We need this man back.....MARTIN KEOWN....

It was a fantastic result yesterday. We played some brilliant football and even some Spuds I know were forced to admit that Arsenal are looking good.

I couldn't resist telling them though that Spurs are the STRONGEST team in the league by far. After all, they are holding up 19 other clubs!!!

Something played on my mind despite another superb performance by Arsenal. It's our organisation at set-pieces and defending in general.

We are prone to sloppy defending at set-pieces. We have conceded only THREE goals this season in competitive action. But all have come from set-pieces.

Granted, one was a penalty but the other two goals we've conceded have come from corners. We have improved slightly in our open play defending but from set-pieces we are still vulnerable.

This does worry me. Sides like Chelsea will be aware of this and will attack Arsenal from this area. We seem to struggle to defend corners and free-kicks and this needs improving.

I've heard that Le Boss doesn't empathise a lot of work on defensive routine in training. Whether this is true or not I don't know. I do know that Wenger puts a lot of attention to detail in his preparation for games, but for me defending is something we can improve on, a lot.

A couple of years ago Le Boss brought Martin Keown in help with this situation. For me, Keown is absolutely perfect for this role. He has respect and the know-how to improve this side of Arsenal.

The man knows the club and is a person that Le Boss can relate too and trust in the role. He achieved great things at Arsenal and nobody could argue the fact he knows what he is doing.

Martin Keown is an Arsenal hero and would probably jump at the chance of working with such a talented group of players.

I reckon that we need Martin Keown back and that he would help improve the way we defend by ten-fold. Bring him back as a defensive coach Arsene!

Keep it Goonerish..............

We need a dominant centre-half!
Toure and Gallas can't head the ball. They are useless in the air. Davies won every ball against Toure. Senderos was the only player we had who was good in the air - but lacked other abilities.
They myth about Gallas being this world class CB is exposed every week. He is very average and slow.

I wonder what he is doing nowadays...

Totally agree with the article.

Wasn't he our defensive coach during the 2006 Champions league run?

I totally agree with you that we do concede a few set-pieces and we would get found out by the big teams like Utd, Liverpool and Chelsea?

What are we going to do when we come across Stoke city who rely on long balls. All their 11 players are 6 feet or more tall. We'd be in trouble their.

The one guy i do believe we need to bring back is Tony Adams, he has been fantastic at Pompey and i do think he'll be great for our defence, we have to exclude the ass whopping got today (that was a one off)

Keown is part of the coaching set up at Arsenal.

Keown WAS part of our defensive coach set-up in 2006, when we got to Paris... but left the summer after!

I belive he's currently trying to get his UEFA Pro Badges, so he can go into management!
I'd love to see him come back to the club and pick up his old role... but the chances of it, are slim to none! :(

I know Steve Bould is working with the kids... Maybe we should look into getting him into Keown's old role! Just a thought!

Martin Keown is a very capable defender and a tall chap too. I vividly remembering him soldiering on with a game despited a bloodied bandaged head. We need his like on bravery and determination.

Strange, everytime we concede a goal from set pieces it looks like the end of the world. Comments like we are hopeless, vulnerable etc etc. Yesterday's game between MU and Chelsea, Mu which supposedly is excellent in the air was found out in a set piece; very poor defending. Does anyone or tabloids goes all out to condemn their defense. NO. Because their manager beats them to it. Kind of like criticise yourself, before others had the opportunity to stick it to you and affects your confidence.

No point bringing Keown back when we have no established players to put what he teaches them into practice. Drop Gallas and bring in Djourou and then you might have a case, but until then it will be pointless. Its no coincidence that Senderos' peak with Arsenal was the run-in to the CL final, when Keown was working with the squad.

True,Keown brought the best out in Senderos but it was in the CL that Phil was so good. He wasn't that good in the prem and against faster teams. Although i am a fan of Phil i don't think he is good enough to handle the fast pace of the prem, hence why he went to Italy.(known for their slow play)

But we should bring Keown in anyway. If he doesn't make anyone a better defender he is defo sure to make them a bit harder. Gallas is a pussy when defending.

We have a lot of big players but none of them are very aggressive.

Why dont Wenger shut his mouth Is he scared City might do in a year what has took Arsenal 10?

He is trembling in his boots of the thought of losing a champions league spot to little old city or should I say Richest club in the world City.

Scared of City? ha ha ha ha ha...

You having a fucking laugh, little boy?
Listen, I've always respected City! A proper Manchester Club, with proper fans... so don't go giving it the bigg'un, just because your old club (Chelsea) are not top dogs any more, ya mug?

As for City doing what Wenger has done in 10 years?
3 League Titles?
4 F.A. Cups?
First team in over 100 years to go a season unbeaten?
The only self sufcient top club, left in the league?
The 3rd most sucessful team in the land?

YOU WISH YOU COULD BE LIKE US, LITTLE BOY!
