Gudjohnsen to Arsenal?

Reading the papers today I was alerted to the fact that Eidur Gudjohnsen has been told he can leave Barcelona for around £4 million.

I've always rated Gudjohnsen and feel that when he left Chelsea, Arsenal would have been an ideal place for him to go.

He is a highly intelligent player. A natural at his game, and I feel that he could have been an adequate replacement for Bergkamp.

Now Bergkamp is a legend and a genius I know, but Eidur is a similar player and as I've said, is a highly intelligent player.

He has great vision, is experienced, and would be a snip for anyone at £4 million. It's a shame age is against him at 29, but Bergamp carried on into his mid-thirties, so why couldn't Gudjohnsen?

Bergkamp is a legend and cannot be compared to anyone, and I wouldn't want to insult him, but Gudjohnsen is a good player and could do a job for ANYONE in the Premiership. Afterall, he has Premiership experience and is versatile.

What do you think?

Keep it Goonerish.......

I think he is too old to sign for Arsenal. Good player and I can see where you are coming from with him doing a Bergkamp role, but it wont happen.

He's too old wrighty

I personally wouldn't really think this would be a transfer to "reassure" the fan, and I hope that AW would be thinking the same. I think the price is more attractive then the player, especially give his chavski past!!

HELL NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I don't care about his age, he is just too crap to play for Arsenal. Let him go to West Ham or something. If we were going to spend £4million on a forward, we should have spent it on Dos Santos. Well done again shitty Spurs (saying that with all too much regularity this season, still won't be better than Arsenal though).

Dear god no.
He is not good enough for Barcelona what makes you think that is good enough for the mighty Arsenal???

He would be good enough for any team in the Premier League, spot on. Wenger won't go for him, but if he did, I'd be happy.

A winger is more of a priority though.

I really would have liked to see us sign Gudjohnsen when he left Chelsea and my opinion hasn't changed. He's a quality footballer and anyone who says he isn't is clueless! And why is 29 too old? We've got an too many youngsters in our squad so he's a perfect age and he could help those youngsters a hell of a lot.

He'd be an excellent signing i think - a hard-working, versatile player; really smart and very strong as well

trouble is that i dont think hed be happy with the 2-year contract that arsenal would offer, and I doubt theyd pay 4mil for a 29 year-old

I would love it if he would sign, and that's not only because I'm from Iceland. Gudjohnsen is a real quality player and could be really important for us. He is a forward but I think he is even better in Midfield. He could easily cover for Fabregas as well as being a cover for the striking role. I would doubt he would start ahead of RvP or Dudu but as a squad player, he could be really useful.

Well that could be interesting but as Ade is staying i guess we have plenty of strikers already

4 mill is certainly good money for talent,
you make a good point regarding the bergkamp role he could emulate

£4m may be a decent price, but I disagree that he could do a job for "anyone" - he hasn't played consistently at the top level for a few years. If he goes anywhere it would almost certainly be to a mid-table side.
And to suggest he could perform the Bergkamp role is a bit far-fetched - would you really drop van Persie for him? We have plenty of players who can play the final ball with Cesc, Rosicky (and Nasri?), and personally I'd put Gudjohnsen behind Adebayor, van Persie, Bendtner, Eduardo, Walcott and Vela. So couldn't really see him getting many games.

woulda, coulda, shoulda. Sorry, Gudjohnsen's missed the boat. I see him more as a Freddy, and at 29 AW has looked at the possibility for a millisecond, gone hhmmm and moved on.
Maybe 5 years ago....

top post. always thought of him as the closest thing to Bergkamp and his experience would be invaluable however with the pending signing of Nasri it won't happen. besides once (IF) we get a fully fit van persie he will take up a similar role.

poor swiss tony, czechs just scored completely against the run of play.
