Why is Kolo Toure so silent?

One minute Kolo Toure is leaving, the next he is staying.

One thing for certain is that Kolo Toure handed in a transfer request that was rejected by Arsenal and he withdrew the request.

Since then I've read that Kolo has cleared his locker and said his goodbyes. Nothing has come of this but I want to know why Kolo has remained so silent on the matter.

If he withdrew the request why hasn't he come out and stated his reasons?

I remember Steven Gerrard doing the same at Liverpool and then doing a u-turn. He came out and explained his reasons.

Kolo is someone I don't want to see leaving the club but it's obvious he has thought about it and wanted to leave.

I think he still wants too. Maybe he has been banned from talking about the situation by Wenger but I'd like some answers.

Perhaps he will be allowed to leave, perhaps not.

I think it's surprising that Kolo has remained silent. Especially if he really wanted to stay.

Keep it Goonerish...............

Interesting article Wrighty, maybe the whole transfer request thing was a storm in a teacup? It doesn't take much for the press to blow a story out of all proportion. Apparently he had a bust up with Gallas and this prompted the transfer request. Perhaps they have buried the hatchet and unlike Gallas he prefers to keep these things quiet?

It would be interesting to know what went on, especially as Kolo seems like the least likely bloke in the squad to pick a fight with anyone. Now van Persie vs Gallas, or Bendtner vs Ade I could understand.....

Too true wrighty7.

I think he wants to go.

He has shown commitment in the past, why not now?

Good post.

Hey wrighty7, not sure if you'll believe me or not but I've been told by a very reliable source (i.e. someone who knows Kolo personally) that he's in talks with City and will more likely than not be leaving the club

AFC4Life,

If Kolo handed in a request on the basis on an an argument I'd be very disappointed in him.

I suspect its lack of playing time OR someone from Man City has had a quiet word in his ear about how much money he could earn there.

Up4Grabs,

I wouldn't be surprised at all!

The Gallas argument was quoted in a few papers, so it could all be bollocks. I'd be surprised as well if that is the reason. I don't think he's had his head turned by City as he is Arsenal through and through. I agree it's probably the amount of playing time that's getting to him too. He has been injured though, and I'm sure even he'd admit he's not been at his best this season.

I hope he stays as he is top class when he's at his best, plus him staying gives us an advantage if we ever try to sign his brother! I'd much rather see Yaya sign than Arshavin, doubt either will happen though.

I think it's more likely Gallas will be leaving IMO.

The fact he is conveniently injured for the rest of the window too??? As Kolo comes back to fitness??? And the Vicar was murdered in the library with a.....

Does anyone really care whether Toure stays or not. If Man City are brainless enough to bid eight million for this overweight, over rated defender then we should DRIVE him up there to sign the deal ourselves. Toure is just past it and you all should just accept that and move on. Arsenal are far more important than one player.

i cant believe what i am reading this results business and all about winning popularity is not relivant, the fact is gallas is winner, he does like nor does accpect send place the problem i s with him rather its the mentality of the rest of the team, he may be the best of captians but this not popularity content there all there foer one reason to win titles which they have not done 4/5 years. i hope gallas does not go we.there is a reason why arsenal have won anything in 4 years they are not rufeless enough, toure has been shadow his former self when he was playing with sole cambell i cant see him being picked over gallas, gallas better player than him, there is also reason why he never been given the captaincy

Guys I don't normally do this but to be perfectly honest with you if Kolo wanted to leave it would not surprise me, and it would have nothing to do with Gallas!
In fact I'm one of the very few people it would seem that backed Gallas for his outburst...lets face it for all his successes at Arsenal our beloved club's manager Arsene Wenger has made a lot of shocking errors in judgment this season and last. We lack a real balance of youth and experience in the squad...what happened to the fighting spirit of our untouchables season? How come we can beat the likes of Man U and Chelsea but loose at home to Hull or was it Stoke, either way we lost both games? Why or Why was Flamini not pinned down into a new contract in the first half of last season? Why is it that Walcott's contract extension is being made a meal of?
Perhaps I put too much blame on Le Prof maybe its the board?

Perhaps Kolo has lost the drive to be in the top 4 every year and wants to go to a club battling relegation...

he probably hasnt said anything so it cant be taken out of context by all the muppet bloggers and the absolutely clueless blog commenters. And to the twonk who says cash in on the overweight... when did you start 'supporting' arsenal? hes been one of the most genuine dedicated and imo best defenders of the last few years. hes only started being a bit ropey when put on the right for the CL against liverpool last year and next to gallas (who is a brilliant defender and also an idiot).

Kolo Toure is a true Arsenal Legend. He is one of two remaining members of our last league winning side and embodies the Arsenal spirit more than (or at least as much as) anyone in our squad.
Kolo has had a bad run of injuries and a lack of first team football so to say a 27 year old in Kolo's circumstance is past it is pretty ignorant.
I don't think there is anyone out there for 8 or even 15 million (Spike) that can offer us what Toure can and has.

You're right LeonK, Arsenal are more important than one player, but that's not the issue here. Unlike other members of our squad Kolo has always contributed to the unity and spirit at Arsenal and he has not caused any unecessary headlines what ever his issue is.
The last thing we need to do is part with a player with Toure's character and qualities at a time when there has been so much change and upheaval at our club. We need to hold onto players like Toure if we have any chance of silverware this season or next.

It's likely that City offered to nearly double his wages and then go out and spend a bundle to get his brother. Whereas, at Arsenal he's fourth choice in central defense and third choice at right back for the time being.

Also, he didn't get the armband and we've passed on opportunities to buy his brother Yaya on at least three occasions (Metalurh Donetsk, Olympiacos, Monaco, Barca) - opting for Abou Diaby instead (shudder with horror).

Toure hasn't been the same player since he came back from the ANC, he's become fat and lazy and to bitch about his spat with Gallas is a lame excuse to leave as there are plenty players who don't get on.
Gallas is a better defender, scores more goals, Toure is still pissed because Wenger overlooked him for the captaincy.
Let Citeh have him for 10 mil +, so we can get someone in who can at least head the ball in the right direction, his time is done at Arsenal, we all know it, time to move on, not dwell what a good player he use to be

I don't think you guys realise that it is going to take Kolo a very long time to be properly 100% fit.
He caught Malaria and it is a nasty illness which stays with a person a long time. In a normal person after a couple of months you can live pretty much a normal life again. Whereas, for an athlete its a terrible problem because it will keep coming back with slight symptoms for a while.
I enjoy reading this blog. Opinions are always good to hear. Just thought i'd add mine. Peace anf fucking. Flex

Hopefully playing Kolo against Bolton might show him he's still a valued member of the team. I assume at the moment he's mulling over his available options.

kolo's acted like a nob. He took bck his transfer request so as not to lose his fee when he signs for City. He needs to wake up and realise he's been RUBBISH for 2 years and has cost us crucially in many games - far more than Senderos ever did. Bye Toure, you can't pass, you can't head, you are the worst free-kick taker in the prem and you've obviously forgotten what a nobody you were and what Arsenal made you. Go to City and team up with Richard Dunne. Djourou pisses all over you anyway!

Well Spike, i think King Kolo worth more than 15 million...=P

Maybe you should realise it doesnt make a fucking difference if he says anything.

Wenger hints at Arshavin deal
Arsene Wenger has hinted that negotiations aimed at bringing Zenit St Petersburg forward Andrei Arshavin to Arsenal are progressing well.

Arshavin has been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium this month and it was reported earlier this week that talks had begun over the transfer of the Russian forward, who could cost up to £20million.

Wenger, refused to rule out a move for Arshavin last week but remained coy when asked about whether the 27-year-old was close to signing for the Gunners on Friday.

"We do not want to talk too much about who we want to buy," Wenger told Arsenal TV online.

"At the moment I cannot give you any good news but in this job no news is good news. Nothing has fallen through. We are on alert in the transfer market."

He also hinted that he was also in the market for a defensive midfielder to bolster his injury-hit squad.

"That is also a priority," he said.

"We are not in the big league. We are a little short because we wanted a player like (Tomas) Rosicky to play 80% of games and he has not played at all.

"We want to spend money but as everyone knows, and as the the chairman has said, we have money available but we have limited resources, and you want to spend it in the best way possible."

The Frenchman also quashed rumours that Kolo Toure, who recently retracted a transfer request, could leave the Emirates and was adamant that nobody will leave the club this month.

"That (Toure story) is finished. We will not sell any players this month."

Wenger sees this weekend as an opportunity for Arsenal to get their Barclays Premier League title bid back on track.

Title rivals Manchester United and Chelsea will lock horns at Old Trafford on Sunday and Wenger believes the result could help his side move up from the fifth position they currently occupy should the Gunners get a result at Bolton.

"It's an interesting possibility for us to get us closer to one of the two at least, if not both of them," he added.

"Ideally I'd like it to be a 1-1, but more importantly for us, we have to focus on our game and get the points then any result will be positive because it will give us an opportunity to catch those two and the rest in front of us."

Arsenal go in to the match on the back of an unbeaten six-match run in the league and Wenger hopes another win at the Reebok Stadium will convince doubters that his side are serious title contenders.

He said: "We want to put in a good performance and if we do then I believe that people will change their mind about our team - they mean business, they work hard, they are serious and I want the team to be rewarded for that."

Manuel Almunia is expected to line up against the Trotters in goal tomorrow.

Wenger rubbished claims he is set to bid for wantaway Newcastle goalkeeper Shay Given by saying he has full faith in his number one and back-up Lukasz Fabianski.

"We have two keepers in Almunia and Fabianski that we rate highly," Wenger said.

There is a lot happening in this Toure saga. Right now we cannot lose any of our CB. Toure is the most versatile player at Arsenal at this moment. But he really out of form this season. He cost us against Spurs by loosing the ball in midfield. He have so many poor game and very few outstanding one.For my opinion, he request for transfer because he disappointed with himself. At least he doing better than Sol(which walk out in the middle of game) by request for transfer. So my word of encouragement for Toure, work hard and fight for your place. Don't be like your mentor Sol which easily giving up.
