Have Arsenal put all their eggs into one basket?

The Andrei Arshavin saga drags on. The circumstances appear to change from one moment to the next. We've got him, we haven't got him. It appears never ending!

Despite this I'm starting to believe it's just a matter of time until terms are agreed and Arshavin is pictured holding up an Arsenal shirt.

I'm sure when that time comes most Gooners will be happy people! The transfer has taken a long time to be concluded and it has turned into a tedious process. It will be a relief when he is (hopefully) unveiled at the Emirates.

It seems to me that Arsenal's transfers, whether in or out, always take an age to be sorted out. I don't have the answer as to why this happens but it always seems to be the case.

With Arshavin's (hopefully) imminent arrival taking place, I've started to think about other potential Wenger targets. Having strained my brain, I can't think of any realistic possibilities.

This brings me to the title of today's blog; Have Arsenal put all their eggs into one basket?

I think we have. I believe the only recruitment(s) to the Arsenal squad this January rests on the shoulder's of Andrei Arshavin.

I'm sure nobody else is coming in because surely this could or would have happened during the time we have been chasing Arshavin?

If the Arshavin deal does collapse then I don't think there is a plan B. I think Wenger will shrug his shoulders and say that he tried. We can't deny that he tried but I would hope there was a back up plan if it goes tits up.

We saw in the summer that Wenger tried to sign Alonso on the very last day of the transfer window. He put all his eggs into that basket and was bitten on the arse.

I hope the same doesn't happen with the Arshavin deal. I'm sure that Arsenal have learnt their lesson from the summer and to be fair I think the move to sign Arshavin was made early in this transfer window. It's Zenit who are being difficult.

I do worry though that while we have just concentrated on securing the signature of Arshavin, other areas of the team need to be strengthened also. It appears that Wenger has identified that we need a creative player more than a defensive midfielder.

I happen to think we need someone to protect the back four. I doubt this will happen because I feel that it would have happened by now if it was going too.

Keep it Goonerish...........

Why did you waste your time writing this piece? All eggs in one basket indeed. Because we heard about Asharvin doesn't mean he is the only one that is talking with us. If you are a true Gooner you know Wenger never talks about his transfer (it was Zenith that chose to talk about Arshavin's case, though). Why are you guys so myopic?

Are gooners turning in to a constantly gloomy bunch of moaners? That is the question.
You assume the AA transfer will go ahead, then immediately look for another transfer to worry about.
We all know that the squad would benefit from more than one addition, but they dont grow on trees and you cant always get the right player when you want him.
Can we all try and be a bit more up beat without jumping straight from AKBism to 'I refuse to watch Arsenal if.......'

Hi doubt that we are going to lose Arshavin now, Zenit seem to have snookered themselves.

I am sure Wenger has other targets, but at the same time he needs to keep the confidence levels high in the current squad.

Anyone who says we dont have money, has been proven wrong by the offers AFC have rejected now for Toure, Eboue and Bendtner.

Yoour article about wenger v harry is spot on.

although i think in relation to the manure game, Arsene deservidly got a load from the press, i think he showed contempt for the competition and to the fans and club by essentially fielding a side so weak that it would not harm chances of the Prem or CL by losing any.

Sir alex of manure got a similar basting in the press a while ago for doiong the same in the FAcup by fielding a weak side which included an unknown footballer called david beckham.

as for why they pick on us and not that twat from down the road, thats simple we are Arsenal, Wenger is french, which sparks an immediate hatred from the old boys that run the press/media. We have 'too many' french players, adds fuel to the fire. and we are successful. The one thing the british media excel at is bringing down anyone who does well at anything, and seeing as the scum are shit whats the point wasting column space on them when you can bate arsenal all day long.

I say fcuk'em, coz they all come running when our kids destroy teams like they're not there, they all jump the bandwagon when a little know play like Henry become legend, the whole thing makes me enjoy being an Arsenal fna even more.

I don't understand how this article could be seen as gloomy.

It's pretty damn accurate in my book.

I think Wenger is playing a game, he don't wanna spend 15 mil on a 27 year old over rated one season wonder - but while this rumbles on it looks likehe's trying to get his man at all costs. It's bollox really and wenger is a cunt when it comes to getting players for the present, rather than the future

Wenger doesnt want to spend? or is the board and the fact that the economy is down and now more than ever you have to be wise?

Fact is we dont know whats going on and I think Wenger said the Arshavin want the only prospect but he has always said the player needs to be of grear quality.

Arsene always believes in his team and I for one am glad that he does (not so much about Eboue at least in the position he plays him).

Its official: Well kinda:

http://www.arsenalinsider.co.uk/?p=3247

Several sources are reporting that Zenit St Petersburg have finally moved to end this protracted transfer saga when it became clear yesterday that Manchester City were not interested in making an offer for the player.

The sources are indicating that the official offer of £15 million will be payable in instalments, and this now opens the door for the player to negotiate personal terms. The noise coming from the Arshavin camp is that he will accept a pay cut in order to come to the Gunners.

This is the first deal to be tied up by the new Ivan Gazidis/Wenger partnership

ERRATUM:

THE PLAYER WILL NOT BE ELIGIBLE FOR THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE

i dont believe is about putting all eggs on one basket s its about getting quality players in the team,i feel quality of the team is there,we have not lost a game since man city, delinson getting better so is diaby,i feel wenger is very picky about who brings into the team. i also heard today that zenit have rejected arsenals offer which i dought is true,i dought any club is willing syump up that kind of money the club have generated this in public to get better offers but the concequences for them not finding willing meatthere demands are very high they run the risk of losing around 15 mill and i dought they are willing risk that
