Are us Gooners deluded? Why do we have to suffer every summer?

It seems to me that every year we go through the same shit.

Without fail, every summer, we have to endure a miserable time of seeing a player quit Arsenal or a huge rumour about a player leaving.

Flamini has already gone, and with the speculation growing again over Hleb's departure we are being put through the wringer again.

Why us AGAIN?

Why do us Gooners have to be shit scared about the uncertainty of one of our players?

It never seems to be a squad player, oh no, it has to be a main player about to go.

And it's always about money.

But I thought Arsenal had plenty of that, the board don't stop going on about how much we are raking it in now we've moved to the Emirates.

Or is it that Arsenal and us Gooners are deluding ourselves?

Are we really not as big as we think?

We don't have the history of clubs such as Milan, Madrid, Barcelona etc....

But we do have one of the best managers in the world, a super stadium, great fans and a up and coming squad ready to devastate Europe.

Surely thats enough?

Clearly not in some cases.

I don't know why every year we suffer but I'm fed up with it and can't wait for some good news.

Keep it Goonerish..........

I think its easy to get paranoid into thinking that its only us Gooners that go through this every summer, even though we do! We shud remember ManUre have it as well with Ronaldo, chel$ki with lampard, liverpool in previous years with gerrard. It just comes with the turf of supporting a big team that some of your players will invariably be linked with other top clubs

When in recent seasons we lost players like Henry, Pires, Bergkamp(retirement), Vieira and others, losing Flamini, Hleb and Adebayor pale into insignificance.

There's a few currently at Arsenal I wouldn't want to lose but none of them have been seriously linked to other clubs the ones that have, can in my opinion go. I'd rather have players who want to commit themselves and hopefully be a part of the next succesful Arsenal team.

I think we get much more than the others.
We always get it worse.
Think theres a hate towards to Arsenal from the media and they want to unsettle Arsenal players.

Cos Wenger is a shit manager of men... Yes he can do the sfuff on the field (sometimes) but he cant manage people for shit. Dont get this at Man U or other big clubs, they all know that Arsene is a pussy and all the players can have there heads turned cos Arsene will let them go as soon as they want to. Evidence Viera, Henry, Overmars, Petit, Anelka, Diarra and more.... AND yes I am a gooner too and Wenger is the weak link here!

It's not just about money (although also significant). It's as you say that we don't have as big a profile or history as some clubs. To be honest it's most kids dreams to play for Barcelona, Milan, Real Madrid (and for the deluded few, Liverpool). It's seriously unlikely that we'll ever be in that situation so we'll just have to live with it i'm afraid. The fact that a lot of players find the dream of those clubs more appealing than the reality is a small concilation i suppose.

Anonymous 19:37, I'm afraid although you think you are, in fact you are not a gooner. No true gooner would be as spineless as you.

it is about money, but we do have a manager who can replace anyone that wants to leave so i am not bothered.
im more interested about who is coming in rather than who is leaving. we are very close to being right up there winning things again. as far as history goes, chelsea didnt exist in 2001 and they bought shevshenko in 2006, its all about the here and now, players want to make money and win things. that comes foremost, i have faith in wenger, im sure great things are around the corner.

Who is scared? Why are you scared?

Perhaps it's the proliferation of blogs on newsnow all chasing the same tiny scrap of real news that whip up weaker-minded people into a frenzy.

It's not even June yet. For the love of God people, relax!

I think some of you are missing the point here. Wrighty you are spot on and it has been something I have been wrestling with in my mind. We are a huge club, (financially) one of the greatest. I look at ManU and they are in serious debt, but their business mentality is to buy there way out of trouble. I'm not saying I agree with it, but the board know that if they didn't Alex Ferguson would piss off, and they would be fucked. Wenger (as much as i love him). I don't think he has the guts to stand up to the board like Sir-Wanker. So what does this mean? Short term, very bleak. All I can say is, thank god we have Wenger to see us through these times. BUT, in two-three years we will be the swinging dicks of World football....And Man U? Well, I think they will crumble when that Scottish bastard leaves, financially they will be done for. One other thing, the reason why our players leave is because we buy them young. Players that have been to a few clubs before they come to Arsenal FC can settle down, they have seen the rest now they want the best. When they are young and don't know any better, what do you expect from them? They believe they can play the same football anywhere they go. For them it's about experience.

i think personally wenger should consider his position. i know he has done for us is great but is traditions in the past 3 years have got us no silverware. what is it with him get the deals done for these talented PROVEN players and stop letting them go to our rivals

We DO have a massive amount of money. What we don't have is a massive amount of debt. Football fans (myself included) all want to win immediately, but from a business perspective, it makes sense to keep the war-chest in tact.

If we can continue to pay down our debt like we are now then the cash-flows are going to be massively positive in 5-6 years, giving us massive revenues that are available for use in the transfer market.

Chelsea and Manure are heavy into deficit spending. Soon, they're going to be forced to spend potential transfer money servicing ever-growing debt.

The business side is going well for Arsenal. We also have the competitive advantage of a great youth system that helps create players and therefore profit. The model's working well. It'll take a few more years to pay off the new stadium, but once that's accomplished we will be able to flex some newfound muscle in the transfer market.

The strategy is to use the stadium to eventually finance players. This is a long-term strategy though. It's going to take a few years to recognize the business return, but it will be recognized!

and replace him with who?

what a stupid comment to make, lets sack wenger because he havent won anything for three years.

dont i remember times in the early 90s where we were finishing in the bottom half of the table and getting beat in the FA cup by some 4th devision side.

and some of you think its rough now :X

i believ that if we do not buy 3-4 decent players, and keep our current squad save gilberto.

Also our wage structure has to change..............

otherwise expect another trophyless season next year.....

come on dein/usmanov

Wrighty7 the truth is that we're just not as big as some think we are, you do touch on this. Winless for so long doesn't help either. It's the clubs fault, show some ambition, you said it, every off season we lose a valued player.

Your right to pose this ? Man utd won the league last season and go out and spend another 40+ million on players. Tells you all you need to know really!

We need to get back to reality.
We ARE NOT a big club, never have been. We have always been a selling club and always will be.
Sack Wenger.

Regretfully fans like Sammy are hard to come by, but he´s spot on in his assessment of our financial situation. I believe we have the only manager in world football who can make this club survive during this difficult time. He´s been able to keep us in the top 4 without spending any money above players sales for the last 4 seasons and still we improve every year.

This season has seen Arsenal become a true challenger for the PL title but people go on as though we´re shit.

The difference between the top clubs in England are miniscule and we could well have won the league so please don´t write off this team and especially AW.

I support the board´s reluctance to go beyond our means for short-term success.

If we are able to win the league this way it will be much sweeter than paying ridiculous amount of money and be forced to win in order to not go bankrupt.

Keep the faith and perspective feelow Gooners.

"We don't have the history of clubs such as Milan, Madrid, Barcelona"

Of course they don't. However, Arsenal was founded in 1886, compared to 1899 for both Barca and AC and 1902 for Real. Whippersnapper !

i feel wenger is doing exacly the wright thing fracly i think its compliment that are top players are wanted by likes of real madrid. yes its important to win titles but you need to respect the clubs pay structure. we dont have a large owner with unlimited amounts of money and evon if we did wenger will never spend 30-40 million one player.i feel the ability to spot talent and groom them into world class players is mush better and more cost efffective. as flamini he left because he wanted over 100,000 a week and there no way he was that good yes he played wellthis season but you dont drive club bust for one or wto players.wenger is thinking over long term not year by year like what chelsea and liverpool do. where will most chelsea players be in two years and if there owner left and that to go back to old ownership structure how would be able to for there wages

Whippersnapper??!!!

cant believe some people are questioning wenger, saying he should go,,,, thats disgusting. i will never come on here again.
bunch of retards.

Anonymous said...

It should be 'Are we Gonners deluded', not 'us'.

And as far as I can see players hardly ever leave unless Wenger either gets a good deal (Anelka), replaceable (Flamini)or both (Viera and Henry when past their peak)

Wrighty7 said...

Hey anon 21:54,

I've never said Wenger should go. Dont blame me for the "retards" as you put it so nicely, comments.

Guys , I have a good rumour!!!
I have heard a whisper that there is a deal being put together between Hleb and Robinho, from a source that gave me Sol Campbell all those years ago, says its 50:50 possibility at the moment, its a part swap with us giving 6m

Wrighty7 said...

I see Gooners as "us" as one

Wrighty7 said...

Not a bad rumour!!!

Anonymous said...

Truth is that Real want Hleb so badly they will give up Robinho, it kinda makes sense that RM have asked after Hleb and Robinho's agent was spotted at the training ground earlier

Anonymous said...

robinho is too lightweight for epl, hleb is much better, i wish we could keep him, if he wants to leave, then robinho wouldnt be my choice to replace him.

Anonymous said...

Wot!! More Lightweight that Hleb? R U Joking?

TrueGooner say....
All i can say is thank God for Arsene Wenger. We are one of the best teams in Europe beating teams that Manu can not even beat. Honestly football among the top teams is more about luck these days. Who would have thought Barca with all the old head and experience wouldn't put up a fight for La liga, or get beaten in the CL by Manu who the clearly dominated. Chealsea could have won last night but luck wasn't there. Who did chelsea play to reach to the final? most of the crucial loss that we suffered we dominated those games. The whole establish power is against us, people want to put quota on us because they are afraid of what is happenning or about to happen at the groove. We get blame for a country national team not qualifying, and you say AW is weak? Can you take all what he is going through? As for me I truely appreciate him. Well done Sir. Wenger, Well done and May God richly bless you and Arsenal football club.

We are the 3rd richest club in the world. and have the most expesive tickets in the world, yet we can't afford to pay our players the going rate. Its not good enough.
I've heard good things about Nasri but is he world class? not at the mo. we need some world class players at this club if we want to win things, ask cesc he wants david villa...If we don't make some big signings or win something soon the cesc will be of, followed shortly by the boss.

I WONDER IF PEOPLE WATCH WITH THIER EYES CLOSED SOMETIMES. WE WERE 4 POINTS BEHIND MAN U WHO SPENT OVER DOUBLE OF WHAT WE SPENT ON PLAYERS AND YET YOU SAID THE TEAM LACKS EXPERIENCE. WE HAD THREE KEY PLAYERS GONE FOR ANC WHEN MAN U DINT HAVE AND SINCE THEY GOT BACK THEY HAVE BEEN HESUSTED AND DINT PICK BACK TILL THE END OF THE SEASON{TOURE}.MOST OF OUR PLAYERS HAVE PLAYED IN THE FINAL OF THE UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE 2 SEASONS AGO SO BY NOW THEY HAVE GATHERED ENOUGH EXPERIENCE SO THE QUESTION OF IN EXPERIENCE IS NOT TRUE. WHY WE LOST LAST SEASON IS DUE TO TWO REASONS. ONE IS BECAUSE OF INJURY TO VAN P, ROSICKY, DIABY AND THE WORST OF IT EDUADOR. IF ONLY HE WAS NOT INJURED I AM DAMM SURE WE WOULD HAVE WON THE PREM. BUT HIS INJURY AFFECTED THE WHOLE TEAM BOTH PHYSICALLY AND MENTALLY AND IT WAS SO HARD FOR THEM TO GET OVER IT. SECONDLY WE DINT HAVE ENOUGH GOOD QUALITIES ON THE BENCH AND THAT WAS WHERE WE GOT FINISHED. AGAINST MAN U WE WERE LEADING AND FROM THIER SUB WE LOST IT AGAINST CHELSEA TOO THE SAME THING BECUS WE DONT HAVE THE QUALITIES TO MATCH THIER BENCH. NOW I TRUST WENGER AND PRAY HE BRINGS IN NASRI AND CHANTOME AND MAY BE BEN ARFA OR DAVID VILLA. RIGHT NOW IN THE SQUAD WE HAVE AN EMPTY SPACE WHICH IS WHERE FLAMINI LEFT AND FOR ME I BELIEVE CHANTOME CAN DO IT WELL OR EVEN SONG OR GILBERTO OR DIABY BECAUSE THAT IS DIABY NATURAL ROLE. REMEMBER THEN HE WAS CALLED THE NEW VIERA. NOW IF HE BRINGS IN BEN ARFA TOO THIS ARE GOOD QUALITIES THAT CAN SIT ON THE BENCH AND MAKE A VERY GOOD AND MEANING FULL SUBS. IF HE GOES FOR EXPERIENCE AND EXTABLISHED PLAYERS THAT WILL NOT WANT TO SIT ON THE BENCH THEN IT MEANS HE HAS TO REST ONE OR TWO OF THE PRESENT SQUAD AND MEANS HE WILL START THE BUILD UP AGAIN. LETS PRAY FOR LUCK THIS SEASON CUS ITS ONE OF THOSE THINGS THAT WENT AGAINST US LAST SEASON AND PRAY FOR GOOD AND BETTER OFFICIATING CUS IT KILLED UR SEVERAL TIME AND EXPERCIALLY IN THE CHM LEAGUE.PLEASE ENGLISH MEN DON PUT TRIBALISM INTO THIS BECAUSE ENGLISH PLAYER ARE ALWAYS MORE EXPENSIVE, LESSER SKILLS AND OVER HIPPED AND WENGER SAID HE HAS 6 OF THEM GOOD TALENTS IN HIS ACADEMY THAT WILL MAKE THE TEAM IN THE NEXT 5 YEARS TO COME SO BE PATIENT.ILLUSION, FLAMINI IS NOT ONE OF OUR BEST. GILBERTO HAD EMOTIONAL PROBLEMS AFTER COLLECTING THE CB FROM HIM AND THATS WHY HE LOOKS LIKE HE WAS FINISHED BUT BET HE CAN FILL IN THAT SHOE WELL EXPERCIALLY TO THOSE SHOUTING EXPERIENCE. IN WENGER I BELIEVE
