Aston Villa gaffer Martin O'Neill has (apparently) revealed that Arsenal number two, Pat Rice, rang up his number two (confused?), Steve Walford, to enquire about Gareth Barry.
"Myself and Steve Walford both know Arsene Wenger's assistant Pat Rice,"
"He phoned Steve to ask how the Liverpool thing had gone and said that they might show an interest.
"At the end of the conversation Arsenal said 'that's fine' and that they'll let us know. That is exactly what happened."
Whether this is true, I'm not sure. It is printed in the highly reliable Sun newspaper. A-hem....
If indeed there is substance to the story I'm sure Mr Wenger will appreciate Martin O'Neill making it public knowledge that Arsenal are interested. NOT.......
So thanks for that Mr O'Neill, you may scare Arsenal off now. You should know how secretive we are about transfers (except Nasri)
I wonder if this is a ploy by O'Neill to force Liverpool to up their bid. Make it known another club are interested and Liverpool aren't too sure that the deal is 100% theirs.
It's good though to see Le-Boss looking at estabilished players to bring in. We need a couple. Mixed with our youth we really could clean up next year.
Keep it Goonerish...........

Barry? im not that excited bout him anyway
Barry and Fabregas.......
Great combo almost as good as wedges and chicken strips........
The good thing is Barry is Premiership proven so would not need to adapt.
He and Cesc could make a great partnership.
I think Cesc and Barry would be a partnership that rivals the best in the Premiership.
Barry will make Cesc tick like Flamini did. He is also left footed, that gives a great balance in the middle.
Remember Petit, Edu?
They provided balance with their sweet lef feet!
well livin in brum ive come to know that barry is a bit overated. no doubt he is a good player but according to many fans not worth 18m. after all they are the ones who watch him week in and week out. it would be a shame if wenger who has not payed that amount to bring any player in, pays that much for barry. villa fans will be laughing mad.
If Barry comes to Arsenal I don't think the fee will be that high. Not £18m anyway.
Maybe £12m and a fringe player?
Easy Wrighty7 - how do I email you direct?
I bet Wenger loves his business being made public.
However its great to know that there could be a move on the cards!
Him and Cesc could be dynamite.

Good post Wrighty7, Barry would be fantasic
Barry is a player that would 100% fit in at Arsenal and he's not scared to aim for goal, just like Cesc. He can scrap and has bagloads of experience. The only thing I can say of Barry is that he is a total fighter and doesn't hide in the big games!
So why not pair up him and Cesc? We need 2 experienced guys to come in this summer anyways. We will Flamini if we don't cover the DM role properly. Flamini covered the most distance in every game he played for Arsenal last season and that is a real warning! The only thing is I don't know if Barry can cover the same distance Flamini covered. Anyway, I'm resigned to the fact that we WILL miss Flamini next season. There is no one in the squad that CAN play the same way Flamini does at the moment (I say that with confidence). YaYa Toure cannot be as good as Barry in the PL playing for Arsenal. Barry is a straight fit. No need for settling in. He knows Arsenal and have played against us before. He is a regular in the England team and because of him Lampard or Gerrard may be sweating on getting into England's first 11. Barry is a force to be reckoned with.
I also like his character. Doesn't talk too much. Keeps his head down and just loves his football. He was in wilderness for very long but with hardwork, he brought himself into limelight. That fighting spirit is what Arsenal need right now, not players who are only keen on making six figures per week.
Wrighty: Who are these two players that TommiG has tipped you off that are joining??????
I have no tip offs mate!!!
