him as well. Well at least Eboue and Senderos will be around to keep us going, nowhere. Sad days indeed.

Anonymous said...

why is everyone hating on Gallas? 2 of the main factors behind our improvement from 2006/7 were his intensity leading from the front allied with Flamini's proactivity in the middle.

Provided that the players haven't lost confidence in him Gallas has to remain as captain and is undoubtedly worthy of his place in our starting eleven

Wenger has become too obsessed with young players, no side has ever won the league with a squad based on players under 25 and that is fact!! wenger has obviously lost his way, he said he needed to keep the current squad together and ad one or two really "special" signings...well I am sorry but you cannot count Ramsey and Nasri as special can you??? And now his comment seems stupid in the light of having to replace players who have left .... is he really going to try and make do with the likes of Diaby, Song, Denilson who have all so far failed to look the part?

Our squad was lacking badly last season....now it is even weaker... it's all very well bringing young players through but you need class and experience to actually win things.

My warning - brace yourselves as this season could be one enormous disappointment/failure unless Wenger gets of his overflated egotistical butt and spends money on the right players........

And I don't rate Barry ....he has been grossly overrated so I hope that rumour is false!!!

I get really dispirited reading the opinions of so many so-called Arsenal supporters on these blogs but I recognise that supporting a team does give you a right to be critical. But please, let's keep it in perspective, because that seems to be the thing that so many people are lacking.

I suspect that most of the narky, whingeing, negative comments come from very new Arsenal supporters. (I also suspect that some of them come from Spuds masquerading as Gooners, but that's another story.) Perhaps if you've only been supoorting the club for 10 years you think of trophies as a right. Us fans of longer standing never do. We remember the long, long periods without success. We remember years of dull, negative football. And yet we still support. Three years without winning anything is disappointing, but hardly the end of the world.

We had some success in the past, notably in the 1930s and 1970s, but really, the Arsenal glory years kicked off with Wenger's arrival. It wasn't so long ago -- 1994, I think -- when we finished something like 14th in the league. He, more than anyone, has made Arsenal the "big" club it is today.

Which is why it offends me so much to read all these disrespectful comments about Arsene Wenger. Top four finishes and Champions League football are not ours by right, but Arsene has been so successful some of our younger, newer supporters seem to think they are. Go and study the history of the club you profess to love. Get a sense of perspective and with it learn some respect for the manager who's transformed the club.

Alternatively, fuck off and support Spurs. At least there you'll have plenty to complain about and it'll put the "failure" you're whingeing about in some perspective.

If the players perform as they did last season no big player is required. There is no guarantee last season's form will be repeated. The only criteria is stop paaing the ball till eternity and learn to shoot and kill off the game. Cut out the flicks, back heels and other harlem globetrotter act. The name of the game is winning and not entertainment.
Winning is better than entertaining where you can be mugged despite having 99% of the game and shots.

I have been a gooner for as while now and havent seen Wenger make many mistakes but saying that he dont want to kill young players, give me a break. The reason why we didnt win anything lastseason was down to lack of central defenders, period. We just cant protect a lead. Against United, Chelsea, liverpool, we went in front only to give up stupid goals. Toure had what I would call his worst season so far. Injury prone players all over the place and Gaffer is talking abt not buying. He needs to wake up and come to terms with reality
