Johan Djourou ready for Manchester United

I've been calling for Johan Djourou to be given a start and he was finally rewarded last night. He gave a faultless performance too.

Fenerbache didn't really show much ambition so Djourou wasn't tested as much as he would be this weekend (if he plays) but he showed that despite not being in the game for long periods of time, he had the concentration levels to perform well.

He never gave the ball away, always looking comfortable with the ball at his feet. He dealt with the long balls that we have struggled to defend against in the past with ease.

He was calm throughout and has given Arsene Wenger a selection headache at the back for the visit of Manchester United on Saturday. This is a welcome selection headache I must add.

Djourou showed great strength too, shrugging off the imposing figure of Guiza with ease, we will need that strength on Saturday.

I'm glad that Johan was given this chance. He has been overlooked in the past for Song and I have discussed before that I feel Johan Djourou should be before Song in the pecking order in defence.

A clean sheet was a welcome boost for the big game on Saturday and Johan contributed to it, despite Fenerbache's lack of ambition. I think he did well enough to start against United, whether he will or not is a different matter.

Keep it Goonerish................

he is as good as Sol was. he has all the makings of a top defender. but No, Gallas and Toure will be restored on saturday. its wengers own decisions that are putting pressure on him, but he wont be told any other way, he is very stubborn.

Yeah, he did well but did he have much to do?

Fenerbache hardly attacked, our defenders spent most of their time on the half way line.

Toure, Sagna and Gallas all return for Saturday, so why risk Djourou there?

I heard someone say that we are yet to comcede this season when JD starts. Whether this is trueof not is beside the point. JD defo deserves a start until either Keown comes back or Wenger buys a real defender. JD is the answer.

If Silvestre is out then Toure and JD should play together but i wouldnt be suprised if Song comes in!

I think Djourou can go a long way in the game.

He reminds me a bit like Rio Ferdinand was when he was younger.

Calm, technical, good headerer, strong, not afraid to put his boot in.

I really really rate him.

Wrighty, what happened to the John Jensen picture?

He has played well in every game he has played this season, but its too few. I think he has had some niggles though. But in all honesty...I just dont see him keeping his place if Silvestre/Gallas/toure/Sagna are fit! I wish he would tho!

I think that he will be dropped for Saturday but I hope I'm wrong.

Danish,

We wont get stuffed, I think we will win.

Could be a hard fought 1-0 or 1-1. I can see us putting in a good defensive performance but we have been blunt up front and that might cost us.

I think the comparisons to Rio are a bit too much Wrighty, Rio was already in great shape by the time he was 18.

Djourou has the ability to be a very good player though, his reading of the game and his ability on the ball is as good as most - although his decision making is sometime erratic.

A holding role in midfield would be good for him as well, he wont be as dynamic as Flamini or players of that ilk, but for a guard for the back four he'd be perfect

cuntchops

I'm sure Rio was erratic at Djourou's age and that only goes with experience.

Rio scored 5 own goals in one season at westham! haha

I remember the Hammers fans used to really blast him when he was a kid. However the big difference was that at Westham he played every week at the age of 19 and got all his mistakes out of his system, Djourou on the other hand hardly plays a game!

Hopefully Djourou got all his mistakes out at Birmingham last season then!

I just hope he plays saturday if i picked the team he would play alongside Gallas and I would move Kolo up into midfield to strengthen us in the middle of the park.

I really hoped at the start of the campaign that we could cope but it is now blatently obvious we are lightweight in the midfield and in experience. Theo and Nasri do not offer a great deal defensively and with Cesc and Denilson both attack minded we are leaking goals Kolo in the middle of the pich would add experience and wth Gallas looking after Djourou at the back it would give us more balance. But you just know its not going to happen.

Your gonna get spanked on the weekend and all you Gooners know it, god dammit, even Arsene "I'm too blind & stubborn to see what's really going on" Wenger knows it!!!

we are so fucked at the weekend. iv lost all faith in winning the league, we dont have the team to do it. fourth is our best chance, and i expect it to be a fight. i expect an early exit from the CL too. the pressure is kicking in and confidence is dropping. and with these young players we are on the verge of going on the clubs longest run without a win under wenger. im being serious guys, its looking bad.

im normally nervous ahead of big games like on sat, i aint even nervous this time, i expect us to get beat, and beaten well.
