Cesc Fabregas is reminding me of the old Steven Gerrard

I'm not saying that Cesc Fabregas plays like Steve Gerrard. In fact I think they are a totally different type of player.

However, at the moment Fabregas is reminding me of how Gerrard used to be for Liverpool.

The England man used to grab Liverpool by the scuff of the neck though games and almost single handingly drag them to victory. I say used to because I haven't seen it from him this season.

Our little Spaniard is doing for us what Gerrard did for Liverpool. Dragging Arsenal to victory.

Cesc has been unbelievable this season and has taken his game to such a high level. The best thing is that he is young and will still improve. Quite frightening really.

He has grown into the skippers role and has become a true leader of Arsenal.

There were times when I would marvel at Steve Gerrard and his influence at Liverpool. Well, Cesc Fabregas is fast becoming as important to Arsenal as Gerrard is at Anfield.

In my opinion, that is a compliment to Cesc.

I don't think we've had anyone at the club who could influence the team like this since Thierry Henry left. Henry could and would dominate games and produce something from nothing.

Cesc Fabregas is doing the same. The difference is under his leadership we look like we will win something. That is no slight on Henry.

Keep it Goonerish...........

Good point, although saying that implies the rest of the team are doing nothing. Unlike Liverpool in Gerrard's younger days (pre-Torres) we are not a one man team!

Come on! He is much better than Gerrard!

tbf, th14 was a useless captain, he looked down at his young team mates when they made a mistake.

cesc is quite the opposite.

ARE you kidding (@ first answerer) Without Cesc we wouldn't have gotten the points @ Villa & Bolton. Sice RVP is injured, Fab is the glue too this team. Arshavin can't do what Cesc is doing

I'm not saying we are a one-man team.

I just think that Cesc is growing to be such a big influence on the team and in games.

Don't you mean Cesc is reminding you of the old Steven Gerrard? I don't understand 'old new'.

@ Wrighty - The thing I want to see if he can do this in BIG games. He always has a habit of turning invisible during the big games. The manu game should be the first test.

Yes not a better player in his position in Europe at the moment and he cant get in to the Spainish team quite frightning Spain surley will win the world cup

I think Wrighty means that Fab is like the old Gerrard but the new version.

hate to change the subject but we should be resting players for the FA cup game against stoke. We probably won't be signing everyone and we need the first team healthy for the title push. Carling cup team anyone?

Hold your horses Wrighty the real test comes now,we will see exactly what this team is made of when we face Villa,United,Chavski and Pool, if we are within touching distance when we have played these games we will 90 percent become champs.Fab deserves a championship no doubt about it he is something special.

We've got to capitalise on this unexpected situation and buy.

Hi Wrighty, I do see your point but I think Gerrard is inferior technically than our Spanish maestro.

I think Billy was magnificent last night and grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck, so too did TV and AA23 plus TR7.

Cesc is just magnificent a real gem of a player who will be wanted by ALL the great teams. so we will get nothing but frustration to go with his brillience until he is gone.

What I'm noticing more and more though is that the rest of the team look for Fabregas to pass to, like they used to with Henry. I'd like the rest of the team (e.g. Diaby, Arsharvin, Rosicky) to take more initiative on their own - they have the talent without needing to resort to always offloading to Fabregas. Don't get me wrong, I love Fabregas being on the ball - he's so influential that he'll be man of the match most games - but the rest of the team need to step it up. If that happens, Arsenal will be in with a great shout of winning a major prize this season.

Good point Boris. Somthing to think on.

tbf fabregas will be way better than gerrard ever was. think about it, hes already got 6 years of premier league first team experience under his belt, has became captain of arsenal, and this season he has become the best player in the premiership and without a doubt the best CM in the world, but the most amazing thing is . . . hes still only 22!! that is actually quite scary to think about really. he will surely be an all time great and one of the best players in history

What an insult to Cesc.

Cesc will be better then Gerrard, well he already is LOL. I still believe you are as good as the players around you because he might make the perfect pass but somebody has to finsh it like Thomas did. Don't get me wrong, Cesc is the best and I love him. I just think without Cesc Arsenal can still beat more teams then Liverpool without Steven. But hey Arsenal is a better team then Liverpool so you know.

Cesc is not even like Gerrard ... He is better than him compared to the old days of Gerrard ... And he will be even better than Gerrard in years to come ... And i hope he will not quit like he said "When i get the EPL and Champions League with Arsenal , i will started to think about moving to my childhood club that is Barcelona , our number one enemy since the last final we entered on 2006 !!!

I know what you mean wrighty he is lifting the team like gerrard can do at pool. and what henry used to do (have to agree with stringfellow henry was a useless captain.)
but i think its more than that. If you look in his eyes there a absolute steel determination. Look at some of the goals he's been scoring lately (burnely, the gallas tackle one) some he's just bundled through defence's like he ball wont let the ball get away from him. He just want glory so much with us he wont let the oppo win the ball from him.
You just dont see players with so much desire so often it like he's a real gooner.
Reminds me of rocky just wont cant let himself play a notch below 110%.
And this flows down through the team. RSD

gosh but there is a bunch of plonkers commenting on this article. Read the damn article, twice if u r a pillik, then comment! Sum of u r taking on Wrighty about this, after u raped the article in ur own mind and went completely of the point. Yes Wrighty, I agree, it does seem like Cesc is having that influence on us. Any team needs a leader like that yet they are not easy to find. I guess all the more reason why we shud hang on to him, tooth and nail!

Wrighty Mate , the old Gerrard :-) , isnt half as good as our young cesc :-)

Kidding mate.

I agree with the point you are making. The influence he has on the team is IMHO very close if not more than what Titi had.

Alot of people disagree with you Wrighty, but i believe what your saying to be true. Fabregas is the man at the moment a real pivet in the game but i think all this emphasise on him will just highten our expectations of him. So when the little catalan star is having an off day (God Forbidd) the press, the journalists, the bloggers and the fans will be jumping on his back. We were doing so well in the beginning scoring 4,5 and 6 goals a game but when there was articles saying there will soon be a goal drought.... there was, the next game!!!
Players arent blind, they read the papers and watch the tv. All this extra attention of Barcelona of Real Madrid so keep it down, this Catalan kid is ours for keeps!!!

Wrighty, if any one ever ask me about one damn honest (and rather an unknown quantity) arsenal blog, I would definitely refer them here. I love how you admit that you're wrong, but not really jump in the bandwagon of I TOLD YOU SO when you're right. Keep up the good work, and please, if you do have the time, make it a daily update, I need the fix. LOL
