Will Thuram sign for Arsenal as a player in the summer? Uuumm cant see it some how!! But maybe as a coach?

Lillian Thuram was linked with a move to the Arsenal last week from the French press. Can't really see this happening!!! Wenger is rumoured to have offered France's most capped player the chance to end his career with the Gunners, playing for one season and then learning a new trade as a coach at the same time.

Thurams advisor Oscar Damiani has denied that talks have taken place with Wenger and the player doesn't even know whether he will continue playing football when this season ends. His contract at Barca ends in the summer too, so there wouldn't be a transfer fee involved if the deal went ahead.

Wenger has worked with Thuram in the past at Monaco and has been linked with bringing Thuram to the Gunners several times over the years. I really can't see this happening! Could he handle the pace of the Premiership at his age? Don't get me wrong, he was and still is a fantasic player but if the transfer would ever have happened, then surely this would have been when he was at his peak?

If he was to come to the club as a player/coach, which has been mooted around then wouldn't he have to pass some coaching exams or something? I'm sure that's standard now in becoming a coach. I may be wrong.

If he came to Arsenal, wouldn't he also slow the progression of Senderos and Djourou? That would be wrong because the signing would only be short-term and if we did sign another centre back then the player would need more longevity than Thuram. Someone like Micah Richards, who as you know, I feel would be perfect for Arsenal.

I'm sure he wouldn't want to spend time on the bench, which brings into the account again that the role would be more coaching than playing! Which in fairness, I think could be a good role for him. If he came (and passed his exams) and was given a coaching role then that could be good for the club. He is very experianced and Toure reminds me of a young Thuram at times. Perfect mentor perhaps?

I would be happy for him to come to Arsenal as a coach. Not as a player. He is a very experianced man and can be described as one of the best defenders in the the last decade. It would benefit him as he will learn a new trade at the best club in world football and our young defence will get valuable advice from the best. Wenger likes him and apparently even uses Thuram as an example to the team when talking about professionalisim.

He is a top man, and maybe a role at the Arsenal could be found, but only in a coaching capacity. Not as a player......

Keep it Goonerish.............

Great post.

Thurum would be an asset to Arsenal as a coach, not as a player like you say.

Keep up the good work on this site.

It gets better all the time.

Think i would play Thuram in front of philip or johan there both likely to do something stupid! but don't think any of these players are the real answer to the the centre half problems we will have in the future?

Don't think u need any badges to coach just to be the manager, but do we really want to have wengers apprentice to be another frenchman wouldn't it be nice for him to nurture an englishman into the ranks?

Hey northbank, I think we're nuturing the new Pat Rice at the club...Justin Hoyte! I must admit that i'm not the biggest fan of Senderos , I think Djourou has more potential. I think centre back is definatley a position we could strengthen in. I just feel Thuram is too old to sign and I couldn't see him dislodging Gallas or Toure and I wouldn't imagine he'd settle for a place on the bench....unless his main role was as a coach?

Yeah your right all our english players are to young or two shit! Justin hoyte isn't a bad player he just needs some confidence, infact when he has played centre back for us he looked ok just a same he is about 3ft tall.
Think Thuram would be more than happy only playing 10 or so games a season. and looking a the state of toure and gallas on sat he might be our best center half!
