We must be patient......

Carlos Vela can't wait to put on the Arsenal shirt whilst we Gooners can't wait to see him in one!

The Mexican joined THREE years ago but has plied his trade in Spain, having to bide his time waiting for a work permit.

He seems really eager to please and appears to have his head firmly screwed on.

I'm really excited about Vela. He seems a real talent, and Wenger rates him very highly. Whether playing upfront or on the wings this season, Vela will no doubt get Gooners on the edge of our seat's with his playing style.

Although excited I call for patience with Vela. He is young and will take time to adjust to the Premiership and English football in general.

He will have gained first team experience in Spain but we should not expect him to make the leap straight into the Arsenal first team. I'm sure that Gooners are not naive enough to expect that anyway.

I wish him good luck in his Arsenal career and hope he helps us win many trophies.

Speaking of good luck, I wish plenty for Gilberto.

He has been a superb servant for Arsenal and an excellent professional throughout his time at the club.

I won't forget Gilberto and what he has done for Arsenal. An excellent player who did a great job for us.

He has a brilliant attitude and even when he was over-looked as captain last season and barely featured, you hardly heard a grumble for him.

Young players could learn bundles from Gilberto just by the way he conducts himself on and off the pitch. And Arsenal will miss him, not just his experience but his role in the squad.

I would be more than happy for him to stay, but you can't argue that at his age he needs regular football and it's likely he won't get that at Arsenal.

Keep it Goonerish..........

As usual Wrighty you are bang on.

I expect big things from Vela, from what I've seen in Spain he is quite a prospect.

He will take time to bed in, its precious time we don't have really, but he will become a very good player for Arsenal.

Top post.

With Vela, Walcott, Rosicky and Nasri on the wings goals will be plentiful this season.

Now lets sign a defender.....

WE NEED A DEFENDER AS WELL THOUGH

I actually think we need a Defensive Midfielder, Center Back I am not sure... I think Song should now be 3rd choice ahead of Senderos.

Djourou was also unlucky with injuries, some people seem to forget that and he was doing well, wasnt he man of the match for Birmingham vs Liverpool? (cant remember if at Anfield or St Andrews)

Wrighty...what a player he was eh !
keep the good work up son, good blog, I expect us to sign Barry, Villa will not let him leave to Liverpool but Wenger will try and wait until the last minute to get him or either Xabi Alonso cheaper, one of the two would be an excellent signing, great players

Yes Vela sounds promising but I expect him to be used like Walcott was the last couple of years. Who knows though, with any luck he'll come in on the left of midfield score 15 goals and never look back...until we sell him to Barcelona in 3 years probably!

My concern is how AW has gone from saying he will buy two or three players to increase the squad (interview from May available on arsenal.com in the archives) to us now having let 4 experienced players go, and only bringing in 2 players plus Vela?? If my maths are correct we still need 4 more...I guess Aug 31st when the transfer window closes is a fair way off....I think old AW seems a bit too complacent at times!

I agree that Vela will take time to bed in. Any experienced fan would know this. However, just you watch, at the first sign that he is struggling to acclimate to the EPL, there will be hordes of Arsenal 'fans' calling for his head. I hope I am wrong...

he will be good player for us but we need CD and DM

Yes, I agree with most of what is being said on here, but I would like us to sign a goal keeper as well as a DM and CD. As Arsene so rightly pointed out at the end of last season, the team is in need of strengthening in those positions. If this is not the case, I just cannot see us mounting a serious challenge on all fronts

looking hopefully for wenger magic in the transfer market soon.

I seriously doubt Gilberto would've been allowed to leave if there wasn't gonna be additions to the squad.

Time will tell, but I fully expect the squad to look a lot healthier by the time the window closes.

The trouble is AW has always said that he favours giving the younger players the chance when the older players go - Adepaymor when TH left, Cesc when Paddy went and Toure when Keown went...so I wouldnt be surprised if we are all on here come September scratching our heads hoping Diaby or Denilson can be a good DM....Look at it from AW eyes...he's got 4 CB's, 2 RB, 2LB and 8 midfielders if you include walcott and vela and 4 forwards in Ade stays...plus Song wherever he plays! So I think we may get a Keeper. As I said b4, I still think we need 4 players but we'll see what happens. I think Ade will stay now but he's mugged himself off. People keep going on abou winning Trophies but no one mentions the 2 finals in 2006 CL, 2007 CC we lost by a fraction, so lets get some perspective!

...and I will add to my previous rant by saying that THs finishing cost us that game in Paris 2006 yet thats never mentioned!! And when I say 'people say' I refer to the general comments on the Arsenal blogs around...not this one particualarly. Keep up the good topics Wrighty 7!

just wanted to thank 'The Invincible Wall' for his amazing years of servitude to the club and for his contribution. Players must learn from him especially the likes of Ademoney. Well I just hope he will play for a very long time at Panathinaikos and will win lots of trophies as well!
We love you Mr. Gilberto Silva

Hey there Wrighty,

I think your blog is great and I would be very interested in a link exchange partnership between our sites. I can't find your email address anywhere on the blog so I thought I'd post a comment here.

If you are interested in a link exchange partnership, feel free to email me at partners@sportsbettingreview.co.uk

Cheers, and keep up the good work! :)

there is definitely one DM on the cards. Else a player of Gilberto's calibre wouldnt have been let go.
