Arsenal will rise from the ashes..............

Arsene Wenger is facing the toughest spell of his Arsenal career but I don't doubt his capabilities to guide us through this rough patch.

Things are looking bleak for Arsenal at the moment so in theory things can only get better - and they will.

I'm worried about the direction that Arsenal seem to be heading, that is a fact I can't deny, but we are in the safest hands possible with Arsene Wenger in charge.

It's difficult at the moment and we Gooners don't have much to cheer about, especially with Cesc Fabregas ruled out for so long, but the club has been through worse times than this.

The season can still be saved. I'm not saying we can win the league but fourth place has to be the target, and I still believe the Champions League trophy is destined for the Emirates.

I admit after last season's near-miss fourth place is a step backwards but it's vital to reach the Champions League next season for so many reasons. Especially finanically.

To do this Wenger needs to dip into the transfer market - and I think he will.

The injury to Fabregas will force his arm into entering the market and it's a shame its taken an injury to do so.

We needed to buy before Fabregas was injured, even more so now. A couple of new signings will be a breathe of fresh air around the club and will give everyone a lift, propelling Arsenal's second half of the season.

It seems all doom and gloom at the moment and I must admit, yesterday I felt very pissed off about things but I can see light at the end of the tunnel.

We Gooners need to stick together and unite. We will get through this. Lets create a mentality of "us against the world".

Keep it Goonerish.............

Nice and to-the-point today wrighty. I agree that he will dip into the market with Elano and N'zogbia the two players most likely to join.

My HOPE is that we pick up Inler from Udinese, but that looks like a long shot at best, since it was only this summer that he snubbed the Emirates to stay.

Any other insight on who you think will be coming in or who you want to come in?

I have believed in Arsene since his first season and i still believe.A few new faces is just what we need but not just for the sake of silencing the doubters.Ive been a gooner since 89 and i will always love them, we have seen worse times but we have seen times beyond belief, we will see them again.I do worry that we have no real leaders, but as a team we can do anything.

Cesc is Genous,

I'd love Alonso to come and protect the back four and to replace Cesc during his injury I'd like Van Der Vaart.

No we wont.

Hello U-E-F-A cup! (u can sing it to the champions league tune if u like)

I really think if we can just get in maybe two players then we'll have the quality to make sure we finish in the top 4. I think Villa could lose some players (Madrid have already expressed interest in Ashley Young) and we will hopefully get some in and our quality will show through. It's a tough time but it's fucking Arsenal! We'll get it done.

ARTETA! Buy him. He is very good. Does not need to adapt to the league. Real player. Would be a perfect addition in short and long term and we are desperate for a right sided midfielder. Surely, a big move and champions league football would set him up to get into the spain side.

Wrighty, I would love to see Xabi come in too, but he is cup tied and Rafa sees that he is such a vital part of his squad.

I so wanted him to come in this summer, but now I can't see him coming in, especially not from the leaders and a chief rival.

Agree with post but I think what frustrates most Gooners is the fact that this team only needed a little re-inforcement and we would have been fine. But Wenger would not have it, he knew best, it was as if he had to prove this and didn't strengthen last Jan or in the summer and the implications of that are now there to see for all. I do blame him for this.

But we still have quality there and if some of the players grew some bollocks like they did in the 2nd half against Chelsea & Liverpool then we will be fine. Its just very frustrating when you look at this team now and how far they seem to have fallen.

I do really think we need to bring in quality rather than just another foreign name who does not know what Arsenal means to its fans. I personally would love to see a Bullard or Davies type who could really put it about for us. To give the team a gee up. Of course this is never likely to happen. But would be good for some of the big time charlies to be given a rocket.

We missed the boat on Alonso, we won't recover from that this jan. Look for one new addition at best. Wenger cant' get it done in the transfer market - as he said 'there are scouts everywhere' the cheap gems are long gone. Buy experience, that way at least you know what you're getting.

I fear we have missed the boat on Alonso too but Arteta is a good shout.

Premiership experience and a classy player.

Oh come on, its way too early to "target 4th place", we should target 1st.

I think that Jimmy Bullard is the answer. He can fill for Cesc and hold after he comes back. He runs box to box and is a great influence in the locker room and on the kids as well as not being cup tied. I saw the Boro game the past weekend and he was brilliat, much better than I thought after seeing him live.

my wish list (the realistic version)..
2 of the following--van der vaart, arteta or ribery..

van der vaart-out on the fringes at madrid. great playmaker, great goal scorer

arteta-experiened premier leage..can play wing or anywhere in the midfield. would work great with cesc on his return.

ribery- great winger, control, speed..just what we need..

if we get any one or 2 of these, we will have good experience and depth to our midfield attack and creativity..

we also need 1 good def mid..
inler, yaya, veloso-would all be great. one of them would add some good competition..if we money wouldnt be an issue, i would try to bring back Flamini, or try to sign a versatile Essien like player, hey why not Essien himself (:P)

Defender is also on tap for the summer time.. metzelder, metersacker, lescott, richards. any of those would be great..

so my wish list starting lineup in the new year would be (i would say close to realistic demands)....

ade (vela) van p(dudu)

nasri (rosicky) ribery(theo)

van der vaart (cesc)

Flamini or veloso(denilson/song)

clichy toure richards(DJ) sagna
Almunia

adding these sorts of players to our midfield would be great as they are all versatile midfielders.

ribery can play either wing, van der vaart can play anywhere in the midfield (besides Defmid), nasri is highly versatile along the mid like van der vaart., cesc can play almost anywhere too..that would give use players to rotate with, give us depth, experience

hey, we can all wish cant we??

i still think arsenal canwin the legue, all the team are going drop points and it very mush depends on what wenger does in the market,8 points isnot alot only 2.5 games that is nothing,we are defending alot better both song and delinson are getting better and better, the team just needs a bit of killer pace and better finishing,i know arsenal fans are saying the teamlacks leadership at times but i think fab is a leader by doing and he not been playing that well for while now,i think ramsy, diaby and delinson will do very well in a central role when given the chance, but with no theo, risicky there is hardly any width or pace. but rvpis getting into good form, ade will get back and edawrdo comming back in jan its not all doom and gloom

Nice post once again wrighty. And Merry Christmas to all you gooners out there.

To be honest, at the moment I can't see Alonso moving, and I doubt Inler will leave after committing to Udinese for "at least another season" only this summer gone. Flamini will be playing more games now Gattuso's out for the season so that's a no-go. Xavi from Barca could possibly be done, might cost us between £5m and £10m but he'll be worth it, he can do the versatile CM role perfectly. Diarra is now a big miss for us, his energy was amazing and I'm not surprised Real Madrid want him as their next "Galactico". We need a CDM with energy, Veloso has bucket loads, as does Blaise Matuidi but they are both relatively young. Scott Parker would be a great addition, so what he played for Chelsea (A little bit) but he's quality, he's got energy, a presence and he's bullish in the middle of the park. A leader as well. I could go on. Next possible transfer I would go for Elano on loan with a view. He's not liked by Hughes at City, and he can at least fill in for Cesc while he's out if we don't buy him at the end of the season. After that, there's this one geezer who played for Turkey at the Euro's. A defender, I think his nicknames "the bearkiller" I saw an article about him a while back, he was linked with us. Let me tell you, the man is a FUCKING BEAST! He would definitely sort out our defensive problems as he's about 6ft 4' tall. He can give us a real aerial presence both in our own box and our opposition's area. Failing that one, Christopher samba. Being Arsenal fans, we would've seen this bloke play on match of the day and he, once again is a beast as well.

Nice one Wrighty,
Gunner #1.

Mr Anon... said a Davies type. Someone who is not afraid to put it about, to make an opposition feel pain if necessary. We are all too predictable at the moment, and to be honest you can't even say we are playing quality football.

Most of you on here do make me laugh saying we are still in there chasing the league. Mathmatically it is possible yes, but are you lot completely deluded? Wake up. The players we have in this squad are weak. If someone offered 4th now I would take it. Make no mistake this team is in trouble.
