Gallas, Cesc or Kolo?........

After Cesc's recent performances in Euro 2008 some Gooners are calling for him to be made Arsenal captain. I'm all for this, but not at this present time.

Although surprised at the time, I feel that Le Boss made the right call in naming Gallas the Arsenal skipper. Pretty much everyone believed that Gilberto would be named Thierry Henry's successor and it was a shock to see Gallas as new club captain.

I feel that Gallas is a good captain. I know Gooners are split on him but I feel looking at the squad William is the right man to lead Arsenal onto the pitch.

He inspires a winning mentality and a never-say-die attitude to the team. In short, he is a warrior and winner. Arsenal came so close last season to being champions, was it a coincidence with Gallas as the leader on the pitch?

People point to his outburst at Birmingham last season as a reason for him to be stripped of his arm-band. Again people are spilt on this moment. I think it showed how much he cared about winning and lets not forget the circumstances in the game. He had just seen a team mate suffer one of the worst injuries seen in the game and Arsenal had just conceded a late penalty. Emotions are running high and isn't Gallas human after all?

Do you know how you would have reacted in this situation? You never know, you could act the same.

I can understand Gooners not taking him to heart right away. He did play for Chelsea! But I really feel that he is still the right man for the job and he would have learnt bundles from his experience as skipper last season.

Take the arm-band away from him and give it to Cesc now and I strongly believe that we would be saying bye bye Billy. He wouldn't stay if you took that away. It would undermine him, how could he stay?

The day Gallas leaves Arsenal is the day that Cesc Fabregas will be installed as Arsenal skipper. And quite rightly so. He loves the club and I can say that with the confidence it wont bite me on the arse!

Another name thrown in the hat would have to be Kolo Toure. He is very loyal and at least deserves to be in the reckoning. Although I feel he will be appointed vice-captain to Fabregas when the day comes calling.

Fabregas has all the ingredients to become Arsenal captain. But that time isn't right now. Have patience and you WILL see Cesc one day being Arsenal skipper, it is his destiny. He is made for it.

But right now I believe Gallas is the right man and will show why he is captain this coming season when hopefully he will be lifting some silverware.

Keep it Goonerish................

Good post.

Although I really want Fabregas to be captain of Arsenal, as you say, now is not the time.

It would heap pressure on him and he has enough of that already.

Looking at the squad it is hard to find a captain after these three you have mentioned so Gallas is the right man at present.

Keep up the good work!

Agree Gallas should be captain but when he does leave, I dont think Cesc should be automatically installed skipper. I want to throw another name in the hat and say Clichy for Arsenal captain. He is so consistent, so loyal and the fans absolutely love him. He has that winner's attitude and he is irrepressible. Another reason would be to spite that cunt over at Chelsea.

Regardless, I wouldn't mind either of them captain as long as they are both at the club for a long time

Good shout on Clichy......

I'm inclined to agree but I don't like him due to his Chelsea links.

KOLO, ALL DAY......

None of those mentioned. Give it to Clichy for the reasons mentioned by anon earlier.

Kolo is Arsenal through and through but I wouldn't appoint him captain because he panics under pressure. I think it would affect his game.

Yeah Cesc should be our skipper surely. This guy really loves the Club

The whole thing about not blaming Gallas for the Birmingham incident 'because you don't know how you'd react' forgets how much money Gallas earns to be a professional sportsman and this is a prime example of him acting in a completely unprofessional manner, disgracing the team and himself as the leader of men.
Time for him to be stripped and the mighty Toure to be promoted, the only member of 'The Invincibles' remaining and the longest serving member of the squad, all without ever forgetting his humble roots and showing respect to the club and fans - a real leader who is also highly regarded by the squad.
Clichy and Fab are both way to young for this kind of responsibility and Wenger chose Gallas as he believes that the best captain is in defence as he can clearly see what needs to happen all over the pitch.
We just need to hope Fab's still with us to take on the captaincy when the time comes!

I think the only was Gallas will lose the captains armband is if he leaves the club or is out on a long term injury. He's just not the sort of character to play under another captain. He should keep it but I'm all for Cesc getting it eventually though. Not sure about Kolo being captain.

Whats money got to do with it?!

Gallas reacted that way and it is done. Lets not dwell on it.

The press leaped on it and sqeezed everthing they could from it.

But as i say, so what Gallas acted that way, he is as wrightly says human and not a machine.

He is an emotional guy.

Agree about Kolo, legend.

GOONER SCUM

Fabregas by a mile.

Kolo barely warrants a starting role and Gallas is an overrated ageing petulant megalomaniac.

Fabregas Captain, Clichy Vice-Captain.

HEAVY RUMOUR - Arshavin will sign on Tuesday...

I know many, if not all, of you may not agree with me but time allowing I'd throw in Senderos in the hat too. He is a very commanding, no nonsense young man. I've always said that Senderos in a confidence player, the more he plays the more confident he becomes and the better he gets. Doesn't he sometimes captain Switzerland?

hahahahahahaha the guy above is a joker, one of the funniest things ive heard in ages!!!!!!!!!!

Ideally I would like Kolo as captain and Fabregas and Clichy as Vices. But if we overlook Cesc when picking the next captain he could be a goner, not a gooner so I'd say Fabregas with Kolo and Clichy as Vices.

Hey nice, intriguing post Wrighty. To think of its one can see improvement in gallas's performance last year when he was made captain, although in birmingham game he should have been a bit more mature. i think he should be retained captain for 2 years and then the arm band should be duly passed on to none other than , CESC FABREGAS, coz no one is more deserving than him to be made an Arsenal captain.

Given our recent habit of selling our captains, let's not give it to cesc, or kolo for that matter.

Gallas doesn't has the never-say-die atitude. He had given up defending a penalty against Birmingham last season, no matter how much people have to say to protect him, to me he is the worst captain in Arsenal I have ever seen. Toure is the main to lead.

Hey Wrighty, whats your email address?

The whole furore around Gallas' actions at birmingham were purely press-instigated drivel to attempt to distract the fans and public away from the real issue, which was the horrific injury to Eduardo, and the causes of that.

The Gallas issue was insignificant, and ignored the fact that Gallas had also spent the entire week supporting and consoling Sagna over the loss of his brother.

Gooners who fall for this rubbish should be aware that they are playing straight into the Arsenal-hating media's hands.

The media wriggled like worms on a hook trying to avoid the "English" game being shown up as a biased, xenophobic, thug-fest.

Taylor was apparently the poor, hard done by victim, Gallas was the despicable, hate figure who behaved so terribly.

Tell the media to go and do one, don't fall for their propoganda.

Gallas is a good captain, but at Arsenal there is somebody else who is BETTER. Kolo Toure.

I agree, Cesc will be captain in the future but not now. He's only 21 and I cannot imagine him telling Toure and Gallas to do things. It's like a 5 year-old kid ordering his father around.

Clichy is not the captain kind of guy so sadly he's not a good choice. Anybody out there who agrees with me that Rosicky is a suitable choice? He have been captain for Czech and Dortmund at times, and f he could fight ff his injury he's a major candidate.
